In order of appearance:

Descant recorder
Piano
Bass guitar
Electric guitar
'Classical' guitar

I really want to learn the cello, but students don't typically have enough money for that sort of thing... It would be great to play Bach and Britten's cello suites, although I am learning the Bach ones on the guitar. Maybe I should transcribe the Britten ones...

HI Matve, is the descant the soprano or the sopranino?
I used to have a renaissance group and we'd all switch back and forth, the one that bugs me is the alto! It's in F and it's a pain in the neck to do this switcheroo in your mind.
And then, the bass clef is a pain for many people to read if you do group music, it is a lesson in versality though.

I have played the autoharp, the recorder, the organ, and the ukelele.

The only one I was any good at was the recorder.
I can sing- but not well! My boss and her three daughters can sing beautifully, so I am very intimidated by them.

[Eek!] Wow! I feel truly humbled in the presence of such an array of fine talented folks!!!

I play a mean stereo, does that count??? [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] I can carry a tune as long as it is only me and my hubby in the room, he is the real musician in this family. [Wink]

...Ah yes, I also play the fool! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

(I just stole that from either John or George, and I can't for the life of me remember which one it was!!)

Sounds like a John thing. anyway, I play piano, acoustic and electric guitar, alto saxophone and I write music and lyrics.

I play Piano (not Keys!)
guitar, acoustic mostly
Chapman Stick
recorders (and I agree about the Alto in F...all that transposing, Tenor is my fave)
bagpipes
and I sing: classic'ly trained but I love Stevie Nicks (and Queensr˙che too!). I used to be a 1st Tenor (didn't we all... ) but now my bottom range has opened up so I'm a Baritone, but I still perform Tenor arias (w/ acoustic guitar, La Donna č Mobile is always a crowd favorite).

Grandma was always right.

I agree that that alto recorder is a royal pain, the one thing that was good about it is that from changing fingerings and keys and clefs all that time, I am not such a bad linguist after never having studied languages until the decrepit old age of twenty one!
They say it saved my accent.
The alto is the one recorder that doesn't make sense...tenor is probably my favorite.

I'm going to take the liberty of answering this question not only for myself, but for my siblings (ElfTwinkle-aka "ET" and "?"--can't give out "?"s name yet as we've got a challenge out for the rest of you to find him/her first) as well.

"ET" can play the piano and is not a bad singer. "?" plays the piano and dabbles with the percussion side of musical instruments, and again isn't too bad when it comes to singing.

As for me, I play the piano (or at least used to be able to--it's been a long time since I've touched one since I/we don't really have a place to put one in our house--never was much good a sight reading the piano music though)...my favorite instrument is the flute, of which I do own my own flute and have always been able to sightread any kind of music fairly well on it (also played the piccolo--basically a mini-flute--in school), and occassionally helped out in the percussion end of things in the school bands...as far as my singing abilities I like to sing but lack the talent my siblings have--I'm not too bad as long as I'm not alone/have something (person or recording) to help keep me in tune.

In highschool, all three of us were part of our highschool stage band...this band was quite good--during the years we were part of it we went to the Canadian stage band festival every year, always finishing amongst the top 5 (we took first place honors on 2 occassions) highschool stage bands in Canada. At the same time, we were also part of a stage band made up from members representing all the local highschools---which also did quite well at the Canandian stage band festival (this one entered in a different category from the highschool stagebands.).

I play guitar (have done since I was 10yo), and I used to have a regular gig at a restaurant playing and singing 'dinner music'. Of course, my version of 'dinner music' included Beatles, CCR, Chuck Berry etc, but I stayed there for 2 years so I must have been doing something right (and I worked cheap!).
I eventually was put out of a job by a Karaoke machine that the owners brought back from Hong Kong. The Karaoke worked even cheaper than I did, and didn't ask for a beer during the breaks.

I can play the piano and the cello and I want to learn to play the saxophone.
I remember my cello lessons. I would always sigh, and my teacher would smile and say: "I know learning to play the cello is difficult. But, believe me, there is still one thing worse - learning to play the violin." Is it true, all of you who play the violin?

I play accoustic guitar and some John Hartford style fiddle- which some say is an un-natural union between bluegrass and classical!
