This thread is for Shootout chat. The reason I changed the numbering of the shootout games is to flag which game it is by the date. Game # 101 is month of Jan (1) in the year 2001 (01).

GT - If you would like to do me a favor, I would like for you to rewrite the shootout rules for me and make them simpler for new players to understand. If you agree to do this, start a new rules thread. OK, mate?

Auschic - The reason I didn't comment on your answer to S15 is that yoou weren't authorized a bonus question since you had already answered a daily and stumper for that day and weren't more than 70 points out of second place. Also, remember that you have to email me the answers to the questions you ask.

Oh ok Sage. I just assumed I was miles behind everyone else. Never mind. Also, I had forgotten your email address and to get you the answers quickly I sent them via Private Message. This is a much easier way to do it. Did you get them?

gt, I brought that crossword challenge up to the top in "challenges". =) good memory. second I think Sypher's 2-letter Scrabble words was worded improperly, because 109 is the answer if you combine the American dictionary with the UK one. The question didn't specify. my 2˘ =)

George, I believe your question No.42 is incorrect. Hey Jude is not the longest playing single to reach No.1 in the UK Charts. ------------------ If Everyone was INSANE....would the SANE get committed ?

no, I won't edit it, let the question stand what is the name of the other song and when was it #1 .. if that song pushes Hey Jude to #2, wanna have a go at answering which song is next in line? sage'll need the info you've got anyway, so he can adjudicate on the validity of the question, you want me to ring you instead? standby, you ready ..

I've sent Sage the site and yes...it is the actual single.... I know it is 12 minutes long as it is one of the only songs that I can leave on and take a cigarette break and come back before it has ended !!

I looked at this last night. I have no idea what song Joe is referring to, all I found were sites confirming that Hey Jude was in fact the longest playing single ever to make it to number one on the British charts. Three questions Sypher: 1. Did your song make it to number one on the UK charts? 2. Was it the 12 minute version that made it to number one or another version? 3. How can you sleep at night, getting paid by the hour for dee-jaying when you spend a quarter of an hour outside having a cigarette?

Sypher, there should be no problem posting the song title in here as it's not disclosing an answer .. post your site too, as it'll disprove a long held "myth" about the longest playing #1 single .. would radio stations play a single that was that long - isn't that a no no in the musci world (The Beatles took a risk making their's that long) ac, having a quiet day? we're off to Neilson Park on the harbour, in fact I'm supposed to be packing the car so I better get outta here, cya

Can I guess? Was it American Pie? Macarthur Park? Although if Sypher put the latter on during a gig he would not get any repeat trade..lol Have a great day on the harbour George! That's a magical place. Why don't you meet us at Centennial Park tonight for a Moonlight Cinema screening of The Dish? Bring a picnic rug, wine, nibblies and doona. I've heard it's a great film. (Sorry Linda...this should have been in a Private Message..lmao!!)

OK...The song was "I'D DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE (BUT I WON'T DO THAT)" by Meat Loaf. According to official sites.... http://web.libertysurf.co.uk/lee.gregory/anylove7.htm The site above shows the 7" single (Vinyl) still longer than Hey Jude but not at the 12 minute version that the CD Single had. Since most stores only sell CD's, the likelyhood of anyone having a copy of that is highly unlikely. The Album "Bat out of Hell 2" has the 11min 58sec version. So..even if you say the 7" Vinyl is the only one that counts as a version that went to No.1 in October 1993. It was still longer than the Beatles !!

ac, we drove past it around 10pm on the way home .. I wound down the window, didja hear me yell out to ya? Sypher, this is geting real interesting .. if you're right mate then you deserve a medal, a TJ moosetik, cause I can't find one site anywhere which says the Meat Loaf single is the longest playing single to reach #1 on the British charts. You;d think at least one of the sites would've .. Hey Jude pops up everywhere. This page http://web.libertysurf.co.uk/lee.gregory/anylovepr_cd.htm shows a promo CD aka radio edit at 5:19 and the 7:48 single immediately below it: is that what record companies gave radio stations, freebies? Sites which sell rare records list the 7" vinyl single in their selling list of rareties e.g. www.rarerecords.com.au/7inch.html These are some of the sites which show the playing time of the CD single: 5:22 http://webplaza.pt.lu/public/pmetzger/LISTINGS/ALLSONGS.txt 5:24 www.us.hsanet.net/user/driko/cds_various.html 5:23 http://jrumbuc.freeyellow.com/rock__various_.html and this site http://www.rocknrollvault.com/11051111.htm says "The hit single was created after almost seven minutes was cut out of the album version of the song." There's not one site (and I went thru a truckload of them) which lists, on the same page, the top 40 singles in 1993 and the record id number, which would prove what was being sold at the time as the chart-topping single. Maybe we should post this in "I Need An Answer" cause it's got me.

nothings changed mate, it's a double daily allowance in the last week 2 dailies and 2 stumpers song titles count as a daily the sage bonus question applies when it's a normal daily allowance (i.e. not the last week) when you can answer one of them as a 3rd question for double points if you're more than 70 points behind 2nd place ... still recovering from the Old Trafford celebrations are we? lol

I have decided to add a bonus score starting this month (Feb. 2001). Since most of the months have a special topic or holiday connected to it, I thought it would be fun to have players submit new questions based on that month's topics. This month has Groundhog's day, Valentine's day, Lincoln and Washington's birthdays, etc. Players that ask a new question based on a topic for that month will receive 5 points for the question. Do you guys like this idea? It might be an incentive for people to ask new questions. Congratulations to Auschic34 for winning the Shootout game for last month!
