Oh naughty naughty Mama! Are you doing this to provoke me?

Challenge your Motors bit as not allowed!

OK, Somali, you got me. Every morning of my life I read the talk thread first, but today - noooooo - I saw a chance to post something and verified the spelling and posted. No Motors points for me. (p.s. I did go so far as to see whether or not BagLady got points for Motors yesterday, and when I saw that she did, I didn't bother to see whether the rule had been amended for the rest of the week. My bad!)
And as for whether or not it's too early to drink, I just want to know if it's too early to pass out drunk????
Sending a St. Bernard your way, Somali sweetheart - hold on just a little longer!!!!!

Now Somali, as promised. I will address your other challange about the sidecar. The Swollow Sidecar Company did make sidecars at first, but later made automobiles. The first 2 models they introduce themselves were the SS I and the SS II. Wonder what the SS stood for. Later they developed a sports car and called it Jaguar. The Swallow Sidecar name was dropped and they went by Jaguar. It's interesting to know that they build bodies for another famous car maker that branched off from them.

OK Somali, you finally win one. However, since Mamaja's entry was only half invalid, you will receive half the challange points. You will get 5 points added to your score for today.

Sage - Fort's entry was given as:

Swallow Sidecar followed by Jaguar as the manufacturer.

Swallow Sidecar company went on to produce automobiles as you say, but there has never been a vehicle called the Jaguar Swallow Sidecar. There was the Austin Swallow saloon, for example, and the S.S.1, S.S.2 (but not under the name of Jaguar).

Therefore Swallow Sidecar as the name of a car manufacturer would have made sense, but putting Jaguar as the manufacturer is wrong. The only way of reading it is as a "sidecar" (for a motorbike) called Swallow and made by Jaguar.

Don't quite understand why my challenge on Mama is only deemed worthy of 5 points, but then there are a lot of things about this game that I don't seem to understand, aren't there?

Thanks for the explanation, Sage. I know I would have had trouble making sense of it...LOL!

For more info on these lovely cars, go to: http://www.jaguarcars.com/uk/sja/

And hereīs a pic of one of the first Swallow Sidecar models, the SS1 Saloon...ainīt it a beaut?

---------------------------------------------
I didnīt put Jaguar in as the manufacturer, Somali, I put it in to say that it was also known as Jaguar (notice the web address), thatīs why I put it in italics rather than regular type. I guess I should have taken the time to explain, but it was late and I just wanted to go to bed. LOL

Iīll pour you a double shot of whisky if youīd like?
Sorry about all the confusion.

Okay, see what you make of this one.

I challenge BagLady's entry because the model "name" is 410, which should have been spelled out as "Four hundred ten" and which begins with "F".

wheeeee.... ain't this fun?!?!?!?!

Methinks someone is taking this 'game' WAY to seriously.
Sure, we all like to win, but hell... it's not like there's some huge cash prize awarded to the champion. There's not even a small piddly prize...
I'm beginning to remember why I dropped out of this game in the first place... the definition of the word fun isn't in some people's dictionary.
I understand why Sypher had to take a break from this game now.
You're a brave man, Sage...

Maybe I should just go back to the pick-em comps in Season Tickets. The life is getting beat out of the games in here.

Valerie

Somali - Are you sure you're not Chelseabelle? LOL

Valid entries are either Make or Model. If you enter "Swollow Sidecar" in the Yahoo search engine, it will come up with these two sites list exactly as below:

Jaguar Story, The - details the history from the Swallow Sidecar to 1998. Includes photos.
History of Jaguar - from the Swallow Sidecar in 1922 to 1985. Focus is on the business side.

You can see where it might be interpreted as Jaguar being the make. Technically is is singe the name was changed. Besides that, Swollow Sidecar is a make and therefore valid!

As for the half (5) points given for your challange, I now take away because Mamaja's entry is a valid entry. Nothing was said that you couldn't put "Motors" in your entry, just that those words wouldn't count as score.
If you are unhappy with my decisions, I am sorry. I have to be fair in all matters.

Somali, you ought to join "The Quest". You'd be good at completing the quests and in there you aren't competing against others, just yourself. Except when you reach Knighthood. Then you would have the oppertunity to compete with others one on one. Check it out! Would love to have you as a crusader.

Sorry Sypher for the shameless plug for one of my games. LOL

Re: Val's post of 12.06 and Sage's of 12.08.

Oh puh-lease! Now who is taking things too seriously? Just read through your posts again and see how pompous you both sound!

I make challenges when I think there is a reason according to the posted rules. If I'm ultimately proved wrong - fair enough - it won't stop me trying. If I only cared about points and winning do you really think I would risk giving points away so often? How hurt I feel that Sage has punished me by taking away my paltry 5 points - NOT!

Fort - thanks for your explanation. I'll take you up on the whisky, but only if I can buy you a double tequila in return.

Now for goodness sakes, I'm not going to fall out with anybody over something as silly as a game. Maybe I'd better steer clear of the irony for a while, but it's in my nature so you'll have to forgive me if it sneaks in from time to time!

Can we still be friends?

Oh for the love of God! I never said that Swallow Sidecar was made by Jaguar...and I didnīt string the two makes along together either. My entry is whatīs in bold (ie-Swallow Sidecar). Jaguar is in italics underneath it. The only reason I even included it is because thatīs where I found my entry in the first place, in the Jaguar web-pages. Maybe I should have put an a.k.a. before it or something, but I didnīt. It doesnīt matter one bit, though, my "entry" is still good!

Challenges make this game fun and interesting, nit-picking is another matter all together.
---------------------------------------------
Somali--just read your above post. Sorry if I sound so snippy, but I thought you werenīt understanding my previous explanation. LOL

I think we need double shots all around!

Somali - I didn't take away the 5 points as a punishment. I took them away because after rethinking, they weren't warrented, as I stated above.

Also, I have nothing against you. If I didn't like you, I wouldn't invite you into "The Quest". I was serious about you being a good Crusader.

Yes, it is so easy to get carried away with this stuff. It is also hard to read tone of voice and inflection in the typed word. So, EVERYBODY CALM DOWN, TAKE A DRINK AND BELLY UP TO THE BUFFET!!!!!!!
Mama has spoken!!!!!
p.s. Somali, seriously check out the crusade!!! Great Quest!!!

BagLady - your entry for today are both sub-classes and since we are allowing sub-classes now the first one will count , but not the second. They are two different sub-classes of different models.

JoJo - The word "Motors" will not count for score.

Sage...I don't exactly understand what you mean that my entry was two different sub-classes of different models. The sub-classes I entered were from one (1) model Ferrari:

This is the Ferrari 410 Superamerica Superfast (1956)

The top of the morning to you, one and all. What a beautiful crisp sunny day it is here on the Scottish Riviera.

Mama - excellent party last night - just loved the St Bernards' Dance Troupe. Please can I have a refill for the brandy barrel?

Mama and Sage - have looked at a couple of Quest threads and am completely mystified. Never been keen on supernatural beings since that incident at school with the Hobbit. I do like Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" novels - but that's down to his humourous allusions rather than the wizards and barbarian heroes.

BagLady - wouldn't the actual model be the 410 bit? There, now you don't need to worry - any intervention from me will guarantee you get your full points!

[aside] That was a joke, okay?

Let's hope there are no further cases of "American Anaemia" today. The outbreak of British Foot In Mouth Disease is already causing enough problems!

Speaking of cars, little by little I had have my 1970 car competely restored with the exception of a new paint job which I hope to have done in the next couple of months. Anyway, I am getting my little baby car back next month. Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!

The rest of the day to you, Somali!!!! You're on the Scottish Riv, and here I am in the midwest tundra. Took me 90 minutes to make the 15 minute drive to work this morning. Had I known I'd be that late anyway, I wouldn't have left my daughter crying at daycare. I need a huge drink. A little early for me on the hard stuff, though, so I'm starting up the bloody marys. I know you don't want celery, Jojo, and I want extra worcestershire. BagLady just needs an extra shot of vodka I think. How would you like yours, Somali??? I make 'em up special!!!!

Hi Mama - please skip the celery, add a couple of lime slices and go easy on the pepper. I'll be right over!

PS: Thanks for the PM.

Oh Mama Mama - I can't believe you waited for me to go and get a cup of coffee before you posted that! What a giveaway for BL!!LOL

I have a theory. I think the reason BL wins so often is because she follows Mama!

lol, somali.....Nothing could be further from the truth...just ask Mama! There have been weeks when I even sank as low as threatening her with the dreaded wet noodle for either leaving me horrible letters, or not showing up at all! I mean, with the championship at stake, this is very serious business! LOL

Of course I work from home, but Mama has to commute to work in the vast Tundra of Kansas...that can make all the difference! (Although even working at home, I find the infernal nagging of customers on the telephone extremely annoying...downright rude, if you as me! )
