Unbelievable timing. A few hours before this thread started I was driving to work and took this photo while stopped at traffic lights. There is some controlled burning of bushland being done to hopefully prevent a conflagration in summer. Here's the smoke going up into the air over the northern suburbs of Sydney.

Here's something I do with a good friend of mine - we go out to nature, make a fire, them make dinner in this cast-iron pot that cooks the vegetables, rice and usually chicken for us, all on the open fire.

LeoDaVinci, you just described what we call a "camp oven", and many a delicious outdoor meal I've had from one of those!



My kitchen oven flame is insignificant compared to a camp fire, but the food's still OK!

We call it a "Poyke", probably because the vessel is a Poyke Pot, a Boer invention I believe.

If I look hard enough I could find a camp over photo lol. Was thinking of doing a damper today but now it's raining.

This one took me awhile, as I had to wait until I went to my sister's to take a photo of their fireplace. Then I nearly forgot about posting it....

Crude oil being disposed of in the Middle East in the mid 1970s. This was at the time a method of disposing of oil which was unfit for normal processing.

I'm the one in the bottom left corner.

I was woken before 7am the other morning by the noise of a car horn blowing constantly. When
I looked out the window, I saw a car on fire on the other side of the road. It was parked right
outside the owners house & there was a real chance of it spreading. I was left with the option,
take a photo or call the fire brigade. I chose option 2. This is what's left of the car, they've
moved it away from the house now as it seems as if it was an act of arson.
