The most recent 'out of control' rioting I can remember in North America was the outbreak of civil disobedience (mostly looting which was accompanied by a few cases of violence toward the police) during and after Hurricane Katrina. Not a business went without some mob damage done to it. That aspect is hidden when people recall the destruction caused by the weather there and then.

There was no rioting in Leeds that I am aware of and I haven't seen any reports of people shooting at police in Birmingham. There has been a lot of false reporting and rumours.

I think it is probably over now, people are seeing that the courts are taking strong action and that people are being arrested and given prison sentences, it has removed the fun aspect. Also it rained! I think the UK has more CCTV coverage than anywhere else in the world which is why they can catch a lot of the people.

Read today that one young man turned himself after seeing his picture printed in the newspaper, and a mother turned in her daughter.

I would definitely turn my daughter in.
