I'm a big fan of sumo wrestling...so much so that I made a sumo quiz recently! It got me wondering...are there any other sumo fans around these parts? The sport is really fantastic, I can understand why the Japanese are enthralled by it (at least the older generations).

My current favorite wrestler is Kaio. Do you have a favorite?

Perhaps you could give us some info on sumo and where you watch it? I don't think I've ever spotted it on ESPN, FOX or TSN.

I know, I know, you have a quiz where I could probably learn all about it, but I just want to know where, when and how you got hooked on it?!

Well, it started in Taiwan, where I caught Sumo Bashos (tournaments) on a semi-regular basis, all commentating in either Chinese (somewhat confusing) or Japanese (completely confusing). I couldn't help but love the sport right from the get-go. Who could not love a sport that caters to the biggest humans on Earth? After returning to the states several years ago, Sumo was nowhere to be found. Enter ESPN2 last year! They cover the Sumo Bashos every 2 months or so...I don't know the exact dates. It's called 'Sumo Wrestling Digest'. The announcer does a fine job of introducing the viewer to the terminology of the sport, which is nice for the beginner. They replay the Bashos several times and only include the 'important' matches. I've never participated in a match, I suppose my 5' 10", 160 pound frame wouldn't suit me for the sport...but I'd give it a try just to have a go at wearing a Mawashi!
