I don't know about song but the most romantic line is from Bryan Adams' "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?" : When you can see your unborn children in her eyes. I just love that. Sara Evans tried a somewhat similar line in one of her songs but as much as I love her, she just didn't pull it off. But Bryan did.

I'll put up another vote for Dave Matthews Band, Crash Into Me.

But for one that hasn't yet been mentioned, how about Jethro Tull's Wond'ring Aloud? So short, simple, lovely. Played it at my wedding.

Wond'ring aloud
how we feel today.
Last night sipped the sunset
my hands in her hair.
We are our own saviours
as we start both our hearts beating life
into each other.

Wond'ring aloud
will the years treat us well.
As she floats in the kitchen,
I'm tasting the smell
of toast as the butter runs.
Then she comes, spilling crumbs on the bed
and I shake my head.
And it's only the giving
that makes you what you are.

I also love Simon and Garfunkel's For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her. Another short and lovely song.

What I dream I had:
Pressed in organdy;
Clothed in crinoline of smoky Burgundy;
Softer than the rain.
I wandered empty streets
Down past the shop displays.
I heard cathedral bells
Tripping down the alley ways
As I walked on.
And when you ran to me
Your cheeks flushed with the night.
We walked on frosted fields of juniper and lamplight
I held your hand.
And when I awoke and felt you warm and near
I kissed your honey hair with my grateful tears.
Oh I love you, girl.
Oh, I love you.

And from the Beatles, Norwegian Wood, hands down!

The first song that comes into my mind is "Scientist" (Coldplay). Although the title doesn't seem romantic in the least, it's a very sweet, poetic song, and I think it perfectly describes that strange feeling called "love".

"In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel is, to me, the most romantic song ever.

One of the most romantic songs in recent times, I think, is "Kiss By A Rose" sung by Seal; it debuted in the "Batman Forever" movie. Its haunting melody is romantic without being sugary or maudlin, unlike many others.

I,m inclined to agree with Eraserhead,"Have I told you lately" is a really romantic song, though Rod Stewarts version on his unplugged album is my favourite. Its difficult to pick just one song but "No ordinary love" by Sade is my choice.

"Kiss By A Rose" was the first song I ever slow danced to, and it was with my very first boyfriend who I've known since kindergarten. (Talk about romantic!) Anyway, I still know him and we even work together at a grocery store, and that song comes on over the PA sometimes. I wonder if he remembers it.

There's already been a few mentions of Jeff Buckley, but I'd like to put in for "So Real"...that's always been my favourite...

One's choices often reflect one's age. I was happy to see a good classical selection as well as a show tune or two. Likewise, being old enough to remember the sophisticated "At Last" by Etta James, and the lush "True Love Ways", one of Buddy Holly's very last songs, I was gratified to see them both remembered here. From that era, allow me to contribute my own entry..."This I Swear is True" by the Skyliners (whose great "Since I Don't Have You", has often been covered by others since, but never remotely duplicated).

I've given this one a lot of thought and I have two songs that I've been struggling with. I see that both have been chosen by others (excellent, by the way), but I can't choose just one. It has to be both:

Wicked Game - Chris Isaak
In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel

Another very romantic song is "She", by Elvis Costello. Such a beautiful song.

A fine choice, Tanzen.

"O we will know, won't we?
The stars will explode in the sky
O but they don't, do they?
Stars have their moment and then they die"

Heartbreaking, and truly romantic.

I agree about Lamb's 'Gorecki', lovely song. I'm also quite fond of 'Closer' by Nine Inch Nails, but maybe that's not exactly romantic as such...

Thanks SFA...nice to see you back too

It really is a beautiful song, "All down my veins, my heartstrings call, are you the one that I've been waiting for?"

*swoon*

(PS emj23, I always thought that Closer was romantic, but then I've always wanted "White Wedding" by Billy Idol and "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" by Meatloaf played at my wedding )

I had this one at my wedding...

I Believe in You and Me - The Four Tops

I believe in you and me
I believe that we will be
In love eternally
Well as far as I can see
You will always be the one for me
Oh yes you will

I believe in dreams again
I believe that love will never end
And like the river finds the sea
I was lost
Now I'm free
I believe in you and me

I will never leave your side
I will never hurt your pride
When all the chips are down
I will always be around
Just to be right where you are
My love oh I love you girl

I will never leave out
I will always let you in
To places no one's ever been
Deep inside
Cant you see
That I believe in you and me
But maybe I'm a fool
To feel the way I do
But I will play the fool forever
Just to be with you forever

I believe in miracles
Love's a miracle
And maybe you're a dream come true
I was lost now I'm free
I believe in you and me

I was lost now I'm free
I believe in you and me

*****************************

This song was also done by Whitney Houston in The Preacher's Wife, but I prefer The Four Tops version.
