Twenty20 Champions League 2011 in India, September 19-Oct 8The Third edition of the T20 Champions League cricket takes place in India this year between September 19 and October 8. You don't need cricketing know-how to take part in this comp here. All we can do here is toss a coin (or throw a dart) and pick the winners for each match. No bankers to pull you down, and bonus points if you are the sole tipper of a match. Best of all, it's not a long competition and it's all over in less than a month. gtho4 was the winner of the inaugural competition in 2009 and paper_aero won it last year, ahead of Howie72 and BxBarracuda. paper_aero has been on the podium both years now. Can he make it 3 in a row? Will it be your turn this year? Put your name down here if you would like to take part so I know you will be there. 11 people took part in the comp last year. Hoping to see a decent turn out this year too.... ****************** Format: 2 teams from England, 1 each from India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies play qualifiers (6 matches) and 3 teams qualify for main tournament. Qualifiers: Ruhuna (Sri Lanka); Trinidad & Tobago (West Indies); Auckland (New Zealand); Kolkata Knightriders (India); Leicestershire and Somerset (England) Main tournament: 2 groups of 5 teams playing each other in league format (10 matches per group) followed by semis and finals. Group A: Cape Cobras (South Africa); New South Wales (Australia); Chennai Super Kings (India); Mumbai Indians (India); Qualifier Group B: Royal Challengers Bangalore (India); Warriors (South Africa); South Australia (Australia); Qualifier; Qualifier

Srini, what dates will picks have to be lodged on? I'm away for 8 days during this (without internet) and suspect I'll miss them and will have to pass.

I'll be away for both rounds two and three, so count me out for this one, regretfully.

George95 who said he was 1/1 in cricket comps (he won the ICC World Cup comp earlier this year) has started this comp too on a good note. He managed 2 sole pick points and is a point clear off paper_aero and srini701 We all managed to get 1 game right and none of us managed another. 4 bonus points awarded this round for sole picks and they make the only difference on the standings.
Somerset, Trinidad & Tobago and Kolkata Knight Riders came through the qualifiers and join the 7 others already there. The main tournament starts Friday, September 23 so do remember to lodge your tips for the next round before then.

There have already been some really close matches, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings losing on their home ground for the first time in 9 matches and with Mumbai Indians also pulling off a last ball, one wicket win over Trinidad & Tobago, who defended 98 runs with a tigerish zeal! Somerset made it 2 out of 2 against the Kolkata Knight Riders while the two South African sides, Chevrolet Warriors and Cape Cobras look to be the most compact and the best sides in the tournament after the opening round of matches. BxBarracuda bounced to the top of the ladder here, picking 4 of the 6 matches and 2 sole pick bonus points to go with them. He is followed a point behind by George95, srini701 and Sypher. N-Bomb is a further point behind. gtho4 and LeoDaVinci made it 2 spoons in a row and are bringing up the rear for now....

BxBarracuda retains his 1 point lead over George95 at the top, while LeoDaVinci steadfastly refuses to pick more than 1 game right each round ....picks his third consecutive spoon as a result....

He adds a solo pick point for good measure and may well have sealed his place on the podium gtho4 keeps pace with ozzz and posts a similar score and moves into clear second place, 1 point ahead of a chasing pack of 4 that now includes BxBarracuda and George95. Howie72 scores a big fat zero...not ONE right pick from 7 matches! This Champions League T20 has always been most unpredicatble (maybe that's why ozzz does so well in this )...On the bright side, LeoDaVinci got 3 right this round! Keep your fingers crossed if you expect to be on the podium for this one ...any one of the top 10 can still make it!

I KNEW this stupid Champions League T20 is a most unpredictable thing...both ON the field and here in our tipping comp! And I was right Mumbai Indians (of all the teams!) managed to win the tournament, beating a rather subdued Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. Eralier in the semi-finals, Bangalore once again chased down a 200+ total to shock New South Wales, while Mumbai just did enough to get past Somerset, thanks to Lasith Malinga. Over here in our comp, Sypher picked the lot in the final round (!!) and came out of nowhere to take the top spot!!!! How in the world did he manage this ? As a result of that fantastic final round, ozzz2002 had to be content with the second place. If only ozzz had placed more faith in the Mumbai Indians srini701 emulated Howie from the previous round and picked a big fat 0 in this round to go sliding down the ladder....N-Bomb failed to lodge tips for the final round and as a result, he went down along with srini 4 people finished equal on 15 points and I had to resort to tie-break to decide the placings. Usually the tie-break procedures for most of our comps here is: 1) Number of HoFs 2) if equal, differential between HoF and spoon 3) if still equal, More number of HoFs place higher Our 2 former champions in this tipping comp, gtho4 and paper_aero went out of reckoning on that count (paper may regret lodging tips late for the round and losing out on the first semis). BxBarracuda and George95 went neck to neck in everything and in the end, decided to award BOTH of them the final spot on the podium!
So that makes our podium: 1--Sypher (his first in this particular one and our 3rd different winner in 3 comps) 2--Ozzz2002 (second time he's finishing second in this comp after the inaugural comp in 2009!) 3--BxBarracuda and George95 (second consecutive podium for BxB in this comp, and second consecutive podium for George in a cricket comp!)
Hearty Congrats to all our podium finishers and a big thank you to everybody for taking part in this quick, short comp....Hoping to see you around when my next tipping comp starts.....

Well, that was fun, especially if you like roller-coasters. Congrats to our Pommy mate for his Houdini act, and also to BxB and George.
And of course, thanks to srini for the fun write-ups and prompt posting.
