Of course, I play the violin constantly, and I actually have 3 performances and a private lesson this weekend. [Smile] I also play the piano just for fun...and sing a little. (My mom sings for weddings and stuff part time) What about everyone else? It seems like you all love to listen to music, but do you make your own?

An abbreviated list for anybody who doesn't want to read the big chunk at the bottom:

Piano
Recorder
Flute
Clarinet
Bass clarinet
Oboe
Alto saxophone

I've played the piano for 12 years, and the clarinet for 7 (I consider those to be my "main" instruments). I can play the recorder, but I hate it. [Wink] I just picked one up at a garage sale one summer to amuse myself with at the cottage. I played the flute for a year, and I sometimes pick it up now and then for fun. I also played the oboe for awhile but didn't have the patience to get beyond the "quacking duck" stage. *laugh* A few years ago I tried the alto saxophone and I've stuck with it - I don't think it sounds as nice as a clarinet, but it's fun. [Smile] For a couple of months I tried the trumpet and the trombone, but I'd need lessons in order to play a brass instrument, I think (I'm self-taught in everything but flute. I originally taught myself to read music and play the piano, and then got lessons to improve).

Guess you might have noticed that I (did) perform...quite a bit, at one time...from my post in the Robot thread!

I play guitar (but not much anymore!)...tried banjo, too...tin whistle?...but I always preferred to just sing!

I have an organ in the living room (no comments, please!) with a two-tiered keyboard, which I really did intend to master...when I bought it 18 years ago!

I've been in many musicals...Oliver, Pyjama Game, New Moon, and gave a gallant try at Fiddler on the Roof, but that one didn't reach performance stage...and local drama productions, though I missed the music!

I seemed to have "lost" my drive, over the years...somehow I wasn't just so important, anymore..and I know I've wasted an important part of my own satisfactions for, or because of, others...but...well...that's how it is!

I'm REAL talented! So's jubjub! We used to perform together! Til Life happened....

Too bad...so sad... [Eek!]

Thanks for spilling it, lefois! Okay, lefois and I used to sing together from the time were were small, i.e. kindergarten at which point we told jokes and sang, which was recorded and played at Parent's Night! I "wrote" a song in kindergarten, also, which goes: Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
Fire's on the way
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
I can't wait all day
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
Hurry like a mouse
Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry
I've a burning house!

Welll, I WAS only 5!

I was lead singer in a band for a while, until the new drummer decided he wanted the limelight and I got canned. They asked me back when they saw the error of their ways, but by then I had other fish to fry, so to speak. I was in a few plays, too, in my high school days, and to this day I write poetry (which I will show to no one for the most part - mostly song lyrics) and I've written a few of my own songs, too. No one ever hears them, so what's the point, right? I am my own biggest critic.

lefois and jubjub - the greatest waste of talent of the new millenium!

I can sing any song as long as I know the words and tune. I play clarinet, too.

I play bass-guitar, guitar, and harmonica. In that order. I currently play bass in a local rock and roll band and sing backup. My true love is playing bass in front of a crowded room!! There's nothing else like it!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I play the flute and piano still on a regular basis.
I played saxophone, clarinet, oboe, a bit of guitar.
If I didn't sing, I wouldn't be me.

Does anybody here know the Velvet Underground?

Well, I'm Nico. I can hit a tambourine close to on time and I sing like a man [Wink] !

Except I'm not a skinny little blonde thing with a sexy accent [Frown] ....

I was the kid at school that they gave the xylophone to (ie, the instrument that needs the least skill to play on a basic level [Big Grin] ) Cannot play an instriument. I beleive my calling was the drums, but my Mother wouldn't let me get lessons... [Frown]

I think I can carry a tune, if it's not too high, but that might just be me...? [Razz]

OK, Kristy...I'll believe you! Good for you, girlfriend...You go for it! Honest! THAT'S why you're always touting Velvet Underground in the chains! If "Papa was a Rolling Stone"...AND..."Mama played Bass, Daddy played Tenor"......YOU can be the tambourine for Velvet Underground! Good on ya! -Lea [Wink]

Tanzen...I honestly played the glockenspiel (sp) from Gr. 2 on, for a few years! Wasn't quite IT for me! didn't quite fulfil me! Had a friend in high school who played the kettle drum! Now THAT seemed interesting! One played the huge bass, too, but that was difficult to "take home" for practice over Christmas and such! [Razz]

I think that family of instruments (xylophone, metalaphone, glokenspiel, etc) sound beautiful. And there is a great deal of skill involved in playing professionally.

But I remember we did a class rendition of "Scarborough Fair". Everyone had to learn these tricky little bits for their specific instruments. I had to hit the C and E keys at the same time, once a bar. so it was pretty much "bang..2..3..4..bang..2..3..4..".

And that's the extendt of my musical prowess [Big Grin] [Big Grin] !!

Xylophone/Bells/Glockenspeil- most difficult instrument to play well, Tenor horn most difficult brass instrument to play (after the french horn which after all is not a brass band instrument anyway)-yes I played that after moving from cornet.
Drums/percussion if you've no idea of music you have no chance on percussion!
What was it with music teachers to put people there?.
If you've read my previous comments you'll know I'm no musical genius but I do know when music is being played well!(perfect Pitch No brain/hand co-ordination)

Played a Clarinet and Tenor Sax. I could play Yakety Sax, Stranger on the Shore, Petit Fleur and Wildcat Blues (Monty Sunshine) note perfect. Sold the Sax in the end by popular request. Used to play Clarinet duets with my Dad. He learned to play Clarinet a little especially so we could do that together.

Took up the Guitar and Dad, who played the Banjo Mandolin, also got a guitar and strung it so it equated the Banjo Mandolin. That way he could play a melody line while I did the chords and sung a bit. Always remember 'Little Children' by Billy J. Kramer. There was a complicated little run of notes in it as he sung the phrase 'I wish they would go away'.

Haven't got the Clarinets any more but still strum the Guitar very occasionally.

I've got lots of score sheets of the Group songs of the 60's. They have prices on them such as two shillings and sixpence. Aahh... happy days! [Smile]

I taught myself by ear, to play the drums (that's my most favorite instrument), guitar, bass guitar, and some fill in keyboarding. I have recorded my own songs, in my own studio. Unfortunatly I haven't visited my studio or played any of my instruments for a couple of years. What a waste of money. [Frown]

I have known her for two years and I say, even though she will not agree with me, what a waste of talent not money!

I use to play the clarinet a few years and decided to quit. I can kinda play the harmonica. I currently want to learn the electric guitar. Maybe one year I'll try to, and this time I won't think about quiting.
I don't sing good at all. [Big Grin] I did though make a couple songs. I hope to make a few more and continue to do so. [Smile] [Cool]

I can play the piano! The only songs I have memorized though are "The Arkansas Traveler" and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" I think I've been taking lessons for about two years. Maybe three but I'm not sure. [Big Grin]
