Somehow it doesn't have a ring to it but Mick Jagger is to be knighted.

The ' Stones have been one of my top groups ever since I heard 'Not fade away'. Seeing them play live at Wembly, and getting a spot close to the stage, was a high spot in my life. They had young and old all dancing on the spot by the end of the evening.

Obviously then, Mick Jagger is a 'musical great' for me. Even so, the thought of 'Sir Mick' makes me smile (it probably does him too!). On the face of it, a less likely knight perhaps cannot be thought of.

However, if knighthoods are to be given to those of outstanding achievement then Mick Jagger qualifies in my book. Rolling Stones music has been appreciated by millions of people for many years. If Paul McCartney got a knighthood then why not Mick Jagger too? Count me as a 'yes' vote.

Well said Tellywellies - I endorse everything you've said. In my book there is no other singer (of any age) with a stage presence and performance quite like Mick. Bring on the next tour I say!!

Well he's already got the castle, or castles is it?
Always wondered if George Harrison would have accepted it, I doubt that very much. Don't think John would have either!
Why did Paul get it instead of the others?
Was it for something in addition to being a Beatle?
Ringo? Poor lad, I've always had a fond spot for him, and when he did the Thomas the Tank Engine thing people made fun of him being a has-been, and I thought, "well why shouldn't he give some pleasure to children? I think it's wonderful!"

How does a performer become knighted anyhow?

I have to agree with Bruyere on this one, My Rolling Stones Fan Club membership number was less than 100, fan from day one and had their first record release "Come On". (Not a Beatles Fan - thought their singles to be ordinary! Have changed my mind a little since then on some of the songs/lyrics)
Five members of the band - why should one be honoured and not the others, the "musicians" have been left out again.
Where would Cliff Richard be without the Shadows or Elton John be without the Session band/orchestra's.

I think Sir Richard, Sir Elton and Sir Paul got their gongs for their charity work in addition to their music.

Perhaps it's for his acting career....

Anyway, it's been a very long time since The Stones were even vaguely dangerous, so why the hell not give the man a gong? It's basically a badge that says "I love the Queen and the state". Not suitable for rebels, but then Mick ain't no rebel no more!
