My niece gave me a plant, so I planted it! Turns out to be a guava of some kind, very pleasant to graze upon one or two as I pass by.

My favourite fruit - especially when fermented.

Here we have bananas from Costa Rica. I think they are only decorative bananas -- not the ones we eat.

With or without (my personal preference) a frame, it's a great pic of prickly pear cactus Leo. Did you know we can grow them (outside as a perennial) here in Alberta? They're quite good to eat, but much better made into jelly.

The Prickly Pear became a serious environmental weed in Australia in the early 20th Century. The Cactoblastis Moth was introduced to save the day.





My little cumquat tree had its first good crop this year. My brother bore a basketful away, muttering "Mmmmm...Brandied Cumquats!"
The remainder are destined for Cumquat Marmalade.

Lovely I usually get enough on my trees to make some marmalade. When does the fruit ripen Auntie? Our season is around CNY about March .

Ren, my cumquats also started ripening in March (Autumn). It's now midwinter and they should have developed as much juice as they are going to. Time to drag out the jam pan.

Auntie: I'm sure, given your growing climate, that pretty much most things that grow on the planet could be considered a "weed" where you are. However, in my part of world, there are only 100 or so plants classified as "noxious" that actually manage to survive our winters. Believe me, prickly pear cactus is a BIG deal in these here parts lol. I envy you : )

This is one (of millions) of plants that will not survive as a perennial here. I "winter" mine inside the house. Am always amazed at how "valiant" some of them are lol


Artichokes

I took some pics of my sister's pear tree today, but the fruit was puny and my camera is still being annoying, so I decided on a photo taken awhile ago of some "apples and pears" (The musicians are a bonus!)
