I have so many favorite books now! They include First Light by Bodie and Brock Thoene, Waterfall by Lisa Tawn Bergren, War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy (of course!), The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, The Land Beyond the Portal by J. S. Bailey, Dolphins Don't Cry by by Shayla Alexander, and many more books! I guess I have a lot of favorites.

One of my favorite childhood books was and is, Black Beauty, A Christmas present from my aunt and uncle.
I loved horses then, even as a small girl, so the treatment the wonderful horse received by uncaring people was very disturbing, and I have never forgotten it. It did help conditions for horses to improve.

I read Gone with the Wind at age 12 (over my mother's objections that I was "too young"). I then read it every
summer for many years. Now I only read it once in a blue moon. I guess I was in love with that book.

I agree with you about Black Beauty I was besotted with it as a child, and still love it.

If I was only allowed to read only one book ever again, it would have to be, "Stranger In A Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. So I guess that makes it my favourite.

Um... My favourite would be either "The Boy With the Striped Pyjamas" or "And Then There Were None". Both were classic.

"Letters from the Earth", by Mark Twain...."Crown of Stars", by James Tiptree Jr... "The Shining", by Stephen King.

Oh, I just caught the second half of the movie of the Boy with the Striped Pyjamas, and said to myself that I must get the book to read the whole story. How did you find it, remote9?

My favorite book is "The Cardinal" by Henry Morton Robinson It´s a novel about the life of a priest since he was in the seminar till he was appointed member of the Holy College of Cardinals. It´s quite interesting to know about priests in the USA and in the Vatican.

My favorite by far is Harry Potter.

I haven't read many Indian authors and not in the original Hindi obviously, but I do love the Stories of N,K.Narayan. Malgudi Days is the book I really enjoyed. He seems to be so true to real people. To me anyway. Do you like him?

Many Indians write books in english too. Yes I have heard a little about that book in my 8th class Civics book which I am reading now. N.K.Narayan was also first dalit president and this book is about real lives. Yes!

My Favorite Books are mostly written by Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam and some of them are:

First of all, I don't really have one favourite book, I have several. I like Lés Miserables by Victor Hugo, Little Women by L.M.A, Elsie Dinsmore Series by Martha Finley, Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis and A Little Princess by Frances Hogson Burnett.

I like Lés Miserables because it is touching and Hugo portrayed the unfairness of life very well. Little Women is nice because I find it is quite like my family (except my dad comes home everyday). Elsie Dinsmore series is about an orphan named Elsie Dinsmore. She is a model child and grows up and have a model family. Some of you might wonder why I like this series; I like this series because everyone in the book is sweet and I wish to be more like her. Chronicles of Narnia is an allegory and I like Lucy the most. A Little Princess is interesting because Sara was a rich girl, then a pauper as her father lost all his money in a investment on a friend... I don't want to spoil this story for those who wish to read it; so I will only say it has a happy ending.

My favorite fiction book is The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. I used to would say Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky until I read The Idiot.

The non-fiction is a little more complicated.

I consider works like

Charismatic Chaos by John MacArthur

Intellectual Morons by Daniel J. Flynn

and Illiberal Education by Dinesh D'Souza

to be so highly informative as to be indispensable. Intellectual Morons is one of the few non-fiction books I've read multiple times, stemming from the days of when I had less than 100 books in my library.

These books are incredible.

But no non-fiction author has stole my heart the way Dostoyevsky did.

I have too many favourite books to list, but with hand on heart, I would choose "Wuthering Heights", I studied this book at GCSE level, so guess that there is a little bit of nostalgia in my choice.

The Social Contract- Rousseau, Two Treatises on Government- Locke, Crime and Punishment- Dostoevsky

"Winnie the Pooh" and "The House at Pooh Corner". I can't read the last chapter aloud because I cry during it.

"Time quake" by Kurt Vonnegut, though, is a little gem. Very short!

"Shane", by Jack Schaefer, is one of my favorites. I read it when I was in elementary school and just fell in love with it. It has a couple of elements that are favorites of mine: male bonding, and seeing the main characters from a third character's perspective. The story is told from the point of view of young Bob Starrett, the son of the farmer Shane comes to work with and support in the conflict between the big ranchers and the homesteaders who are fencing off the land.

I pop into this thread very regularly but can never bring myself to commit in black-and-white to a single favourite (or even a couple of favourite) book/s. I fall in love with so many of my heroes and heroines, and their friends and relations, their circumstances, trials & tribulations, successes and failures... I think I'd feel guilty about all the other great reads that I wouldn't mention
