May I be the first on this months thread? I took this photo of Bristol from the balcony of
a pub called 'The Scotchman and his Pack'. (An odd name for a pub, I hear you say. It's located
at the bottom of a very steep hill. A scotchman was employed to place a 'scotch' from his pack
behind the wheels of a cart to stop it rolling backwards down the hill when it stopped.)

I was fortunate enough to have a day out in London with one of my Autralian team mates who was on a UK visit. We did the British Museum, John Lewis, had a lovely meal, oh yes, and had a few drinks!

I thought that for the start of October I'd share some of the British Museum treaures - the Museum by the way is still FREE to enter.

So, we start with some of the Elgin marbles

I have been putting more plants in the garden, not that they show at the moment.

This weekend's reason to go downtown was "Flavours of Fall", which involved lots of things to do with pumpkins (including cake and pie) and rides on horse drawn wagons. Here are some of the pumpkin carvings.

St Edmund's Wolf on the cliff top near Hunstanton. There is a story about Edmund and the wolf. He was the Patron Saint of England until St George took over after the Crusades.

It's a camera gantry, and your fonts appear like our pre-1953 for the numbers and similar to the 1953-63 for the letters, but not the same.

I just know there's a sign out from them that has a name on it .. something along the lines of a Truck Survellience Photography Unit no doubt.
Do you have them over in the west, MG? Bit hard for truckies to avoid this one as it's too far out of the way on crappy roads to get around it.

I don't know - I've never seen any that I can recall but I don't get out onto isolated roads all that much.

Once I couldn't collect old train tickets any more I shifted to old road signs, and have become something of an authority as I run the pool on Flickr so need to know all the details. It's sad how most things were designed and often built far better in the past than they are now, so I hold on to as much as I can before it's gone forever as the signs are all at least 48 years old and been on death row ever since.

This bird sat on the edge of my deck for ages the other afternoon. I swear it knew Precious was watching, and couldn't get at it, and just stayed there to tease her.
