Have a question about a particular product, so I guess this is directed at Canadians!

Anyone have and like Rogers Rocket Mobile internet stick? I'm moving soon and need to get internet access for my new place. My dad suggested the rocket stick instead of getting a modem and wireless router, but I kind of recall maybe hearing negative things about the stick, like doesn't work all the time maybe? Is it suitable to be my main internet connection at home? I had the impression that it was better for travelling or as a backup rather than primary way of accessing the internet.

Any thoughts? Would you recommend this?

Well, I'll talk with you about it. I have no experience with the laptop's mobile wireless product you specifically ask about and I would never attempt to give advice contrary to what your father has given. I do have a view though. That is to wait until you are situated in wherever you are going to. If the new location has a cable for TV service, that would be the best option. Use the mobile wifi USB device for remote operation. Every watt of power put through it will in the long run, shorten the life of the product. So save it for emergancies or for use you are going to use the lappie in a room without the cable box/jack and rely on hard wiring as much as possible. Good luck on the move.

What plan are they offering you? How many GBS and the cost? In the past it was 29.99 for only 500MB.
Check out exactly how much usage you are allowed. I had looked at this for traveling purposes and was taken aback by the "sticker shock".

I believe the plan I was looking at was $36/month for 1 GB and if I sign a contract of two years or more there's no cost for the actual device. Thing is I really don't know how much I use per month, like "1 GB" means nothing to me. I don't really download much though, just browse sites, use e-mail, etc. 2 GB would be about the same monthly cost as internet through a modem, so maybe if I use that much I may as well go with the modem (but then I'd need to buy the modem and router up front).

I guess first step is figure out exactly how much I use!

Thanks mehaul for your thoughts as well. That's a good point about shortening the life of the product.

Do you send or receive pictures through email? Usage adds up fast in that regard. Things as simple as automatic updates to Windows from Microsoft can also add up. Not to mention any other updates to basic programs such as an anti-virus. All things to consider.

Is there an upload limit? I'd check that too.

Best bet would be to find out how much you use, like has been stated.
