Darn.. looks like george has beaten me to the challenge...
(I would challenge the error of the entry... not the word itself... two letters changed)

Boy do I feel like a fool - I kept looking at JW's entry and could not for the life of me figure out why it didn't make sense and why nothing that I had scouted out preliminarily seemed to fit - now I get it!!!!
    Twas brillig, JW. NOT!!!

ok I don't have a oed dictionary and I can't find one for free online..I have meriam webster online...are we to check the words against only the oed or the scrabble site listed to check...does the word have to be in the scrabble site to be allowed...

    eyeball...
I've just been using dictionary.com and rolling the dice.
I figure if it's common enough a word to be on dictionary.com, it's bound to be
    in the all encompasing OED.

I am just wondering cuz not all the words are in the scrabble thingy listed and if we are accepting words not in that site I don't think it should be there to check by is all...

First thing first....Well Done George on the challenge on JW's entry....not because the word doesn't exist....just that they changed too many letters !! You receive JW's points for the day !!

Eyeball...the OED is the main checkpoint for all entries, the site I gave is just another reference. Not all words are on the scrabble site and even if it is not there...I still check the OED as it might be there and still be valid.

    Darn... did someone challenge?
Did I miss out on my defense?

Anyway... just for reference (if I'm too late to defend):
nabk is defined as 'the edible berries of the Zizyphys Lotus, a tree of Northern Africa, and Southwestern Europe.'

    here's the online definition

Hee hee. I feel like rocking the boat, so I'm going to suggest a rule change.

Strikes me (no offense, Sypher, your words have been awesome) that the game's weak spot is that the player in the first time slot has a slight advantage, since once a day for the last four days they can add/delete one letter at will, to change the total number of letters in the word. So it would be interesting to see what would happen if some restrictions were placed on that letter add/drop, such as (and this is by no means a thorough or thought-out list, but just some ideas):

    - the letter added must be a vowel
    - the letter added must have a point value of 1
    - the letter dropped must be the one with the highest point value
    - the letter dropped must not have been changed by the most recent poster (e.g. X posts TOAST, Y posts BOAST, the 1st poster the next day can drop anything but the B)

    What do you think?

haven;t thought this through, but could you rotate the player that starts the round? Like the dealer at a poker table rotates every hand?

I would love to rotate...but due to time differences...Not everyone can go first in the game !!

As to Chelseabelle's Idea....I like the suggestion of not being able to change the last letter that turned up....only problem with that is...The first person is the only one who can't do that, and what if it is the only way to make a mew word. So, that can't entirely work.

As for being at an advantage....not really...You still have to make a word with the letters that have been left by the previous person, and believe me they have been some right letters left.

Let me think what can be done...but for the moment..leave it as it is...Remember anyone else can take the slot before me. In fact once Karma returns, he will be first !!

Hi Sypher....I guess I'm a little confused with the scoring. (What me, confused? lol) If Val and I were tied, and I got double points, how could she be so far ahead of me? Just curious....no chance in h*** that I'd ever win this thing!

I was surprised to see my name on top too, BL...
    I think maybe it's because I put a Z in place of the K...
The Z is worth 5 more points than the K...
Double the 5 and there's the difference in our scores..

(I think that's how it works... I'm not 100 percent sure either...)

    Valerie

BTW: BL... did you get my PM about the NCAA contest?

Sorry , Val I am challenging your entry... the past tense of the verb duel is duelled ... double the 'l '.(Not dueled).

Good spot Ren !! Can't give you the points yet until Val has defended herself.

Saying that...I just checked the Scrabble Link and 'Dueled' is a valid word there....

Maybe it is not the same word you are thinking of...If that is the case, you will be deducted points for a failed challenge.

Like I said, can't judge until Val has defended herself...Sorry !!

'SOK. I have written to the Grammarlady.com, as it is not strictly spelling. However if it is in the scrabble bible so be it.
