for a "success" rate of 20.3%...is it one of the worst ever showing as a group in any FT tipping comp? Dave or gtho4 should chime in here  I don't think it is the absolute worst, but is near the bottom overall. FLC has had a few in the low 20's, and A-League's success rates are not the best, so will take a look at those two. Edit to add: these are the ones I found with a strike rate below 21%: 2008-09 A-League wk 16: 06.67%2008-09 A-League wk 08: 12.50% 2006-07 A-League wk 19: 13.63% 2008-09 A-League wk 10: 13.89% 2009-10 A-League wk 14: 15.56% 2007-08 A-League wk 01: 15.69% 2011 Copa America wk 05: 16.67% 2007-08 A-League wk 04: 17.31% 2010-11 A-League wk 01: 17.78% 2010-11 A-League wk 02: 17.78% 2009-10 A-League wk 06: 18.00% 2011 Copa America wk 02: 20.31%2010-11 FLC wk 16: 20.51% 2007-08 FLC wk 01: 20.83% 2007-08 A-League wk 14: 20.83% 2007-08 A-League wk 15: 20.83% No, that first one is not a mistake! That particular week saw two people earn one point each and the rest were zero. This one didn't even crack the top ten, although if you throw the A-League out (which are now nine of the top ten), it was #1, until week 5's showing at 16.67%. editing in week 5's pitiful result

Phew! that was a much better round than the one before We seem to be finally getting the hang of this tournament just as the league stage is finishing The "big" teams are finally beginning to win... Colombia and Argentina have booked their places in the quarterfinals and Venezuela is a surprise inclusion there. The rest of the slots will be finalized in a couple of days... rxbigdawg picked up a very impressive 3/4 and added a sole point bonus (along with triviapaul for the Brazil-Paraguay draw) and has jumped right to the top, just a point off the leader, dg_dave. Dave himself picked up a second bonus point along with ozzz2002 and will be fancying his chances now... Howie72 and LeoDaVinci both slipped in this round and picked up spoons, sharing them with toocool4u and our new cellar dweller, rossian Here's hoping the next round will bring us all a lot more points...and please remember, you will have a really short turn around time to come and lodge your tips for the knock-out rounds....please ensure you are there |

The league phase of Copa America 2011 is over and as we enter the knock-out stage, things sure are beginning to heat up over here. Brazil and Argentina both won their final matches as did Uruguay, Paraguay remained unbeaten, but have not won any match either. Chile and Colombia will fancy their chances too after topping their groups, while I guess Venezuela will be more than happy to be in the last 8! Makes for some interesting matches to come... Over here George95 threw his hat into the ring of contenders with a perfect round (unfortunately for him, no bonus points in this comp for perfect scores  ) toocool4u also joined him in achieving this feat. dg_dave slipped for the first time in this comp, and that allowed paper_aero and Howie72 to clamber up and it sure looks pretty crowded at the top at the moment  Things will hopefully clear up over the next 2 rounds... Rossian felt it was too dark in the cellar, and gtho4 valiantly offered to take her place there The quarterfinal matches thread has been updated, so don't forget to lodge your tips before the first match on Saturday... Here's hoping we won't have to resort to all sorts of tie-breaks to decide on final placings (see the first post of this if you are unsure about that)... |

This has SURELY got to be the worst tipping comp ever held here at Funtrivia    Or maybe this is the most unpredictable, worst and most stupid tournament ever played on a field Maybe it's better I stop commenting on how we are faring as a group (think we have guaranteed ourselves immortality with a 16.6% correct tips in this round  ) Please remember we are taking into account scores at the end of regular (90+any added time) time here. dg_dave had tipped Peru to beat Colombia...they did...after extra time. Score after regular time was 0-0, picked correctly by rossian and Sypher and earning them both bonus points. Had Dave's tips stood, he would have been a point clear at the top, instead of clambering for positions now with 5 others! 6 of us managed to get the regular time score of Argentina-Uruguay (Yayy!!) while not one of us managed the Brazil scoreline...none of us tipped a draw or even an upset win for Paraguay....the second time this tournament we managed this feat with Brazil   Only one quarterfinal ended in a result in regular time and both BxBarracuda and ozzz2002 picked that, vaulting them into the HoF for the round and a possible jostling for podium finish....7 people are within 1 point of the top and another 3 are a further point behind (2 behind the leader), so realistically, at least 10 of us are still in with a chance to finish on the podium in this horrible tournament (an organiser's nightmare  ) Not one of us has a live pick for the finals, so we can all breathe easy for losing those extra 3 or 1 point and focus only on the 3 remaining points for the final round Not much time to lodge tips for the semifinals, so please do try and get in there before the first semifinal kicks off in this crazy tournament. triviapaul had missed the last round and I just hope noone will miss the next round because of lack of time |

far out, Brazil missed four penalties and Venezuela made it to the semis for the first time in their history. Our tipping may be woeful, but I don't think it's our worst. We had a March Madness comp a while back where no-one picked the Final Four .. no one picked any of the four quarter-final winners, the two semi-final winners, or the tournament winner!

We are at 115/348, or 33.05% success rate...not great, but certainly not the worst! If you look at the strike rates above that I posted, you'll see that one week we didn't even break 10%! There were two correct tips out of 30 that week, or 6.7%. Outside of A-League, there has been only one other time (and that was this past week!) where the group did not hit 20%.

Hmmmmm...so most people DO read the write ups Thanks, guys tie-break rules listed in very first post of this thread: 1. Hof-Spoon differential 2. No. of HoFs (unfortunately, this seems to mean if you are consistent and don't end up with any HoFs or spoons (0-0), you will finish lower than somebody who wins 1 HoF and 1 spoon ) 3. If still equal, Person winning more bonus points will be placed higher...(I know this is a little different from what I had listed in the original thread, but gtho4 felt bonus points should be duly rewarded) Hopefully things won't get complicated in the last 2 rounds

The semifinals turned out to be a lot better than the quarterfinals for us over here 35 right tips out of a possible 54 (Leo's tips for only counted for the second match) means, as a group we had our best round to date in this comp! Yayy!! Uruguay beat Peru 2-0 in regular time and are one step away from a record 15th title in the Copa America. Facing them in the finals would be Paraguay, who are yet to win a match in this year's tournament ! Yes, Paraguay drew all 3 league matches, drew their quarterfinals against Brazil and won only in penalties, and managed the same feat against Venezuela too now! How much more incredible can that get In the meanwhile gtho4 stepped in and pointed out that I had missed awarding 2 bonus points to George95 and toocool4u for perfect picks in round 4 and I also missed awarding HoFs for round 1 to 3 people (srini701, paper_aero and LeoDaVinci)...My sincere apologies and all duly corrected now....this table now is right in all resepcts The changes meant srini701 finds himself in podium position, following a perfect round now. BxBarracuda also had a perfect round there, and that means he's a point clear at the top now! I have added 2 extra points for the final round and it all promises to be a very close and tight sprint to the finish now....Make sure you are there and lodge your tips before Saturday! |
