I just heard the sad news that he died. But at least he is at peace, I guess, with no more pain. No one could possibly forget his music.

Someone kindly mentioned it in the current events but it's nice to have this place to further honor him.
I have a few songs of his that sounded appropriate. I for one can't really believe it. He was a pretty gentle soul as they go. And in those days of choosing your favorite Beatle? I was a George fan.

Back in the 70's, Harrison faced a plagarism suit because it was said his "My Sweet Lord" was copied after the Chiffons' 50's hit "He's So Fine". I do remember two of his videos: "I Got My Mind Set On You" where he did a fantastic back flip (for his age!) and his nostalgic "When We Were Fab" a surrealistic summing up of his Beatle years, and co-starring Ringo Starr. tjoeb };>

My favorite Beatle too Bruyere...one of the few rock stars I could stand. He really loved eastern culture...

I have made a tribute quiz to him if you're interested in remembering more about George...

I think that "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is also appropriate.

George was my favorite Beatle. I enjoyed his music a great deal. His music was and will always remain unforgettable. He will be missed. My favorite George Harrison songs were: "Here Comes the Sun" and "What is the Life"

They just put a tribute video on the music channel last night really late and it was just so beautiful. I loved the way he didn't act like a diva in his later life.
The video clip they showed from 1988 was in the tropics either Tahiti or Hawaii at a luau and he was also on a reef with his guitar...with the waves around him. Then he was greeting people.
I watched the Sullivan clip as well and realized that as those things were dubbed that he had an awkward role as he didn't really have to play his guitar and didn't sing backup!
Recently he survived a very strange attack in his Oxfordshire home and a deranged fan came in with a knife and his wife managed to fight the guy off. It was a very strange story.
Paul was so so sad on TV though I didn't see Ringo.

He seemed like a thoroughly nice bloke, not at all prone to the rampant egotism of his former band-mates. A really good songwriter too. Don't know what all that yogic flying stuff was about though! Here's to you, George!

I think that, out of all the Beatles, it would have been most frustrating to be George. Paul & John were part of “one of the greatest musical partnerships of all time” and Ringo is reputedly one of the greatest drummers of all time. George was just George. The youngest of the four, I always got the feeling that nobody really took him seriously…. He is one of the most underrated artists OF ALL TIME, and I still maintain that “Something” is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And let’s not forget “Here Comes The Sun”, “Only a Northern Song”, “I Me Mine” and more of (I believe, at least) some of the very best of all the Beatles songs. Rest yer little ‘eart, George – you deserve it!!

He was just a laid back, subtle sort of a guy, I think. Maybe he didn't think it was worth the hassle to fight against John and Paul to get more of his songs on the albums. At least he didn't have to sing the comedy songs like Ringo and at least he didn't disgrace imself in the same way Paul has (The Frog Chorus anyone? Thought not...).

I agree. George seemed to be quite happy to relinquish the spotlight to the others. Still, it seems a pity that this poor guy (who was a fantastic singer and songwriter in his own right) was constantly overshadowed by the Lennon/McCartney juggernaut. Don't get me wrong, Paul & John were awesome, and they have written some of the most significant songs of all time, in my opinion. It just doesn't seem right that George never really got the recognition he deserved in the Beatles....

Apple Scruffs anyone?
Sad to see George go...
And then there were two...
Funny, I always thought those four would get back together some day...
Still, the music will be with us for ever...

He just rode the waves of life I think. Never really sought the foreground of the stage in the Beatlemania and then gracefully retreated in the aftermath.

So sad to hear about George's passing. I must admit like many people I wasn't really aware of how many fantastic songs he'd written! I heard one friend say on the radio that he never realised how famous he was! What better tribute can you pay to a talented man who appeared to be completely ego-free? I find it kind of astonishing that anyone could be like that in his position. I think we should remember him for 'Here Comes The Sun' at the moment and look at his death positively- he was a spiritual man who has hopefully gone to a better place.
Tjoebigham- If anyone's heard the Chiffons song you'll know why George lost the case over My Sweet Lord- but its such a fantastic melody anyway! Did you know EMI are considering re-releasing it for Christmas? Watch it go to Christmas no.1! I hope they donate the profits to charity though otherwise it'll be kind of a sick cash-in.

Just a little bit of George trivia....

While the "My Sweet Lord" case was still dragging on, the rights to "He's So Fine" were bought by the Beatles ex-manager Alan Klein, seemingly for no other reason than to wind up his former employer. George famously lost the case but then bought the rights the song from Kline later! I'm not entirely sure what that means in terms of royalties!
Also, if it wasn't for George then Monty Python's Life Of Brian wouldn't have been completed, so we have another entertainment landmark to thank him for! Top man!
