The defending champion of the inaugural full season College Football tipping competition was illiniman14, who won a close battle with gtho4, while BxBarracuda trailed a bit back, but held on for Bronze. Rules: 1. One point for a correct tip. 2. The deadline will always be Friday midnight FT time. One point will be deducted for late tips, after a period of grace of two or three hours past the deadline. 3. Late starters come in at the lowest score, or lowest active tipper if the lowest tipper has not tipped for four consecutive weeks. 4. Default score will be the away teams, or in the case of Neutral Site games, the team listed first. 5. Tips not in by kickoff Saturday receive default score. Bonus points: 1. One point will be awarded for a solo pick (or one of two if 12+ tippers). 2. One point will be awarded for picks where the winning team was more than a 10 point underdog. **Lines taken from New York Daily News on day of games** 3. One point if a player scores 13+/16. 4. Ineligible for bonus if player picks all homes or all bar one. 5. Ineligible for bonus if player tips all the favored teams for the week or all bar one. Other than the 2 Bowl Weeks, all games will be played on Saturdays. The competition begins the first week of the College Football season on September 3rd.

The college football season is off to a flying a start. Starting with the Wake Forest at Syracuse game being pushed up from Saturday to Thursday, which had the home team fighting back to tie the score and then win in overtime. The South Florida at Notre Dame game had to long breaks as lightning storms were in the area and the stadium had to be cleared out. Northwestern went on the road at Boston College without Heisman Hopeful quarterback Dan Persa at the helm and were able to get a big win. East Carolina gave South Carolina a scare early on, but when seasoned quarterback Stephen Garcia got in the game it became all South Carolina. BYU scored 14 late points which including a fumble run in for a touchdown to complete the comeback over Ole Miss. In the undercard of the top 25 battles of the weekend Boise State went into the Georgia Dome and beat Georgia in their home away from home. This was Boise State's first win against an SEC team ever. In the main event BCS Championship runner up Oregon took the loss against an LSU team that has seen its share of bumps in the road this offseason.
Welcome George95 and rxbigdawg to the competition. Gtho4 and illiniman14 continue their own version of king of the mountain in this competition, while the rest of us mere mortals can only watch on with awe and try for 3rd. They share the HoF and are the only tippers to earn bonus points this week. Ozzz2002 can be found in a familiar place for this competition as well, as he takes this week’s spoon.
No solo or underdog bonus points this week, though if any of us had picked South Florida that person would have scored 2 bonus points for a solo and an underdog pick.
Upset wins went to South Florida, Northwestern and LSU.

We had 2 Overtime games, Iowa v Iowa State and California v Colorado. Iowa State stunned Iowa for the victory in this interstate rivalry. In the matchup of top 25 teams Alabama went into Happy Valley and took care of business against Penn State . Rice from Conference USA upset Big 10 Purdue and another Conference USA team University of Central Florida put a hurt on ACC school Boston College. Notre Dame gave away another one with some crushing turnovers and lost the game to Michigan with 2 seconds left in the game. Auburn had a last second goal line stand to keep Mississippi State out of the end zone by about 2 inches to seal their victory and avoid overtime. Texas starts this season on the right notes holding off BYU for their second win of the season 17 - 16.
Dg_dave, gtho4, Howie72, N-Bomb and rxbigdawg tie for the HoF with 14 this week. They all earned perfet pick bonus points along with dutchy50 who picked 13. George95 also picked 13 but only had 1 underdog picked this week with Rice. BxBarracuda and gillyharold join ozzz2002 for the spoon this week with 9 right.
No solo or underdog points yet, closest was when only three people picked Iowa State to upset instate rival Iowa.
Upsets of the week were Auburn, Iowa State, Rice and Michigan.

Iowa comes from behind by outscoring Pittsburgh 21-3 in the 4th quarter, for a 31-27 win. Auburn loses their first game in over a year, as they get topped by Clemson 38-24 in Death Valley. In the battle of the Mormon state Utah topped BYU. Louisville bounced back from their defeat to UCF last week and shocked almost everyone by beating Kentucky. Colorado beat in state rival Colorado State for their first win of the season. I still haven't picked a game involving Notre Dame right as they top Michigan State this past week for thier first win of the season. Texas is back on track and 3-0 as they avenged last years home loss to UCLA by beating them on the road. In the main events Ohio State couldn't muster any offense and fell to Miami (FL) and Oklahoma solidified their #1 ranking by going into Florida State and winning.
It was the lowest scoring week for us as a group this year so far as only one tipper, themonarch, scored a perfect picks bonus point. More than half of us scored under 10 right. Themonarch took the HoF with 13 and added both a perfect pick and a solo bonus point. Ozzz2002 ran away with the spoon with a 5 this week. I have become morbidly interested in what his method of picking games is.
We had our first solo points going to ozzz2002 and paper_aero for the Florida International win over UCF, followed by dg_dave and themonarch for Louisville topping Kentucky and also BxBarracuda and ozzz2002, who gets his second solo bonus point of the week, for Utah over BYU.
Utah, Louisville and Florida International were the underdog winners this week and all led to solo bonus points.
There is a correction to note regarding the final score of last weeks Utah v USC game, while USC still won the game it was determined 2 hours after that game that a touchdown off a blocked field goal attempt as time expired was taken off the scoreboard in error, making that final score 23-14, rather than 17-14. It had been taken off because of a penalty incurred when most of the USC bench went onto the field before the play was over. One more thing to note, we broke the record for most solo points in one week as a group this week, by topping the old mark of 4.

Ozzz2002 ran away with the spoon with a 5 this week. I have become morbidly interested in what his method of picking games is. I had to google the word 'method'. What an interesting concept!

Georgia Tech squandered two chances in the red zone in the first half and had another bad turnover, but their defense and special teams put a hurt on North Carolina in the first half after an early score and the defense got a sack to end the game to seal the 35-28 win. Notre Dame gets a 4th quarter touchdown and a fourth down conversion with under a minute to play to seal a 15-12 victory over Pittsburgh . Oklahoma State was down 20 - 3 at Halftime, then scored the next 27 points and held on for a 30-29 win over Texas A&M . Keep your eye out in the future for the name Tyrann Mathieu, this cornerback for LSU can do it all, from pass defense, to interceptions, to ripping the ball out of receivers hands for turnovers, to returning punts, to downing the ball inside the 5 on punts. Is there any wonder that he wears Patrick Peterson's number after being mentored by him. LSU got the win up in Morgantown against West Virginia even as the mountain fog rolled in towards the end of the game. Oklahoma avenged their loss to Missouri in week 7 last year, which knocked them out of the #1 ranking, by getting the win tonight.
We had 4 games where everyone got it right and 1 that none of us hit with. It was a rough start for us as the first 8 games played only resulted in 76 correct tips, but we finished strong with 122 correct tips in the 2nd half of the games. BxBarracuda and paper_aero split the HoF this week with 14 correct, finishing 1 ahead of N-Bomb. Only Bx gets a perfect pick bonus point though, because paper_aero didn't pick any underdogs and N-Bomb only chose 1 underdog, California. LeoDaVinci joins ozzz2002 , who was looking safe until solo miss picks of Tulsa and Arizona, for this weeks spoon with 10 right. It's getting crowded at the top of the leaderboard as well with gtho4 being joined by Howie72, illinman14 and N-Bomb up there, and the rest of the top 10 being 3 or less points behind the leaders.
None of us tipped the Kansas State upset, which could have been worth an upset bonus point, of Jekyll & Hyde team Miami (FL). Miami (FL) has lost to Maryland, who got blown out by Temple, yes Temple, today, as well as Kansas State and have only beaten Ohio State. Gillyharold was 36 seconds away from some big points for heavily favored Texas Tech falling to Nevada, but a touchdown for Tech with 36 seconds left in the game allowed them the 35-34 victory.
Kansas State and Oklahoma State pulled the upsets this week.
Another week, another record for the competition, our 198 correct picks as a group tops the previous high of 191.
