Autumn in Jesmond Dene



Jesmond Dene is a public park in the east end of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It occupies the narrow steep-sided valley of a small stream known as the Ouseburn: in North-east England, such valleys are commonly known as denes.
The park was first laid out by William George Armstrong and his wife, of Jesmond Dene House, during the 1860s. The design is intended to reflect a rural setting, with woodland, crags, waterfalls and pools. It is now owned by Newcastle City Council.

Susie is lovely.

So, it's the first of November, and my neighbour's polar bear Santa has reappeared on his chimney. Guess it's either winter and/or Christmas officially now

Awww. If I ask reeeeally nicely and I'm a good girl, will Santa bring me a couple of puppies (and a fence to house them properly)?

I was in the kitchen this morning making a cup of tea and looked out of the window to see that I had a crop of mushrooms! I won't be eating them though.

Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace), Jaipur. Rajasthan earlier had the purdah system where women were not freely allowed to go out in public. Women from the Royal family watched the processions and other celebrations from this palace which has 953 small windows.

Even though I don't post here often, I do check this thread every day and really enjoy looking at the wonderful pictures you all post

Whew! Grandson's bathtime has just finished for another day.

Auntie, I have to wonder if there was room for your grandson! Looks like he has fun at bath time.

The clouds this afternoon were photogenic anyway, then this big guy from CFB Trenton flew right overhead!

I think Auntie's grandsom might still be in there!

Spanishliz and Tizzabelle, this grandson hated going into the bath, and hair-washing was a big screaming session. I bought a big tub of bath toys; the lid stays closed until the hair is washed and rinsed. Immediate success! Last time he kept asking for more and more toys (he's not allowed to stand up and reach his own) so in mock annoyance I tipped in the whole tubful.
When his baby brother is old enough to share the bath, some toys will have to make way. Obviously.
Tizzabelle, is that flower one of the Everlasting Daisies?

Amazing how rewarding good behaviour works with kids. They don't take long to learn do they? As for the flower.. umm.. I don't know! I took that pic in Dunedin, NZ a few years ago. It was in the hotel's garden so I snapped away with the camera rather than a pair of secateurs We need a Kiwi to identify it I think. For all I now it's an exotic to NZ as well. I just thought it was pretty and I was trying out a new camera.

I seized upon the suggestion of LeoDaVinci in October's Letter "L" thread.
Here's Stage 1 of my attempt at Limoncello. The lemon zest is soaking in the alcohol.
The colour and aroma are leaving the lemon and dissolving into the alcohol, and it smells divine!

Once September arrives in our family, it seems to be nothing BUT birthdays until about December!
My older sister celebrates her birthday tomorrow but we had the usual birthday tea yesterday.

Not something you see very often

Oh, I love ferrets, they're so smart! Though if you handle one of those, watch out for your fingers if it doesn't know you and wash your hands before stroking your cat - cats run a mile from the smell of a ferret.

Which reminds me, so do rabbits. I'm off!

The mulberries are ripening - only a few each day, so I've swathed the tree in bird netting for the duration of harvesting. The CD's swaying in the breeze are supposed to be an added bird deterrent. I'm not really convinced.
