Q1. When the Gregorian calendar was adopted in England and its colonies (and a few other places) it resulted in the omission of a few days from September 1752. How many days ( +/- 1 ) were there in the year 1752, in those places?

There were -11 days in September 1752. In September 1752 the Julian calendar was replaced with the Gregorian calendar in Great Britain and its American colonies. The Julian calendar was 11 days behind the Gregorian calendar, so 14 September got to follow 2 September on the day of the change. The result was that between 3 and 13 September, absolutely nothing happened!

hiya b42,
yep, but maybe I didn't phrase the question properly .. when you take off those 11 days how many days were there ( +/- 1 ) in the year 1752 (in Great Britain and the American colonies, and the other places that also changed calendars at that time)?

hiya eyeball! you've strayed out of lyrics into shootout, welcome aboard! you've answered your quota of 2 questions for the day .. one question answered within 24 hours (that's called your daily) and your other answer is your stumper question and, mate, they're both correct (but I don't think you needed me to tell you that) .. don't forget that you may submit one question for each answer submitted, to keep the game rolling and hopefully drag some more players in, cya

Q5. In the lead up to the Julian calendar being replaced by the Gregorian calendar in 1582 the architect of the calculations at that time, Aloysius Lilius, concluded that a correction of 10 days needed to be made. His suggestion of how to correct the drift in the equinox was "more radical" than the final solution: simply remove 10 days from the calendar. What was his suggestion?

I will try and get the ball rolling by asking a couple of dailies myself.

6. What unique fact do the songs "Unchained Melody" and "Lover's Concerto" have in common?

7. On the movie marquee poster for "Gone With the Wind" there are four names listed in bold letters as the stars. What are the other two names besides Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh?

Good luck!

On the original Star Trek series, it is well known that Capt. Kirk's middle initial is T for Tiberius. But, on one of the first episodes there was something that showed a different middle initial for him. What was the initial and which episode was it?

Ah, if only things were cut and dry more often.
Even this is not without conflicting "facts".
Anyways, I'll go with 96

UPDATE: 7/21/99 - Although the OSPD3 lists 97, Dan Brinkley, Director of Columbus Ohio Scrabble Club #494 has informed me that "DA" is no longer acceptable in tournament play, (being regarded as foreign), bringing the number down to an easy-to-remember 96
