I've just checked back to the Star Trek site I've been using which states:

quote:
These are lists of starship names from all shows and movies.

Now I'll admit that I know diddly squat about Star Trek - I'm just boldly going forward 'cos I can't find reverse! - but it seems a fairly authoratative sort of site.

and if they are from the movies or TV series....name the film or the episode they had appeared in....I know for sure that Bridelady's entry is invalid...

Eyeball...your entry is Starfleet but Zozo did say in Rule no.1 that they must come from the series or films...Don't give up all hope.

It's nice to give someone else a headache over challenges...I never get the chance to challenge as much as this.

BTW..Somali..you are soo correct, it is upto to Zozo for a final verdict. I'm just teasing you ...

Sypher--there´s no way I´m risking my points when I´ve already freely admitted I know nothing on this subject.

My earlier post was more of a question, and the reason I asked is because I´ve noticed other ship names spelled differently and listed as belonging to more than one fleet. Since I haven´t really had time to explore more than a couple of sites, I didn´t challenge you. But I´d still like Zozo to explain this to me.

Fortunata - My entry is spelt correct but when I was checking Bridelady's entry noticed that my entry does not come from the TV Series or films...so in that respect it is invalid.

Now to answer Eyeball's question. Just like Star Wars which has a massive universe and a overall bible (George Lucas has it) which covers all the time-lines, films, books, computer games....so does Star Trek.

The Star Trek universe is very very big and most sites on the net quote ships that have been mentioned in books, comics, computer games (especially), tv series, cartoons and films. The only way you will know if your entry is correct is by finding a site that states where your entry comes from, whether that be a computer game, an episode from any of the tv series or books. From what I could find at the beginning of the week...a lot of sites don't mention them and when you cross reference several sites you get to find a lot of missing ships which appear on one but not another. The site I have found states where the ships were used and before I made the challenges, I wanted to make sure and check too many sites to care for. Like I said, it was Bridelady's entry that made me search for one as I couldn't find her entry on the three sites I was using and had to go look for more before I finally came across it. That was when it hit me that maybe I was wrong as well as others.
If Zozo wants the site, I will be glad to PM her with it once she asks and she can make up her own mind as to whether my challenges stand. It is her week and her game and I must abide by the rules just like everyone else.

Somali - Of course I want to win...I'm fed up with you or Bridelady winning plus I love Star Trek !!

Psssssst...how about a little PM my way, Sypher love? LOL

Great, now you´ve got me doubting my own list. I´ll have to go and double-check my choices and see if they´re dodgy. I can´t remember if the sites I used stated whether the names were from films/shows or not.

For the record, I´ve got a crush on Spock. I´ve always thought his ears were dreamy...

Well I reckon it's an almighty grey area!

I think that if we can show that we took our entries (in good faith!) from a website that states it lists names from TV or films, then they should be allowed. So there! LOL

This is what happens when you let "Trekkies" out into the community!!

Somali...All I can say is...this is no grey area...Rule No.1 states it must be from the tv series or films. Now, if you are gonna take someone's word for it being there without checking to make sure.....Hmmmm....I thought you would know better...what with being such an expert at Snake (The most wins in such a short space of time)

As Spock would say 'Live long and prosper'

Sorry guys I have only just woken up so I have yet to look after all the challengers. The entries must be 'canon' that is from the TV series, and the nine movies but not the Animated Series, books, computer games, cards etc.

Alot of web sites don't tell you were you got the name from. With my entry yesterday I chose the Enterprise because I was uncertain about another ship.

The official web site for Star Trek isn't much help because they don't list many ships at all.

Star Trek fans are a funny lot. There are fans who study large battlescenes frame by frame to try to get the names of ships. A ship has to only be on film for a fraction of a second to be considered canon.

If you want to prove that your entry is valid I need a website that insists that the source is taken from the series or the movies and/or a ststement from which episode/movie the ship appeared in.

The only other source I will accept is the official Star Trek Technical Manuals and the official Star Trek Encyclopedia as these are considered to by 'canon' because the information comes from Paramount and are written by people who work on the series.

I will look through the challengers now. PM me if you have further infomation.

I believe that Somali's entry (Independence) is correct as I came across this reference -

This is the notorious ship that everyone keeps seeing circling Deep Space Nine. It was constructed as a cousin ship to the Intrepid-not a replacement or refit as many thought.

I gather that this means that the ship is seen in the opening credits

I am having a bit of trouble with the Internet running slow at the college. I have received PM from Sypher, Bridelady and Eyeball concerning there entries.

There has been so much confusion over what is canon or not that the next round of entries can be from any source as so many websites aren't making any distinctions.

However the entries being challenged are under the old rules. I am leaving for home now and will poat my decision within an hour.

I now challenge Pinhead's entry of 'Nightingale' as I quote from a website...

quote:
The USS Nightingale is a Star Trek fan club, administered by fans, for fans

Doesn't actually exist as a Cannon or Non-Cannon !!

It's me again....I challenge Fortunata's entry of 'Expedition'.

This ship is only mentioned in stories....

quote:
As petty conflicts between the allegiances became more common, the Federation needed a system for law enforcement, and more importantly to reestablish the bonds of central government in many areas of the Federation. Their effort became the Sovereign II Class Redevelopment Project, the outcome of which is the USS Expedition, a state-of-the-art starship incorporating the Federation's latest technology and Starfleet's best crew to bring order back to the Federation. The Expedition was launched in 2998 on its mission to save the Federation, but with shifting allegiances among its crew and constantly changing agendas among planetary rulers throughout the Federation, it faces a long and hard future.

I don't think this happened in the TV series or Films !!
Sorry

Well here a go. I have made my decision and probably no-one will be happy (except Somali and maybe Sypher (?)).

I did state that the ship had to be from the screen. It was up to everyone to verify this before their posted the entry. Some people know little about Star Trek but then I know very little about musicals etc.

Because there is a reference stating that the Independence was the ship that circled DS9 I will accept it.

All the other entries are invalid unless you can supply me with an episode or movie title.

Because I did not state in the beginning that the Star Trek Tech Manual was to be a source I dont think I can accept it.

I actually hate to disallow Pinhead's entry of Nightingale as there was a Nightingale but it was not the ship she mentioned. It technically was not a Star Fleet vessel.

What to do about the points as far as Sypher is concerned. He lost points his for an incorrect entry and should have lost points for an unsuccessful challenge of Somali. I have decided to regard his multiple challenge entry as a single challenge so I have given him 30 points for this and his next two challenges. From this his 8 points for his entry has to be deleted. I hope this satisfies you Sypher!!!

Fortunata I believe is lucky that I have overlooked her non-challenge and I hope that next week this will be covered by a rule.
