According to the news there have been multiple deaths in Jersey today from stabbings, unconfirmed reports are of five killed and one critical. The hospital A&E Department is closedwith additional medical staff being called in and the area around the place the stabbings are alleged to have taken place is sealed off. This is a residential area of St Helier.

This is not what we are used to here and must be alarming to our tourists on what is the busiest weekend of the year for tourists, the Battle of Flowers was on Thursday and Friday. Not that tourists would normally visit that part of town as there are no shops, bars or hotels there.

This will not be to do with the riots which took place in England last week.

My thoughts immediately went to you, Sue, so glad you are safe. St Helier is a beautiful place xxx

Glad to see you are safe? Hopefully, this was an isolated incident.

It is being said, unconfirmed, that they are all one family and further rumour is that they might be Polish.

The man who stabbed them is the husband of one of the women, he killed her, their two children, his father-in-law and the best friend of his wife and her child. He then stabbed himself. Within the past few weeks he had tried to commit suicide. He is still seriously ill but expected to live.

The last time we had a murder her was about seven years ago, that was sex related. I can remember a number of years ago that a Portuguese man killed his two children and committed suicide, that was horrific enough, this is just beyond horrific.

The stabbings took place within a few hundred yards of where my daughter was at school, I used to park near the entrance to the private road and walk my daughter to her school gate.

Sue I'm so sorry to hear about this tragedy in your corner of the earth. I heard it on my e mail news and rushed here to see if you'd posted anything. I'm sure it makes it even worse when your island is so peaceful.

I keep thinking how terrible it is that when someone feels so horribly low, they take others with them denying them some chance to have happiness.

I saw in a story that the one before that was back in the 1970's, and very little violent crime happened there at all.

How many live on the island?

Definitely later than the 70s, in 1987 Roderick Newall killed his parents, that was a very famous case. Then there was the Portuguese man who killed his two children and himself. Those aside, murders are very rare here, in fact most crime is rare other than drugs and alcohol-related public disorder when pubs and clubs close. Our population is about 91,000. One doesn't hear of people with knives, prostitution, muggings, it is just a safe place to live. When we get vandalism, which does happen from time to time, we get incensed.

It is just as well that it hasn't been a hot few days, it was on the news just now that they are starting to remove the bodies from the scene.
