One Tree Hill - U2 New York State of Mind - Billy Joel Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve Emotional Rescue - Rolling Stones Everybody's Got Something to Hide (except for me and my monkey) - The Beatles Here Comes the Rain Again - Eurythmics Waiting for The Man - David Bowie... (much better than Lou Reed's version) okay... seven is enough for now...

Malizma, the Living years? That is one of the saddest songs ever!Did you listen to the lyrics? "Every generation blames the one before. All of their frustrations come beating on your door. I know that I'm a prisoner to all my father held so dear. I know that I'm a hostage to all his hopes and fears. I just wish I could have told him in the living years. Crumpled bits of paper filled with imperfect thoughts. Stilted conversations I'm afraid that's all it was. You say you just don't see it, he say it's perfect sense. You just can't get agreement in this perfect tense. We all talk a different language. Talk it in defense. Say it loud say it clear you can listen as well as you hear. It's too late when we die to admit we don't see eye to eye. So we open up a crawl room between the present and the past. We only sacrifice the future it's the bitterness that lasts. I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away. I didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say. Think I caught his spirit later that same year. I'm sure I heard his echo in my baby's newborn tears. I just wish I could have told him in the living years." Need I say more? Yep, Annie, I know the lyrics very well. I love the song because it is also a reminder of the preciousness of life. Mike and the Mechanics is my favorite rock band because they are deeper than most. It may seem strange that I chose it as one of my favorites, but it is. It made me aware of pecious love and time. Sometimes sad songs can do that. That is why I said, these songs evoke varying emotions and have stayed with me all these years. I am not a depressing person by any means. In fact I'm known fo being very happy. That song just hit me over the head the first time I heard it and I have never stopped loving it, It also brought my father and I closer even though we never fought. THere is a lot of personal feelings there.

Hi there everyone. My favourite three would have to be: Scarlet - The Adventures - because it's so haunting The Way - Fastball - because I love the rhythm and it always makes me want to dance High Hopes - Shed Seven - because it inspires me to get up and do things (and no, it's not the song High Hopes that mentions rubber-tree plants!)

Malizma, I guess the reason I have such difficutly with this song is because of the circumstance under which I was introduced to it. My son said to me one day, "listen to this song mom, and maybe you can understand a little how I feel." My father died when he was in his late 50's. I feel like I got cheated, yeah, but I still had quite a few years with him. My boys' father died when he was in his 30's. They got along pretty well, the boys and their dad, but as my then 14 year old said, "I didn't get to tell him all things I wanted to." I didn't know what to say. He then went on to take out his revenge on this adversity that had befallen him in a personal way. The target of all this anger and pain was, of course, himself. He got involved in drugs etc. That said, this is a painful song for me personally. And so I can't possibly see how someone would consider it a favorite. For you it has good feelings. I hate it.

annie- I can understand why you hate it. I guess that's why everyone is different. That's what makes music what it is. It is there to evoke diffrent empoions in all of us. I don't like "Friends in Low Places" yet other people love it. I have no problem with criticism or the fact that you don't like it, that's why I said no apology necessary. Thank you for your explanation, I can understand why it would be difficult to listen to for you. YOu sound like you're a very strong person. THere's lots of good music out there. You just have to find what works for you !! God Bless Malizma

Serena: no offence, but liking a song based on the lead singer's being hot makes you look very shallow. How about liking it because it's a damn good song that rocks out loud?

Master of Puppets by Metallica is one of the best songs ever written. I don't know of any other band who plays that fast for that long (220 beats per minute and 8:36 is how long it is)

Magic Every Moment-Dan Fogelberg: Really positive message from someone who is often more sullen in tone. Beggar On A Beach of Gold: Mike and the Mechanics- an upbeat song about life and being grateful for what you got. Wait A Little While: Kenny Loggins, picks me up on bad days First Circle: Pat Metheny Group-incredible jazz piece The Living Years: Mike and the Mechanics-Anniedt hates this piece but my reasons are very personal. Reminds me that I am blessed to have a father who loves me. Still Crazy After All These Years-Paul Simon, my theme song on many days

House of Pain by Faster Pussycat- It was the first time I realized it was ok to not have your parents in your life Anna Begins by Counting Crows- It's just beautifuly written and it has the best lines ever. Sunflowers by Everclear- No reason, I just like it. Indie

Hmmm....right now I'm pretty hooked on "In Pace" and "Figlio Perduto" by Sarah Brightman. Oh, and I'm lovin' "Get Another Boyfriend" by the Backstreet Boys (lest you think I'm a snob). Ooh, "With or Without You" by U2 is one of my all-time favorites too!
