I have read 2 biographies of Gene Rodenberry and he was pressured to include children in the original Star Trek so younger viewers would have someone to identify with. He resisted and it never happened. Did they wait til he was out of the picture in New Generation or had he lost his power over the franchise by then. I wonder what his feelings were.

PS His life story is fascinating, A bomber pilot in the Pacific, Airline pilot who crashed in Libya, Los Angeles police officer etc.

He wanted tin include Wesley and was the one who literally created TNG - he was never out of the picture on that one. Also, he modeled Wesley after himself as a youngster.

Thanks lady. Maybe he just didn't think children would have fit in the original. I don't think they had families on the first one but STNG did.
