Personally I dont' like boy bands because they don't write their own music and most of them don't even play an insturment, two things I consider critical parts of being in a band. Plus the songs for the most part are way to sticky-sweet for me. Just my 2 cents.

You are right there Redback. Does Cal likes them or not?  Well, I'm not a fan of any boysband, but it depends a lot on the songs they fire in to the charts. To me, most of them are just a sort of wallpaper to fill the radio programs. Nevertheless some songs aren't that bad. But not worth to buy a CD or CD single of it  Tom PS. Which boysband member of what group has a relationship with Elton John? lol

The best thing about boybands is that they dissappear as quickly as they came... Don't buy this crap, because when you're grown up you will regret ever buying them and the 'music' will not stand the time... Erwin

I am not a boys band fan. I like my music with a bit more grit to it. I ws like this even when some of the teen idols were hot in my day. I am also not a disco fan. I'm a little old for going gaga over NSync and Backstreet Boys. I am more of a Styx, Eagles, Mike and the Mechanics, Genesis type.

There was a time, not so long ago, that gay was a very positive word. Gay as in happy etc, and I have to complain at the missuse of this word. That said, boy bands are fundamentally totally gay. I can't think of any who's songs I've liked, unless you count The Monkees, which I don't.
Unfortunately, this is the current pop music scene, and I don't see it changing in a great hurry. Some people listen to appalling music, watch terrible TV, dress badly and have a bad sense of humour. That's just the way it is.

Why not throw my neck on the line? I've liked most music from 'NSync, BSB, 98degrees, &c. Not all their songs, but a good percent. I don't care for the bands themselves. I find them interchangeable, and I'd probably like the songs just as much if they were sung by totally different people. What I like is the style and use of harmony... especially in BSB where each of the guys has a very distinct voice & style. I know a lot of you don't agree with me, and I'm inclined to agree with you in some areas. I think they're way more popular than their music (or just their singing) deserves. I think it's kinda ridiculous that most of their popularity comes from teenage girls trampling over each other to get tickets to their concerts and sighing over "how cute they are!!!"   So yes, for the most part, I like boy bands. Please spare me your projectile weapons

Fair play Lady C, all music is valid, but I hate the manufactured nature of boy bands and the fact that at these auditions, talent in a musical sense seems to count for little. Do you think that if NSync, Backstreet Boys, Steps, etc had have been fifty, grey haired with beer guts they'd ever get a record deal? No way! They get record deals solely on the basis of "are they attractive to pubescent girls?" In a studio you can make anyone's voice sound good and the mediocre drivel they produce (ever heared a song from a manufactured pop band or a silicone enhanced Britney-a-like with a word of more than two syllables?) is written for them. Its unfortunate that these preppy drips are taking up resources and exposure that people with talent could better use. But still, its not a new thing and it won't stop happening. Anyone remember The Mock Turtles? According to the story (and I believe its true), an A&R bloke went into a pub and bet one of his mates that he could take four people in the pub and get them into the top 20. Sadly, it happened. cool...I agree with both sides. who am I to deny some kids a money making scheme? besides, the under 30 people is what predominantly drives the music market gotta go with the almighty dollar... and what's all this hate/gay stuff...can't we all just get along? sniff...sniff...<gasp>

i like 'nsync. i'm sorry if no one else likes them, but I do. i like 'nsync because they're not like other boybands, they have lives outside their music. Justin and J.C. write some lyrics for their songs, Lance and Joey are staring in a movie that they came up with, and Cris has his own clothing line, Fu-Man Skeeto. so try to lay off them, okay? I find the word "boyband" very annoying. If they don't play their own music, they are not a "band", more like a dancing choir.  Without a "crunching" guitar and awesome drums-forget it!

LOL To be fair, lots of artists have backup bands to play the music while they sing; it's not so uncommon. As for the dancing.... I don't watch MTV or MuchMusic (MM is like MTV only broadcast from Toronto) so I can't vouch for their dancing abiltity. *G*
