A number of Firefox users have complained of the text looking blurry on some pages since the upgrading to Firefox 4. The problem still exists for me with Firefox 5. I notice it particularly on 'w' and 'v' at certain levels of zoom or text size. It probably also depends on the computer's ClearType settings, so may not be noticed at all

However, if anyone has noticed this and would like to cure it, there are a couple of ways it can be done:

1. Go to: 'Options > Advanced' and remove the tick from 'Use hardware acceleration when available'

2. Install the 'Anti-Aliasing Tuner' extension. This has several options for changing the way text is displayed.

The second method is perhaps better because it leaves the hardware acceleration feature enabled. This makes better use of the computer's graphics card, which makes the browser faster when it comes to animations.

At home, I dropped IE in favor of Firefox and haven't seen it on mine. I still use IE at work frown

Whether some letters are blurry or not seems to depend on a number of things. I have installed the extension and it has made the text better. With the extension disabled, this is what I see (screenshot).

Pretty sure it depends on operating system as well. I have used 4 and 5 on two different machines running WinXP (one home and one Pro) and didn't have this issue. I know almost all Windows7 users have though. Not sure about others.

I'm using Windows 7 and haven't had a problem. However, I checked the Cleartype option today and that was already selected so maybe that was enough to fix it on this machine.

I tried the ClearType settings but it didn't help in my case. I read that it might also depend on the type of graphics card used. The extension works OK. It has the side effect of making the character spacing slightly uneven but I find this easier to tolerate than faded 'v' and 'w' letters.

My home computer uses Vista, and I don't see that, so looks like it may be a issue that is sporadic.

I would think the type of monitor would have a big influence from one viewer to the next on the matter of graphic presentation. My old CRT is showing your link example as the letters being there but with only half the phosphor hits as the areas around them. Viewed from: IE8 Win XP servpak3 graphicscard Umax Astra 610
