tanzen,
I really believe you and I are cut from the same cloth. I so would have played "Closer" at my wedding.
Counting Crows does a rarity called "We're Only Love" that is very romantic. It's not romantic in the typical sense, it's what passes for romantic in Adam's world.

Well, considering the children and stuff that will be running around at my wedding (on the rare chance that some boy loses his mind and decides to marry me ), Closer might be a bit of a big call... ...we'd just have to save it for later, I suppose...

Yes, I suppose that would be a bit much. It's more of an after wedding song anyway.
My old boss and his wife chose a Nine Inch Nails song for their wedding song. Nobody seemed to mind much.

Well as much as we don't like to admit it, weddings are just as much for your family and friends as they are for you... ...I only know this because my mother would kill me if I had a wedding that didn't involve my million or so relatives

You have one of those too? My gram is the same way. Our wedding would have been huge had we not married at the JP's office. Apparently every person I've known since birth should be invited to such events.

We regretted having a church wedding because my parents showed up. I requested "Imperial March" be played because I love that song so much. My now wife beat the daylights out of me for suggesting it. Something about being associated with Lord Vader that upset her. I don't know why, he did kill Emperor Palpatine so was a good guy.

More NIN than just Closer was played at my reception, but we stuck to Jethro Tull and Pachabel for our actual wedding music... And Battle, if I had actually HAD a wedding with my current husband (we married at the county court when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with our daughter. YIPPEE! I highly recommend it!) I don't doubt he'd have suggested that song, and I may have gone ahead and let him do it. At my wedding, which was to my first husband, I did a lot of unconventional things, and it turned out beautifully. If I ever have another wedding, (which would only be to renew my vows, because this hubby I've got now is DEFINITELY a keeper!) I'll be sure to keep on that unconventional theme, and Cory is more than welcome to contribute, as long as I'm not dressed in a metal bikini while walking down the aisle.
Besides the two I mentioned earlier, and quite a few on peoples' lists since then (Bob Seger!!), how about some Billy Joel? A little-known song called "While the Night is Still Young" springs to mind. I LOVE that song. Makes me want to snuggle up close to my husband and get all kissy, EVERY time! It seems strange to me that all my favorite romantic songs are nearly as old as or older than I am, and I can't really think of any from music that came out while I was growing up.

How can anyone not be moved by Fields of Gold. The best versions are by Eva Cassidy and Sting.
You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we walk in fields of gold
So she took her love For to gaze awhile Upon the fields of barley In his arms she fell as her hair came down Among the fields of gold Will you stay with me, will you be my love Among the fields of barley We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky As we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so Upon the fields of barley Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly And there have been some that I've broken But I swear in the days still left We'll walk in fields of gold We'll walk in fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days Among the fields of barley See the children run as the sun goes down Among the fields of gold You'll remember me when the west wind moves Upon the fields of barley You can tell the sun in his jealous sky When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold When we walked in fields of gold
Such a great song.

Dear Lothruin of the Cornhuskers,
Not to jump off thread, but I strongly suggest you don't formly renew you vows in a church wedding.
At Zoeverdandi and my wedding, several uncouth uninvited guests showed up like my brother, my mother, and my father. I actually had our maid of honor tell my father what do and it wasn't to be quiet.
If you do renew your vows, I strongly urge a nice romantic beach in Cancun or Nassau.
Personally, at our wedding I would've much prefered Zoe to have been 8.5 months pregnant because that means we would've had a child.
There's a reason why every stray cat or dog looks at us and says "Hi suckers! I mean...Hi Mommy and Daddy!".
And our legal wedding was at the courthouse for insurance purposes a month before the celebrated one.
My favorite romantic song is "One More Minute" by Weird Al.
Well, I heard that you're leavin', Gonna leave me far behind, 'Cause you found a brand new lover, You decided that I'm not your kind, So I pulled your name out of my Rolodex, And I tore all your pictures in two, And I burned down the malt shop where we used to go, Just because it reminds me of you.
That's right, you ain't gonna see me cryin'. I'm glad that you found somebody new, 'Cause I'd rather spend eternity eating shards of broken glass, Than spend one more minute with you.
I guess I might seem kinda bitter. You got me feelin' down in the dumps. 'Cause I'm stranded all alone in the Gas Station of Love, And I have to use the self-service pumps!
Oh, so honey, let me help you with that suitcase. You ain't gonna break my heart in two. 'Cause I'd rather get a hundred thousand paper cuts on my face, Than spend one more minute with you.
I'd rather rip out my intestines with a fork, Than watch you going out with other men. I'd rather slam my fingers in a door, Again and again and again and again and again.
Aw, can't you see what I'm tryin' to say, darlin'.
I'd rather have my blood sucked out by leeches, Shove an ice pick under a toenail or two. I'd rather clean all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue, Than spend one more minute with you.
Yes, I'd rather jump naked on a huge pile of thumbtacks, Or stick my nostrils together with Krazy Glue. I'd rather dive into a swimming pool filled with double-edged razor blades, Than spend one more minute with you.
I'd rather rip my heart right out of my rib cage with my bare hands and then throw it on the floor and stomp on it till I die... Than spend one more minute with you.
Yep, nothin' say lovin than cleaning all the bathrooms in Grand Central Station with my tongue .
How romantic!

This is a most interesting thread and the songs named are very cool. But I've resisted naming my most romantic song because it was so odd, but it and I have a history. So, OK, I'll just say it: "You Can Leave Your Hat On" (The Joe Cocker version)! I always wear hats of some sort (usually baseball) and my long-term girlfriend of years ago, when we were heading out the door, would alert me if I didn't have one on. Many a quarter was spent hearing that song if a jukebox was handy. And many an arched eyebrow from fellow customers in the place as they couldn't understand how we two, we happy few, could really find that song romantic! . Two others mentioned that I like a lot in the romantic department were "Kiss From A Rose" and "Crazy" (I think that latter one was mentioned earlier..but am not sure. Anyway, it's mentioned now. Gotta love Patsy ).

I think that 'Truly madly deeply' by Savage Garden is the most romantic song, Bryan Adams 'Everything I do' and almost anything by Westlife but mainly 'Flying without wings' are also very romantic.

Another very romantic song I've just listened to: "If I needed You", sung by Van Zandt Townes and also Lyle Lovett. Beautiful song.

"All The Time in the World" was originally by Louis Armstrong, the great Satchmo himself, the Fun Lovin Criminals' version is fabulous.
We had "Perfect Love Song" by the Divine Comedy at our wedding:
Give me your love And I'll give you the perfect lovesong With a divine Beatles bassline And a big old Beach Boys sound I'll match you pound for pound Like heavy-weights in the final round We'll hold on to each other So we don't fall down
Give me a wink And I'll give you what I think you're after With just one kiss I will whisk you away To where angels often tread We'll paint this planet red We'll stumble back to our hotel bed And make love to each other 'Til we're half dead
Maybe now you can see Just what you mean to me
Give me your love And I'll give you the perfect lovesong Give me your word That you'll be true to me always come what may Forever and a day No matter what other people may say We'll hold on to each other 'Til we're old and grey
But the one that has me in tears EVERY single time is "Love of My Life" by Queen, it's my husband's favourite and says it all for me.

The most romantic song for me and my Boyfriend have got to be Kiss from a rose by seal.
When we first started going out we looed out across the courtyard in College and it was full of snow and he said that I remind him of one his fave songs (KFAR) esp the line "when it snows, My eyes become large and The light that you shine can be seen"
When we had a little argument I changed my MSN screan name to "You remain, My power, my pleasure, my pain," and then he changed his to "To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny" and I knew it was gonna be ok. We want the song to be played at our wedding. However we dont yet know how you can dance to it lol... any ideas PM me lol?

I've found a new one. It's not romantic in the conventional sense of the word, but it's romantic to me. If Mr. Indie and I ever do get around to that handfasting we've been talking about, this is the song we'll use:
"Oh girl we are the same we are young and lost and so afraid there's no cure for the pain no shelter from the rain All our prayers seem to fail
In joy and sorrow my home's in your arms in world so hollow it is breaking my heart in joy and sorrow my home's in your amrs in world so hollow it is breaking my heart
Oh girl we are the same we are strong and blessed and so brave with souls to be saved and faith regained all our tears wipe away
In joy and sorrow my home's in your arms in world so hollow it is breaking my heart in joy and sorrow my home's in your arms in world so hollow it is breaking my heart
In joy and sorrow my home's in your arms in world so hollow it is breaking my heart in joy and sorrow my home's in your arms in world so hollow it is breaking my heart
and my home's in your arms and it is breaking my heart my home's in your arms and it is breaking my heart"
"In Joy and Sorrow" HIM

I thought of another one "Thank you for loving me" by Mr Bon Jovi Quote:
It's hard for me to say the things I want to say sometimes There's no one here but you and me And that broken old street light Lock the doors We'll leave the world outside All I've got to give to you Are these five words tonight
[Chorus:] Thank you for loving me For being my eyes When I couldn't see For parting my lips When I couldn't breathe Thank you for loving me Thank you for loving me
I never knew I had a dream Until that dream was you When I look into your eyes The sky's a different blue Cross my heart I wear no disguise If I tried, you'd make believe That you believed my lies
[Chorus:] Thank you for loving me For being my eyes When I couldn't see For parting my lips When I couldn't breathe Thank you for loving me
You pick me up when I fall down You ring the bell before they count me out If I was drowning you would part the sea And risk your own life to rescue me
[Solo]
Lock the doors We'll leave the world outside All I've got to give to you Are these five words tonight
[Chorus:] Thank you for loving me For being my eyes When I couldn't see You parted my lips When I couldn't breathe Thank you for loving me
When I couldn't fly Oh, you gave me wings You parted my lips When I couldn't breathe Thank you for loving me
<gets tears in her eyes> It's so sweet

One of my favourites is Billy Joel's "All About Soul". The best lines are:
She turns to me sometimes and asks me what I'm dreaming And I realize I must have gone a million miles away And I ask her how she knew to reach out for me that moment And she smiles because it's understood there are no words to say.
And then of course the chorus:
It's all about soul It's all about faith and a deeper devotion It's all about soul 'Cause under the love is a stronger emotion She's got to be strong 'Cause so many things getting out of control Should drive her away So why does she stay? It's all about soul
Awww... this song always gives me back my faith in love

I put off naming my favourite too, Gatsby. I have read the whole thread again today, and I must admit there are some great ones here. Mine still after all that remains : "You'll Never Know" Darling, I’m so blue without you I think about you the live-long day When you ask me if I’m lonely Then I only have this to say
You’ll never know just how much I miss you You’ll never know just how much I care And if I tried, I still couldn’t hide my love for you You ought to know, for haven’t I told you so A million or more times?
You went away and my heart went with you I speak your name in my ev’ry prayer If there is some other way to prove that I love you I swear I don’t know how You’ll never know if you don’t know now
You’ll never know just how much I miss you You’ll never know just how much I care You said good-bye, no stars in the sky refuse to shine Take it from me, it’s no fun to be alone With moonlight and memories

I've got two all time favorites. This one is a portion of Leon Russell's A Song For You. I have heard my old friend perform this in person more times than I can remember and it still says everything for me. I was in junior high the first time I heard him play it out at Mohawk Park.
I love you in a place where there's no space and time- I love you for in my life, you are a friend of mine. And when my life is over, remember when we were together We were alone and I was singin this song for you.
The other one is a long-time JT favorite from about the same time period -
Well, the sun is surely sinking down, but the moon is slowly rising And this old world must still be spinnin around And I still love you. So close your eyes. You can close your eyes -it's alright. Well, I don't know no love songs. and I can't sing the blues anymore. But I can sing this song. And you can sing this song when I'm gone. Well, it won't be long before the break of day. We're gonna have a good time. And no one's gonna take that time away. You can stay as long as you like...

Wowza! I love that Leon Russell song, too. And JT? He makes a mud puddle a romantic thing! One of my all-time favorites in whatever he sings. Anyone ever hear of Jane Oliver? She has that knack, too: 'Don't work too hard. Just sing it and feel it'.

Okay, this song is not really "romantic", but I love it anyway It is by Adam Sandler and is featured in one of his movies (I think is was "The Wedding Singer", but I'm not sure) I wanna Grow Old With You I wanna make you smile whenever you're sad. Carry you around when your arthritis is bad. all i wanna do, is grow old with you. I'll get you medicine when your tummy aches. Build you a fire if the furnace breaks So, it could be so nice growing old with you,.... I'll miss you Kiss you Give you my coat when you are cold Need you Feed you Even let you hold the remote control. So let me do the dishes in our kitchen sink. Put you to bed when you've had too much to drink. Oh I could be the man that grows old with you. I wanna grow old with you.
