Good catch on the doppelbock BL - I hadn't worked that one out! There seem to be a whole load of words which are descriptive of a type of beer rather than the actual name of one - it's hard to know where to draw the line, isn't it? What about things like "Pale" (no, I'm not challenging you Mama!LOL), "Strong", "Brown", "Premium", "Export" etc ???

Most of the British beers seem to have names of the "double entendre" variety - I wonder why that should be?! LOL

At the most I believe I should only lose points for 'bock' not 'dopplebock'

However the work 'bock' is often followed by the word 'beer' or 'ale' (as in Maibock ale)I think in the USA it is being used as a descriptive term (like bitter,brown, strong etc)

'Bock' is not the German for 'beer'. One source said it came from the town of Eiderbeck and was originally called 'Eiderbeck bier'. Another source said that the word means 'goat' and that a goat appeared on the labels.

I have to take up for Zozo here too - I haver un across many sites today that include Bock as a part of the name apart from the word beer. I'm actually seeing a bunch of these terms that pop up in the names in various ways -
Besides, Zozo's buying the next round, so I'm there.

I would think the descriptive words such as dark, light, premium, imported, etc. would be o.k. I think what Sypher was alluding to was any 'foreign' word which would also mean beer or a type of beer.

Should get a bit more interesting tomorrow when an invalid word if not put in brackets will make your entire entry invalid....so you have been warned because I am sure Somali and Bridelady will be on the lookout.

I'm assuming that the legit web site rule of needing 3 or more sites is what we're all working to, only I can find just one site that invariably tags the brewery name in front of the beer name to make a better scoring entry. I have been making sure I only used this if several other sites used the same configuration to back it up. But I noticed that where you can't find a beer when you do a search for it yourself, you are saying you need just a website as proof the entry is valid. Shouldn't that be 3 or more websites??
