For quite some time now I have been having difficulty remaining signed-in to Fun Trivia. It's frustrating, to say the least, but I haven't been able to trouble-shoot the problem.

I log in, and get brought back to the fun trivia forums main page (still logged in). It's from there onwards that I get disconnected. If I click directly on a topic, or if I click on a category heading, I get brought to the page, but find myself logged out. This is completely random. Sometimes I cannot log in for days on end. Today I spent over half an hour logging myself in, and in again, and in again, both before and after the daily update of the site. Whether I choose the option 'keep me logged in' or not makes no difference. There was no way I was managing to keep logged in. I abandoned the cause.

Without changing any of my settings, nor switching off my computer, two hours later I log in to Fun Trivia, and have no problems whatsoever keeping myself logged in.

Has anybody any idea what may be going on?

A couple quick things you didn't mention. Have you logged out of Funtrivia, cleared your temp internet history/cache and cookies then restarted your browser? What browser are you using, along with version? Do you have any browser add-ons installed? Do you find these issues on any other site, or is it solely Funtrivia?

These are questions that might make it easier for someone to help you.

Well, I'll start by the easy question: No, this only happens on Fun Trivia.

I'm using internet explorer (please don't be too upset with me over it grin, I know there are others which are supposed to be way better, but I'm used to IE, have been using it for years and years, in all it's various guises). As far as I'm aware I have no add-ons installed. Ummm ... where do I click to see what version of IE I'm using?

Yes I've logged out of FT, but the problem recurs, apparantly randomly. As for clearing the temp history and cache? ummm, Whazzat??? I do use 'CC Cleaner' very regularly, and I believe it looks after all that for me?

Do you have to re-enter the username and password to log in, or is it that the username/password always there but you have to keep clicking the Login button?

CCleaner does take care of the cleaning mentioned. By default, it removes the IE items shown here. However, it would be good to preserve the FunTrivia cookie during the cleaning procedure.

* Open CCleaner.
* Go to: 'Options > Cookies'.
* Find the FunTrivia cookie(s) in the left column (Cookies to Delete).
* Use the arrows to transfer it to the right column (Cookies to Keep).

Then you can be sure that CCleaner isn't deleting the cookies. Other reasons for the difficulty could be:

* The computer date (including the year) being incorrectly set.
* Some other security program setting removing the cookie(s).
* An Internet Explorer setting.

Perhaps try adding funtrivia.com to the 'Trusted Sites'.

* Open Internet Explorer.
* Go to the FunTrivia site.
* Go to 'Tools > Internet options'.
* Select the 'Security' tab.
* Select 'Trusted Sites'.
* Click the 'Sites' Button.
* The FuntTrivia URL should be shown the 'Add this website to the zone' box.
* Untick the checkbox that says: 'Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone'.
* Click the 'Add' button.
* Close the dialogue box.

Edit: Resetting Internet Explorer might also provide a cure but look into the above first. It doesn't hurt to have more than one browser installed even though your preference is for Internet Explorer. If all is well when using another browser, then you can be sure that the problem lies with IE. If the second browser behaves in the same way, then you know to start looking for something outside of IE,

Thanks so much for all that! I know what I'll be 'studying' tonight, and I'll let you know how it pans out!

Just to answer the other question you posed: I have to re-enter both my pseudo and my password each time.

Edit: OK I've changed the options in CCCleaner to retain the FT cookies, and that was easy! I also added FT to the list of secure sites (and discovered that I actually had the facility to do that, which I didn't know as I never rummage around any of those tabs on the top of my screen). Techie I am not, but that wasn't painful either.

Fingers crossed that all will be well from now on and that this glitch has gone away!

Fingers crossed it continues, but since adding FT to my safe sites, this problem seems to have cleared up. Thanks for the advice!

That's good. The fact that the username and password needed filling make it sound as if it wouldn't a cookie fault. Those details are stored by the browser (IE), rather than in a cookie placed there by FunTrivia.

Not remembering passwords can be a 'trust' thing. There may be another security setting that could be changed to overcome that but if the 'Trusted Sites' remedy works then that's OK. I think main point would be not to use the option lightly. Only put sites there that you really really trust.
