Anyway, a topic that was inspired by several members over the last year or so who talk about nothing but BEER !! So, this week's topic goes out to all of them !! LOL

As an old saying goes......

Hmmmm, interesting topic! Not too sure about your example tho'. Does the brewery name get included for points or not? Is it the name of the brewery that starts each entry, or the name of the beer?

eg.
Brewery = Guiness
Beer = Somali's Special Ale
Country = Ireland

Would that be a "G" entry for Guiness or an "S" entry for Somali's Special?

Would I write it out as a). Guiness Somali's Special (Ale) - Ireland or b). Guiness Somali's Special (Ale) - Ireland?

Another thought - with regard to the "You must still be able to buy the beer" rule. As not all of the sites are updated that regularly, will it be OK if the beer is stated as being available in 2001?

To answer Somali's questions....OK...the beer must be available as of 2001.

Taking the example of Guinness. Guinness is a brewery but they have 3 types of guiness....so each one would be acceptable as Guinness (Insert whatever one)
Not all beers have the same name as their brewery.

Plus...I will be posting my entry very late tonight instead of tomorrow morning as it is a bank holiday here in the UK, and I want to have a nice long lie in.....

Now possibly I'm just being slow on the uptake here, but I still don't know if the brewery name is included in the points, or whether the entry has to start with the brewery or the actual beer name! I won't be having a lie-in in the morning so need to know what I'm supposed to follow your entry with.

If the Brewery Name is part of the beer name....then include it for points...BUT..if it isn't...you can still use it but please put it in brackets to show that it will not count for points.

Example -

Guinness Ice - 11 points
(Sypher's) Special Brew - 11 points

Well I'll try my best to follow that!

Monday - Any challenges will not count due to the uncertainty of how to post your entry !!

Look, I know there are no challenges today but WoolDog, You do know you have to start your entry with the last letter of the previous entry. I don't think you entry today follows that rule. Of course, no-one can gain any extra points out of your entry but I thought I would let you know that you will be getting zero for the day as it is totally wrong !! lol

Sypher, not that it's anything new that I'm confused (moi? confused? lol), but I have to disagree with your ruling regarding my entry yesterday. How can it NOT be the 'official' name, when it's right on the bottle label? Just curious.

Also, since you're not allowing types of beer, such as ale, lager, etc., I have to challenge the 'Dopplebock' portion of zozo's entry. Dopplebock is a type of beer; it's a 'Bock beer brewed to higher strength', according to the beer glossary.

As I said...No Foreign Names for what is not allowed....so if Bock is indeed Beer in another language...your challenge is valid !!

So as far as your challenge...Zozo entry is INVALID !!

Oops....I just read the rules posted for this week...I haven't actually stated that the entire entry is invalid if you include the foreign word for beer etc etc. So, looks like Zozo escapes today's challenge on her entry. Zozo will lose points for the last word and Bridelady will get 10 points for her challenge.

That's the fairest thing I can do....come tomorrow....Watch Out....If you include it for points and it is invalid....so will the rest of your entry !!

First of all, Congratulations to Somali on last week´s win. Well done!

Second, great topic! Unfortunately, like Mama, my knowledge lies more with wine & hard alcohol (go figure..LOL). Only two questions...would "Bitter" be classed in the invalid list along with Ale, Lager, etc.? Or is it just an adjective like saying Light, Dark, etc.? Darn..I´ve forgotten the second thing I was going to ask....oh well, will come back later if I think of it.

Just thought of it.

Can an entry start with the name of the brewery? I know that we can´t have the name of the brewery only, but many of these beer´s have the brewery name at the beginning. Should the brewery name go in parentheses, and will it count for points? If this has already been asked, sorry. I´m obviously scatter-brained today. Let me go pick up the pieces...

A 'Bitter' is a traditional style of draft beer in the U.K. It wouldn't be a valid word, as it's like using bock, doppelbock, lager, ale, beer, stout, porter, etc. (Actually, your use of 'tripel' yesterday was not valid either, as it's a Dutch language term for a top-fermenting beer...I didn't see that one until this morning! lol

Also, if I understood Sypher correctly, if the Brewery is part of the beer name, it's o.k. to use it.
