A Big Thank You to ZoZo for running last week's game, I hope everyone enjoyed it and hopefully someone will volunteer for the next one coming up in 3 weeks.

Please remember this week's game is going to last for 3 weeks as there are so many entries. A default score will be given if you miss out on a day due to the length of this game.

The winner will receive 3 Game points as if it were 3 different games.

Good Luck Everyone !!

A Night At The Opera?! I would have preferred A Day At The Races! LOL

I'll volunteer to run a game in 3 weeks time - if the others think they can stand it (and if I've not been banned by then!). I've got an idea for a game on a subject that I find amusing anyway.

Okey dokey - it will be interesting to see who else is a fan of the topic I have in mind. Of course, if no-one else is, chances are that it will be my last turn as Snakemaster!! LOL

Great topic, Sypher! I know absolutely nothing about it, but it does strike me as fertile ground!!! (P.S. Public television ran a Marx Brothers marathon all weekend - and I guessed this week's topic by Sunday morning!!)
Congrats on your win too. Well done, and you weren't even judging!!!

Looking forward after this topic to what Somali has in stored....hope she has some headache tablets !! hehehehehehe

All caution to the wind with this challenge I think. But what the heck I will have three weeks to make up the points if I lose.

Sypher I am challenging your entry

1)An entry must start with the Surname of the singer

From the look of her name I would say that your opera singer is Icelandic. Icelanders do not have surnames. Her name means she is the daughter of Oskar.

Now a debate on Icelandic names will erupt. Duck everyone it might get nasty.

(of cause my challenge is based on her being Icelandic, the only web site I found on her was in Icelandic)

Zozo....I will send you a website that shows this person as what I have posted. I hate to do it, but this site is magnificant...and it shows this subject could last this long.

Much as I hate to back up Sypher I know he is using the same site as me, which has the name as he has written it. However, for the sake of 10 points, you will at least have been given a very useful site! LOL

Oh goodie. What I need is such an excellent website.

However if she is Icelandic, even if the website does list her under Oskarsdottir, I will charge after you with a copy of AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloging Rules)to further my claims that she does not have a surname and that, if there was a recording by her, it would have to by catalogued under E.

I have to take every chance to put my cataloging skills to use.

I don't know, but for the sake of this web site, I think I'll challenge someone - I'm floundering this week to find the definitive resource on the topic. Watch out, you guys, I'm going to strike when you least expect it!!!!!

WTG Sypher...you've levelled the playing field! LOL

I've noticed also, that particular website sometimes has 2 or 3 different spellings for the same person's name. A little peculiar, but great for Snake!

Sypher--I´m back from my mini-vacation now but don´t know if I´ll be posting tonight. Still have to research this topic. If I did jump in today, how would the scoring work? I´ve already missed two days.

I have looked at the website you sent me and I still believe I have grounds for a challenge. I have no problems with the spelling of the name or the fact that the lady existed/exists. My challenge is based on the fact that, if she is Icelandic, then the only order her name can be written is Elin Osk Oskarsdottir not as Oskarsdottir, Elin Osk. Oskarsdottir is not a surname it is a patronymic and the rule states

1)An entry must start with the Surname of the singer

No mention of patronymics at all

I am really having fun with this one. It is the first time I have been able to put my knowledge of Icelandic culture/tradition to good use during a game of Snake.

Zozo...Since there was no mention of this in the rules, it doesn't mean it is invalid and since I have no idea of Icelandic names and I take your word for it that it is what it is, I have no option but to declare this challenge a 'GREY' area and thus no-one loses or scores extra points !!

BUT....Anymore that come up like my entry, are open for challenges and can be considered fair game !! lol

Fortunata - There is a default score which will be giving to you when you rejoin the game. I knew you were off for a few days so a score has been set for you.
