These are the details for this year's comp: - There are 36 races; the first race is the Daytona 500 on February 26th. The last race is at Homestead on November 18th.
- We pick names for our teams in this competition and the team names can be up to 17 characters, including spaces.
- We will be picking 4 drivers this year for each race and all 4 of those drivers will be starters.
- Slip-streaming rule will be more like it was in the past, which is you can't have the same line-up as any tippers within 5 places behind you in the competition.
- Point Scoring - we receive points for the first 3 of the 4 drivers from our starting lineup to cross the finish line (aka our 4th placed driver is ignored) i.e. we score points for 3 drivers, but we have a "reserve" or 4th driver in our starting lineup.
- The points we receive are the exact same points awarded by NASCAR for a race.
- Default will be the 4 drivers from your team that were in your lineup in the previous week.
- Deadline: Will always be midnight Friday FT time. There's a grace period of 3 or 4 hours, but please don't push your luck past that! Late starters can join by posting their team before midnight on any Friday, and they're in for the next race + all subsequent races. They come in at the rear of the field, on equal points with last.
Drivers & Transfer Windows: Tie-breaker: - in the unlikely event that two or more tipsters finish on equal points at the end of the comp, weekly wins/wooden spoons will be used as a tie breaker e.g. there's a triple dead-heat for 1st place -- player A has 14 weekly wins and 8 wooden spoons (+6) -- player B has 7 weekly wins and no spoons (+7) -- player C has 11 weekly wins and 4 wooden spoons (+7). The podium positions are C-B-A on a count back.
Final Note: - While we are picking drivers for our teams, we are actually picking the car number the drivers are driving. If a driver is suspended for the race or has to leave the race before it's finished for whatever reason and someone else gets in their car to race it, anyone who picked the original driver of the car gets full points for where that car number finished. Last season Kyle Busch was suspended for a race Mike McDowell drove Kyle's #18 car for the race, people who has picked Kyle received the points which McDowell scored while in the #18 car.
illiniman14 is the defending titleholder; he won the 2011 comp. This year's comp is the 8th running of a Nascar comp; Sypher is the only player to have won this twice (and no-one has retained their title). Previous winners: 2001 CarolinaCarol Pling gtho4 2005 Sypher ElfTwinkle silverginger 2006 Howie72 doomed ElfTwinkle 2007 doomed racegirl5 ElfTwinkle 2008 Sypher ElfTwinkle paper_aero 2009 LeoDaVinci Howie72 srini701 2011 illiniman14 George95 gtho4 Anyone interested in relieving illiniman14 of his title, please join the queue .. oops, wrong story line .. please choose a team name and sign in!

Have repaired my cars ...so will attempt to race with you folks (hopefully)...
Team Name: No Brakes (hopefully nobody has this name yet)
Driver 1: Carl Edwards Driver 2: Matt Kenseth Driver 3: Martin Truex Jr. Driver 4: Kasey Kahne
Please let me know if this team is fine or if I need to change/replace anybody (one reason I did not enter last year was because I could not follow all those chase and replacement and point behind rules)

So I am assuming these Chase drivers were from last year. What happens if this year after a few races, all 4 of Ozzz or my drivers are in this Chase? Do we attract the penalty then or because we chose them before the season started, we score the points as at start of season? Or do we have to change drivers the minute they enter this "Chase"?

All week the cars, which were changed to meet the new 2012 NASCAR specifications, have been wrecking with some real hard hits. This adjustment to the NASCAR rules, which was made to stop double car drafting at tracks like Daytona and Talladega by lowering the rear of the car so that pushing car in the draft will overheat much faster, might need another adjustment if these hard hitting wrecks will occur. Whereas NASCARs track record for safety is good, this tweaking of the cars isn't a safe one.
It didn't take long, Lap 2, for someone, rumor has is it was Elliot Sadler, to turn someone else sideways, Jimmie Johnson in this case, leading to a huge chain reaction. This took Sprint car rookie Danica Patrick off the track, Kurt Busch and defending champion Trevor Bayne too, while Johnson and David Ragan were out of the race. Ryan Newman brought out the second caution of the day with a flat tire and while on pit road one of his tires comes off while he was exiting his pit box, which caused him to stop his car and A.J. Almendinger to crash into the back of Newman and head to the garage. It didn't look like a hit worthy of going to the garage but it took Almendinger off the track. Lap 53 starts the green flag pit stops for cars that need bigger adjustments, lap 57 brings some of the bigger names down pit road, which includes teammate and drafting partners Jamie McMurray and Juan Pablo Montoya, the leaders come down on Lap 59. Just after all the drivers made pit stops a caution came out, with Jeff Burton in the lead, for debris on the track, which slowed tonight’s pack racing, broken up by the occasional two car drafting teams which can go a bit longer with a 20 degree lower night race and Danica rejoins the race during the caution. Matt Kenseth though is stuck with water pressure issues, with his gauges fluctuating wildly. Jeff Gordon's engine blows up on Lap 81, taking him out of the race, and Jeff commented on his water pressure gauge not showing him he was in trouble of overheating. The announcers mentioned the gauge issues could be from the cars sitting overnight and moisture being involved. Lap 88 has Marcos Ambrose behind Terry Labonte as Labonte spins out. The Lap 100 mid race bonus went to Martin Truex Jr., who was pushed by Denny Hamlin on the last lap past Greg Biffle, to earn that 200k. Lap 107 has Clint Bowyer, who was complaining about overheating recently, run out of gas while on the track, bringing out a long caution, little did we know what was coming up would make this caution seem speedy, because he was blocked from getting to pit road by passing cars when he went by on fumes. While pit road is closed Jeff Burton was forced onto pit road due to nearly running out of fuel himself, so he chose to take the penalty, rather than run out on the track. Denny Hamlin took control of the early part of the second half of this race. Lap 157 has David Stremme have something mechanical go wrong, causing him to crash and he's out of the race. At this caution Kyle Busch, Tony Stewart and Kasey Kahne are the only three to take four tires on this stop. During the caution Juan Pablo Montoya has something break underneath his car which goes out of control and crashes into the Jet dryer, that is used to dry the track as well as clear debris and is an actual old jet engine, leaving a line of jet fueled flame across the track. Juan Pablo got out of his car and the driver of the truck was helped out quickly. Juan Pablo had complained of a vibration in his car recently. There was over a two hour delay to put out the fire then clean and patch up the track, and a large amount of Tide detergent was used to help the track back into race able condition. The delay was under a red flag, which meant the cars had to stop in order on the track, no fixing or changes to the car. That was unfortunate for Carl Edwards as one of the tear offs were torn off his windshield during the flag, which means he is penalized and has to start at the back of the lead lap drivers. If the race had ended at this point, Dave Blaney would have won, Landon Cassill would have been second, Tony Raines third and David Gilliland fourth. After the restart in lap 177 Aric Almirola gets into Ricky Stenhouse Jr. , Almirola loses some control and cuts off two Casey Mears and Marcos Ambrose, causing them to hit each other and spin into the infield, but are both still drivable. They come out of caution with 19 to go, Joey Logano didn't maintain pace car speed, which usually means trying to save fuel, and was penalized to the back of the lead lap line. Big doings with 13 to go, Jamie McMurray blew a tire mid pack and spun around, spinning the most picked drive by us Kasey Kahne, and both of them hit into a few more cars each. Brad Keselowski, Regan Smith, Carl Edwards and Aric Almirola all took damage, and Almirola was done for the day. The race restarts with 7 laps to go, Kennseth in first, Biffle in second. Four laps to go has Ricky Stenhouse getting into Tony Stewart and then it all goes crazy again, Tony spins out across the track but avoids any real damage, Kyle Busch is in the infield, Ryan Newman takes damage, David Reutimann's day was over, but most drivers avoided serious damage to the car. They go green, white, checkered and Matt Kenseth is able to hold of Dale Jr. to take the win, with a little blocking help from team mate Greg Biffle.
Jimmie Johnson's team was dealt a crushing blow on Wednesday, as they were penalized 25 points, which puts them at a -23 after the first race and crew chief Chad Knaus is suspended for six races for improper modifications to Jimmie's #48 car, which were caught earlier in the week, before any of the races.
We lost 3 teams from last year, but more importantly welcome to, or back to, the competition srini701.
Gtho4 and his Fords dodge all the wrecks and jump out to an early lead taking the HoF this week with 125 points. Howie's drivers had rough days, with early an early accident, a blown engine, another wreck and to top it off his best driver of he week, Clint Bowyer, ran out of fuel at one point while on the track, but fought back for an 11th place finish. All that mess led to Howie taking the wooden spoon this week with 51 points.
Next race is Sunday at Phoenix.
