Neat idea Copago.

Viva Las Vegas is by Elvis Presley. (just to fill in your blank)

You must have heard these. Tanzen and I used them in a song chain...
On the Road to Gundagai
Nine Miles from Gundagai

a few official state songs from the U.S.A. -
Blue Moon of Kentucky - Bill Monroe
Georgia On My Mind - Willie Nelson
My Old Kentucky Home - Stephen Foster
Tennessee Waltz - Patsy Cline
Carry Me Back to Old Virginia - James Bland
Oklahoma - (yes, the Rogers and Hammerstein one)

and, of course...
On Wisconsin
"On Wisconsin" is not only the University "fight song," but it has also been designated as the official State Song of Wisconsin. It is undoubtedly one of the most popular school songs in the country and has been adopted by thousands of high school bands as their own. It is rare to attend a high school football game anywhere in the U.S. and not hear "On Wisconsin" being performed by at least one of the school bands. The melody of this famous song was composed in 1909 by W.T. Purdy, a corporation clerk who prior to that time had never set foot in Wisconsin. The words were supplied by Carl Beck, a former University of Wisconsin student. These two young men in one day produced the song that John Philip Sousa called "the finest of college marching songs."

I Left My Heart In San Francisco

J'aimerais Voir Syracuse
The latter sung by the French singer Henri Salvador, still going strong at 83 or so, and with a new hit and clip out!
"J'aimerais voir Syracuse, l'ile de Paques et Kerouan, Voir les jardins de Babylone." Very dreamy song.

Colorado Rocky Mountain High John Denver

Great idea, by the way.

Did someone get Oklahoma? Where the wind goes rushing in your hair? LordAndry help, you probably know the lyrics!

A St Germain-des-Pres. Yves Montand.

Meet Me In Sobieski by my friend Pat Mac Donald. I don't believe he ever recorded it, so you will just have to imagine a song about a little crossroads town in Wisconsin.

Now Heather, just so you can have this one ringing in your ears, here's Oklahoma. (It's in my long list, if you managed to wade through it.)

Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, Ev'ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
Makin' lazy circles in the sky.

We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We're only sayin'
You're doin' fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.

I just thought of a dual purpose song for you Copago. It fits both the geography and color categories.

Blue Hawaii - Elvis Presley

I wonder if there are more songs like this...

It's the country for me.

Two songs are titled "Massachusetts", my home state; one, a swing era standard popularized by the Gene Krupa band, the other the Bee Gees' 1967 pop hit. There was another song that went "M-A-DOUBLE S-A-C-H-U-S-E-DOUBLE T-S" that played on the old Captain Kangaroo show (and I'll bet many a kid spelled Mississippi right because of the old tune "M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I"!) tjoeb};>

That must be why I can spell it, between Captain Kangaroo and Mr Greenjeans his assistant, I must of learned it!
Massachusetts is where my dad was born, so I guess it stuck in my little head too.

How about "you take a chick in the car and the car won't go, that's the way you spell Chicago"!
