33. What football club in England has the following Eccelestical record to show amongst their claims to fame ... Only team in the history of the game to go scoreless through an entire pope's reign? 13-Nov-00 9:19pm

according to some sources the reign of Pope John Paul I was for 33 days from Sat 26-Aug-1978, when white smoke came from the Sisteine Chapel at the Vatican, to Thu 28-Sep-1978 .. but other sources give it as a reign lasting 34 days (which doesn't add up unless you double count the day he was elected) .. during that period of time of 34 days from 26-Aug to 28-Sep both days inclusive every one of the 92 football league club in England scored a goal so the answer is no football club failed to score a goal .. but the clubs which came closest are .. depending on the time the Pope was elected on that Saturday and/or whether the question is addressing league games only:-

if the question is addressing football league games only then .. Orient who won 3-0 at home to Sunderland on Tue 22-Aug-1978 and did not score again in any of their Division 2 matches until Fri 06-Oct-1978 when they won 2-0 at Charlton Atheletic but in between those days they scored a goal on Mon 28-Aug-1978 when they lost at home 1-2 to Chesterfield in the 2nd Round of the League Cup

if Pope John Paul I was elected during the evening of Sat 26-Aug-1978, which could be the case as some sources say he was proclaimed in "the very same hour of the inaugural Mass" then maybe, even after allowing for any time difference between England and Italy, then .. Halifax Town who scored a goal on the afternoon* of 26-Aug (when they lost 1-2 at home to Grimsby Town), and did not score again in any of their Division 4 games until Sat 07-Oct-1978 when they drew 1-1 away to Rochdale (they did not play in the 2nd Round of the League Cup as they had been eliminated on Tue 15-Aug-1978)

* their goal was scored in the first half which means it was probably scored between the usual 3pm kick-off and the half time break around 3.45pm

if this is on the wrong track and I've gone off at a tangent then shoot me, please

Q39. In the hobby of radio DXing what do the terms DX and QSL mean?

DX: Any station that is hard to hear or contact on a particular frequency, or is rarely heard or contacted on a particular frequency. "DX" is the old telegraph abbreviation for "distant."

QSL: Radiotelegraph abbreviation for "I confirm," it refers to a card or letter confirming that a contact did take place between two stations or that a listener did indeed hear a certain station.

new Q51 These days it is customary for the ballot for U.S. President to show the names of the candidates, with the words "electors for" before the name, so that a voter must vote for an entire slate of electors.
