Sage...even though most people and objects state 'US'....the actual country competing in the games is USA. Just look at the official Olympics website and the Medals Table....USA - No.1 !!

Just noticed the debate over Sagie baby's entry, and as a native, I have to say that US and USA are often used interchangeably, and more often than not US is used without the "A" - I think we're picking too small a nit here, or splitting a hair that needn't be. Many formal titles omit the "of America" - US Supreme Court, US House of Representatives, US Senate, US Hockey Team, US currency.
I don't think he's remotely wrong.

Sypher... I figured my Tuesday entry would be invalid... was worth a try tho... didn't have any time to hunt down an entry...
I make no excuses and take my 0 points with no complaints.

As for your ruling that those who missed on Monday may play Saturday, I'd just like to let you know that I probably shouldn't be
given this generous offer because I was out to dinner with hubby and had forgotten all about posting. I didn't even know the forums were closed! Your call tho... I'm just being honest.

Valerie

Ok..here goes...

Our story begins at the Olympics, specifically the wrestling event.

It is narrowed down to the Russian or the American for the gold medal.

Before the final match, the American
wrestler's trainer comes to him and says,
..."Now don't forget all the research we've done on this Russian. He's never lost a match because of this "pretzel" hold he has. Whatever you do, don't let him get you in this hold! If he does, you're finished!"

The wrestler nods in agreement.

Now, to the match: The American and the Russian circle each other several times looking for an opening. All of a sudden the Russian lunges forward, grabbing the American and wrapping him up in the dreaded pretzel hold.

A sigh of disappointment goes up from the crowd, and the trainer buries his face in his hands for he knows all is lost. He can't watch the ending.

Suddenly there's a scream, a cheer from the crowd, and the trainer raises his eye just in time to see the Russian flying up in the air. The Russian's back hits the mat with a thud, and the American weakly collapses on top of him, getting the pin and winning the match.

The trainer is astounded! When he finally gets the American wrestler alone, he asks,
..."How did you ever get out of that hold? No one has ever done it before!"

The wrestler answers, "Well, I was ready to give up when he got me in that hold, but at the last moment, I opened my eyes and saw this pair of 'dangling participles' right in front of my face. I thought I had nothing to lose, so with my last ounce of strength I stretched out my neck and bit those babies just as hard as I could.

"You'd be amazed how strong you get when you bite your own 'dangling participles'!"

Just one more.....

Three guys are trying to sneak into the Olympic Village in Sydney to scoop souvenirs and autographs.

The first says, "Let's watch the registration table to see if there's a crack in the security system that we can utilize to scam our way in."

Immediately, a burly athlete walks up to the table and states,
...."Angus MacPherson. Scotland. Shotput."

He opens his gym bag to display a shotput to the registration attendant.

The attendant says, "Very good, Mr. MacPherson. Here is you packet of registration materials, complete with hotel keys, passes to all Olympic events, meal tickets, and other information."

HOT DOG! The first guy grabs a small tree sapling, strips off the limbs and roots, walks up the registration table and states:
....."Chuck Wagon. Canada.
Javelin."

The attendant says, "Very good, Mr. Wagon. Here is you packet of registration materials, hotel keys, passes, meal tickets, and so forth. Good luck!"

The second guy grabs a street utility manhole cover, walks up the registration table and states:
...."Dusty Rhodes. Australia. Discus."

The attendant says, "Terrific, Mr. Rhodes. Here is you packet of registration materials, hotel keys, a full set of passes, and meal tickets. Enjoy yourself."

They scamper in, but suddenly realize the third guy is missing.

They groan - OH NO. He's a simpleton from the hills of Vermont. They forgot to make sure he doesn't do something stupid and blow their cover stories.

They spot him walking with a roll of barbed wire under his arm. He walks up the registration table and states: ....."Foster Bean. Hardwick, Vermont. Fencing."
