Well players you let Pinhead sneak in there again. LOL. That makes 3 out of the last four games. I think she is trying to beat Sypher's record of most wins. Congratulations to Pinhead and a big WTG! for her win last week! Remember that the week of Thanksgiving there will be no Sname Game so that players can relax and enjoy the hollidays. The week after Thanksgiving will be a topic that will pertain to each individual player's country. Should be fun! So should this week, I hope. Have fun and enjoy the game. Hope we have more players this week.

Well done Pinhead good win...is it Thanksgiving for Snake this week?.....ok if i didn't know better i would say that there is a pattern here developing...Halloween (US tradition), The Wild West (US cultural tradition) and now Thanksgiving (US tardition)..geesh I'm out of good places to search for decent US phraseology..oh well it may have to do with the # of US based players I suppose but I'm suggesting a topic for a future week...Australia Televion Programmes 1968 - 1999...it'll be fun...no, I'm joking of course you need to have a list of possibilities longer then 9 to be an eligible subject, like Thanksgiving...BTW, what generally pertains to Thanksgiving? ...if i took my posts from the shows I've seen there is only 4 entries....Turkey, Cranberry Sauce, Soup Kitchen, and Family....is there more?? ------------------ If all the worlds wealth were divided between every man, woman & child presently alive on the planet, we would all have $13 million a piece. ************************************************** $13 Million for every single Human.... **************************************************

Congratulations (again) to PinGuru...WTG!Sage, a silly question, but I see a bit of work for you in the scoring department this week. If you're cutting applicable entries in half, are you going to carry 1/2's on the scoreboard, so that if an entry is say, 7 letters, will it be 3 1/2 or rounded out to 4? If you carry the 1/2s, this should be a close week, and sounds like fun! Thanks. BL ------------------ Coffee, chocolate, men...some things are just better rich.

KL - There are a lot of things associated with Thanksgiving. Food items Any Native American Tribe. (guests) Remember, half score for tribes from the area. People, places and things connected with the first Thanksgiging. I have edited the rules because of a minor change. To help explain the half score rule let me give you a couple examples: XXXX - General food item. = 4 points XXXXX - Name for same item at 1st TG = 2.5 points XXXXX - General utensil. = 5 points XXX XXXXX - Type of same utensil at 1st TG = 4 points Does this help explain the rules for valid half point entries? KL - The topic for the last week of November will be geared to each individual player's country. Sound interesting? You;ll have to wait to find out what it is. A little teaser. LOL

Way to go, Pinhead! Sorry I wasn't here to give you a run for your money from this end, but you're pretty stiff competition for all of us!!! Sage, I love this topic, and I am really impressed at the way you have spelled it out - seems like you covered all the bases. I know what Karma means about the locale of the subject, but I do have to say that after cricket players and a few other of those things, I for one am relieved to stay "home" for a while!!! Happy week, everybody! ------------------ God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. Jewish proverb [This message has been edited by Mamaja (edited 11-13-2000).]

Good going Pinhead! This week´s topic makes me think of all the yummy foods associated with it...my mouth is watering! Mamaja---This is NOT a challenge (I repeat, not a challenge!LOL). Although your entry for today has become a regular staple of Thanksgiving meals, it was most likely not a part of the original feast. Sweet potatoes, potatoes and yams had not yet been introduced to the region at the time. Good luck everyone!

Fort - you are right. Yam was not part of the first TG meal, but they are part of TG meals today. So, mamaja's entry won't be halved, but it is only three points anyway. Now, I have a question to ask of all players. Partsdude's entry of "turkey" is general. It includes domestic and the other kind. Since the other kind is the type they had at the first TG meal, "turkey" should not be half score. What do you think?

Sage...I agree with your take on 'turkey'. Some people argue that even the 'other kind' was not on the 1st TG table at all! The horror! lol Thanks for a great topic...I started reading something written about Thanksgiving this morning, and was astonished at some of the fallacies surrounding it, that I hadn't read before. (Of course, everything on the internet is not necessarily true) Anyhow...great choice for the week! BL ------------ Every Day is the Perfect Day to say Thanks!

I wouldn't argue either way, Fortunata!! I was pretty sure white potatoes weren't available at the time, but I really didn't know about sweet potatoes and yams. As I said, I cook them every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and my daddy always said I made them the best of anyone in the family, but I cannot tolerate them! As in But we sure can't have a turkey without them now, can we???? ------------------ God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. Jewish proverb

In the latest Reader's Digest, There is an interesting article about the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. The author wrote that amongst a lot of other foods, turkey was probably on the table also. What kind of turkey they served wasn't specified.

Thanks guys..Sage, if you saw the size of my feet, it would be 'impossible' to 'sneak'!!! LOL I know it's not Thursday, but....... ****************************** OTHER WAYS TO USE THE THANKSGIVING TURKEY *As a blunt object to fend off your pesky cousins with. *As a projectile to throw at the TV after Kathie Lee says, "Aren't they a wonderful band!" for the 25th time. *As a hood ornament. *As a disguise so your ugly Aunt Harriet can't kiss you and say, "How much you've grown!" *As a football for the after-meal game. *One word... bowling! *Fill it with whip cream - watch the fun. *An unexplored cavern for the new Barbie. *A visual aid to explain to children where babies come from. *Bury in the yard; for future midnight snacks. *If you're flying home, take the carcass as a carry-on. See what it looks like in the X-ray machine. Better yet, put it in a pet carrier and asked the flight attendant for some chicken feed. *As yet another object to drop from the top of the dorm to test the range of the splatter upon impact. *As a Christmas gift (avoid the holiday crowds this way!) *As a doorstop to keep your relatives out. *Makes a great doggie chew toy. *Wear as a helmet, declaring, "I'm TURKEYMAN!" *Before serving, paste feathers on the poor naked creature. *Place a speaker inside the bird, and from another room, amaze your guests with this talking fowl! *Throw the turkey out the window yelling, "You're FREE! Fly! FLY!" *Two words: Turkey puppet. *Toss the carcass into a turkey farm to intimidate next year's stock. *Attach to a fishing pole, slowly drive around the neighborhood in the back of a pickup and see how many dogs follow you. *From a concealed location, toss in front of a passing car. When they stop, run out screaming that they hit your dog!

Pinhead, I want you to know that you literally have a following here in the heartland. I send some of your chuckles to select friends that would appreciate certain items, but I know that you've arrived, because yesterday, someone sent one to me to be sure I hadn't missed it! This turkey on is great. I also have (somewhere) Martha Stewart's suggestions on what to do with the turkey carcas. If no one has posted it, I'll dig it out and send it in! ------------------ God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. Jewish proverb

Just picturing the turkey puppet is cracking me up! LOL Now you see why I call you Pingiggles? Keep ´em coming. Sage--I´ve been working on the side selling tickets to a New Year´s Eve party I´m helping to organize, so my concentration is a mess these days. I completely missed my time slot yesterday, so I guess you´ll be giving me the default score. Hope to make it today...got my list all ready and everything.

Fortunata, I have to tell you that I grew up with the puppet thing - it wasn't the turkey, but my mother used to buy whole chickens and do little acts with them before my father cut them up for frying. We used to know our fried chicken dinners intimately - - "Wave good bye to the girls, little chickie!" A couple of mother's days ago, the Kansas City Star Newspaper ran an article on crazy things you remember about your mother, and my sister got my mother top billing with this one! And you all wondered where Mama got her lunacy!!! ------------------ God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. Jewish proverb

Hey, Sage, you didn't buy that they used lard in olden times? I thought sure that would be acceptable for a "then" half-point value! ------------------ God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. Jewish proverb

Hi Sage...I believe my score for yesterday's entry of "NUTS" should be 2.0 not 4.0. It is documented that nuts and berries were an integral part of the Pilgrims' diet, and most assuredly they would have been on the '1st' Thanksgiving table. You didn't respond to Mama's query about 'lard', but it is believed that doughnuts (which originated in Germany), were brought to America with the Pilgrims. They started out as just fried balls of dough (fried in LARD), thus the name 'dough nuts'. Although there were no hogs at the time of the 1st TG, the lard would probably have been brought with them on the Mayflower (hopefully still fresh...yuk!) and probably would have been used in the preparation of certain foods. BL ------------------ Every Day is the Perfect Day to say Thanks! [This message has been edited by BagLady (edited 11-16-2000).]

My most humble apologies, Partsdude! I clearly suffered from severe brain cramps this morning - I saw the posting of Squanto, and I thought you had posted awfully early, but I just went right on ahead with my little search and found an "O" - didn't realize till I returned to the scene of the crime that it was Sagie who had posted "Squanto" and not you. I hope you'll forgive me - probably don't mind too much since you came up with a short one that could be split! Love you, PD!!! Really am sorry!!! ------------------ God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers. Jewish proverb
