Finding new uses for an arena that can't hold ice any longer - The Festival of Trees!



These are just a few of the many decorated trees that lined the floor, interspersed with local artists selling their wares, things for kids to do and a live band. After the festival the trees were raffled off.

On the back of the 'Occupy Wall Street' protests, one sprang up on College Green in Bristol
recently. It's in a good cause I guess though they could have chosen a better site.

Great shame about Rudi Bob, I missed seeing it last time.

Today's picture tells a story. My photo project this year onwards is taking photos in as many places as possible for the photo mapping site geograph.org.uk, who have a library of the British Isles made from our photos. The green map gets a red square every time you add one, and obviously after a few years you find them harder and harder to get to. As it gets dark at 4pm now it's not impossible to do some as I have this week, but harder and harder till late March. Today there was a small strip of space in Borehamwood I could get to in half an hour, but at 2.30 was almost dark as so much cloud, but pressed on. The camera really couldn't cope though and this sort of garbage was the best it could manage, every parameter was confused and unable to process the pixels properly. But if they're a bit off I still add them as every single photographer can sympathise when that happens.

Oh, yes, in my dim and distant memory is the thought that there was a competition for the creation of a totem pole, run by the parks people. Am I right?

Either this is a photo of goodies for filling advent calenders, or a particular Teddy Bear is going to enjoy a good picnic ...
