Does anyone know anything about the group Aqua? I just got one of their albums and I was wondering if anyone else listens to them.

I don't necesseraly ( I think might be sic) buy aqua CD's. I've heard that about 6 or 5 years ago they had the barbie girl song...I'm a barbie girl...in a barbie world...You might know the rest. I'm not sure how popular they are now.

My son does! I find them pretty funny. The Barbie song is really a funny send up.

Aren't they Swedish?

YES! I know Aqua! About five years ago my daughter, and everyone else, drove me CRAZY with that durned BARBIE song! I hesitated to answer because I have absolutely NO IDEA what happened to the group, if they're still around or what.

Just as an aside...I do remember about three years ago at my elementary school, there was a lip sync contest for the students. We don't do that sort of thing much, but there was a lot of interest, especially with the girls in grade 4 and 5.

One mother called, all frantic-like, because her daughter's friends were planning to perform "I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie wooooorrrrrllldddd...Anticipation..."...whatever..

Of all the things that were on CD or on the radio at that time, I didn't quite GET it...the complaint, I mean.

If I really think deep (and that's not easy for me) perhaps the stereotyping??? or maybe the "Let's go Barbie, Let's go Barbie...oooh oooh oooh oooh..."

Lefois, do you think the objection might have been about the 'undress me anywhere' bit ? (hahahah).

I love Aqua, LilSpikey. I love their song: 'Turn Back Time' which I think was used in the film: 'Sliding Doors'. It's one of their more serious songs.

I loved the Barbie song - the fact that they made fun of it all and got sued by the Barbie company (Mattel?). I also liked Doctor Jones and Cartoon Heroes.

Hum... I have Aqua'a album "Aquarius". Before that, I loved the song "Barbie Girl", but that was back then. I heard the group doesn't exist anymore. That's what they said on radio some weeks ago.

Aqua is no longer a band, but I have some friends who have the CD and they love it, so it must be really good...

I got Aqua's first CD and then I got the second about a week later. The second one is very good, with their style of comical music and creative sound effects, like the buzzing bees sound in Bumble Bees, and the districtive drum in Cartoon Heroes. The first CD is Aquarium, which has Barbie Girl, and the second is Aquarius.
