This year's edition of the FLC comp runs for almost 9 months over 46 rounds from the early next month, Saturday 6th August 2011, until the end of April next year, Saturday 28th April 2012. This is the longest tipping comp run here at FT .. oxygen tanks will be supplied to those of us who make it to the end and stagger across the finish line. Apart the A-League, where there are only 5 games played, the FLC comp has the lowest strike rate for correct tips .. we've had two weeks where we averaged less than 21% between us .. that's around 2.5/12 each! See this post by dg_dave last week in the Copa America comp. There is only one change to the rules .. as foreshadowed at the end of last season, bonus picks have been devalued and are now worth ½ pt each (except for perfect picks which shall continue to be worth a full point). The rules are the simple: points
default
upsets
perfect picks
other bonus picks
dead-heats
bonus picks
| one point for each correct pick .. home win, draw, away win.
if you forget to pick, the away teams are all yours; but if the wooden spoon score is
more, you receive the WS score.
if you pick a game solo, you score a bonus pick .. or one of two players.
10/12 or higher receives two bonus picks (plus a knighthood from Her Majesty);
and 8/12 or 9/12 scores one bonus pick;
no one picks win, whoever picks a draw;
no one picks draw, whoever picks the upset win.
weekly wins vs. wooden spoons countback determine podium finishes; if the differential
is the same, it's most weekly wins; if they're identical, then bonus picks will be used.
bonus picks are worth ½ pt each. If you pick all home teams (or all bar one) or you're
running default, you're ineligible for bonus picks. |
This is the 6th edition of the FLC tipping comp. Last season's comp was won by paper_aero, followed by Howie72 and Sypher. The one before was won by Howie72, followed by KrivoyRog and paper_aero .. will Howie72 and paper_aero finish on the podium again? All tipping comp junkies, and anyone else who's interested in playing and/or knocking those two players off the podium, please sign-in!

We've started the season with a bang. Between us we hit pay dirt with a paltry 26.7% .. which is a shade over 3/12. This is our 6th worst performance in the history of the FLC tipping comps at funtrivia. Thank heavens we're playing this for fun, else we'd all starve to death!
It could've been worse .. Brighton equalised with 7 minutes to go, and then hit the winner in the last minute of the game, and thus 17 of 19 got this game right. If Brighton hadn't equalised no-one would've picked it, and we'd have hit an all-time low of just 19.3% .. 61-17 = 44/228 = 19.3%
Last year we had 14 runners .. 13 of us are back for another dose. This year we welcome aboard 6 new runners: BxBarracuda, Dizart, George95, illiniman14, szabs and trev1 .. this adds up to a field of 19 for the 2011-12 FLC tipping comp, an all-time record! The previous record was the field of 18 runners in 2007-08 and again in 2008-09.
There were 3 weekly winners with 5/12 (equals the all-time low) and three of us collect a wooden spoon each with a humungous 1/12 .. srini701 & gtho4 would've scored zero as their sole correct pick was the win by Brighton!
BxBarracuda, one of the new runners, has jumped to an early lead. Let's see if he's a sprinter or a stayer. That's one week behind us .. another 45 and we greet the judges at the finish post. |

There was that one week that was better than the 63%. Looking at FLC comps as srini had a question regarding lowest percentage, I saw the FLC had a week where 64.7% of tippers were right. http://www.funtrivia.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/313152/3It was week 33 of the 2006-07 comp.

Excluding the leader and the tail-ender, only one person retained their spot from last week. George95 scores a weekly win with a mammoth 9/11 and flies up the table from 9th to 2nd .. he also enters the FLC Record Book with 4 bonus picks, which equals the all-time record (which was also equalled last week by ozzz2002).
Our leader, ozzz2002, was next best with 8/11 followed by szabs with 7/11
.. she skyrockets up the table from second-last to third!
The two leaders have put 6 pts between themselves and the rest of us; and the season is just 3 weeks old .. and they each have 7 bonus picks. Imagine where they'd be if bonus picks were still worth a full pt each.
N-Bomb lodged his picks twice, once on Tue 9th Aug and again on Mon 15th Aug .. the first post has been ignored. This double post may explain why he failed (fortuitously) to lodge picks for Round Two on Sat 13th Aug.
Last week we had 12 players (2nd to 13th) separated by a mere 1½ pts .. this week we're down to 9 players (3rd to 11th) separated by 1½ pts. As the 6 players running 13th to 18th are also separted by just 1½ pts, we should see plenty of movement up and down the table after this weekend's games.
