NUTS

According to most documentation, the First Thanksgiving would have included 3 or 4 varieties of nuts that were available at the time.

SALT was (and still is) an important spice in preparing most Thanksgiving dishes.

Posting a bit early, since I'm partying tonight , but as no one's been posting between now and my own slot I don't think it qualifies as an Urgent Time Announcement.

TRAPS

Traps were used in order to catch the animals required for the first ever Thanksgiving in 1621.

OKRA
Okra was among the vegetables Squanto taught the new settlers to raise, after so many of them had died during their first hard winter. After ****, which was of course a staple for the Indians and unheard of to the settlers, this was one of several they could add to their diets.
Also eaten now - fried and (my favorite!) pickled!

Hey, where did my O go?!?!? Now I've got an A?

I guess I'll use Ale.

The Pilgrims loved their beer and ale.

ELM

The *********s lived in round-roofed houses called wigwams. These were made of poles covered with flat sheets of elm or ***** bark. Their knowledge of constructing solid living quarters was of great help to the Pilgrims. The Indians used the Elm as a council tree, and many treaties with the early settlers were made beneath its branches.

"AMEN": The Pilgrims were very pious, and would have ended their grace and begun their meal with this word.

NUTMEG

Spice used at First Thanksgiving 1621....

"While we tend to think of English food as bland, that first Thanksgiving meal was probably spicier that we think.

The pilgrims used a variety of spices, including cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pepper and dried fruit to make sauces for meats. However, the sauces probably didn't always taste the same as pilgrims didn't measure ingredients, but instead improvised."

Last day. Too soon to call. There have been some questions about words that weren't halved. Basically it's because they were too general. Yes there were "nuts" at the first TG meal, but there are quite a few kinds. Will explain more later in "Snake Talk".

Here are the results so far:

Baglady...................1.5 = 9.5
Mamaja...................2.0 = 11.0
Pinhead...................3.0 = 12.0
PartsDude...............1.5 = 12.0
CellarDoor..............4.0 = 13.5
SageBrush..............3.5 = 13.5
karmaloupster........5.0 = 17.5
Boyscout................5.0 = 20.0
Linkay49.................5.0 = 21.0
Fortunata................5.0 = 23.0
Smiley......................5.0 = 25.0

Good Luck!

AX

The ax (or axe) was among the tools and weapons used by the Indians. When making their canoes, they'd select a tree, and build a fire around its base. When the fire had burned the tree, the burnt wood was chipped away with axes. After the tree fell, the bark and limbs were removed. Then the inside of the tree was burned out. This formed the place where the people could sit inside. Clam shell tools were used to scrape out the rest of the inside of the boat. The ends were rounded with fire and an axe.
