I think that N'SYNC is actually talented. They can sing AND dance. Now that is VERY rare. My dad really dislikes most pop stars like BSB and Britney Spears, but he actually gives credit to N'SYNC saying they r actually talented. If u want 2 talk about someone thats music is not even worth a penny, that would go 2 Eminem. The way he talks about his wife and mother, that's is just plain wrong and mean. And the award 4 worst music star ever would also go 2 Bob Dilan. He can't even sing 4 crying out loud!!!!!! He's horrible!!!

I am twenty one years old. I am in shape. I dress nice. And then I look at Britney who is not much younger than me and wonder why. When she first came out she was cute. Now she looks like she stepped off of the corner after a long nights work. I have no kids, but if I did I would not want them to look up to someone who does a video like "Slave" and have guys lick all over them. Do you like your daughters watching that? In my personal opinion I don't think she can sing well either. But that's me. This whole type of music is what I can't stand. Yes, N'Sync can sing and dance at the same time. I can too. I used to do that when I was younger. Ofcourse I am not a guy with a denim jacket on that has shiney things all over it...

Back to the original question - I really do not like M People's Heather Small's voice - how can she earn money singing like she has a plum in her mouth????
But in fairness - I'm tone deaf and I like Bob Dylan (Sassy dancer, sorry). Maybe he isn't the best singer in the world but he has written great stuff for others to cover, don't you think?
The other noise that irritates is Spandau Ballet, but I'm probably in the monority there, too. Just voicing a personal opinion.

As an amateur musician, I have to say that the supposed "boy bands", have got to be THE Most irritating people on the face of the earth. My reasoning is that there are so very many truly talented musicians out there who just can't seem to get a break. I am not speaking of myself of course. I surrendered to reality long ago. I'm a good bassist but I'll never be the next Billy Sheehan or Paco Satriani. But come on! NSTYNC, and BSB along with many others would'nt know the neck from the bridge on a guitar! Do they even write their own lyrics? I'm not sure but I am very doubtfull. I think that there has been a loss of apprectiation for true musicians and lyricists in the recent past.

I'm rambling again! NSYNC, and BSB are the two I dislike the most though there are many who deserve honorable mention.

I'm not a big fan of current "popular" music in general. I prefer tried and true groups like (and you may not like these groups, feel free to disagree with me here) The Beatles, U2....and actually I can't really think of any more.
I know I DON'T like Emininm, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson (I saw him on TV when I was little and he scared the heck outta me), or any of the hundreds of "boy bands" that are so popular now. (I have listened to a few songs by Emininm and Britney Spears and so I really can say without a doubt that I don't like them)

I know I'm gonna step on some toes here, but I just don't get artists like Kid Rock (American Badass? More like American Dumbass!) and Beck (What planet is he from, anyway?) How these guys made it big totally escapes me, but I'm only one person, and in the grand scheme of things, my opinion means very little, I'm sure.......also on my list, any so-called "Boy Band" and any pre-pubescent bit of female "fluff" that swears she's a virgin, then does her utmost to promote a slutty image - who do they think they are fooling? Music is certainly heading for a serious decline - I'd rather have the 80's bubblegum metal hair bands than this garbage!

I agree about the "hate" word....too strong. What I dislike are artists that pay their fans no respect. Without their fans where would they be??

I know a few have been on this bandwagon, but of late Little Miss Spears has shown massive disrespect for her fans in the UK. Many had waited for hourse to see her at the premiere to her movie and were completely shunned by her. Not good.

Another one, Garth Brooks...masses of fans in the UK and sold many, many albums there but can he tour there?? No way. Southern Ireland yea, but over the Irish sea no way.

Ok then.. "musicians" (and I use this word hesitantly here!) I strongly dislike:

There are a few others that don't come so strongly to mind. There are also a few songs that come to mind that I have to wonder why anyone with sense would ever have let ride the airwaves (It Wasn't Me and the one about getting high that people went crazy for for awhile.)
I also really, really can't stand Sarah McLaughlan's voice. I would honestly rather listen to fingernails being scraped across a chalkboard.

I really like the music that is written for the "boy band" genre, although I could care less which of them is singing it. They do some really excellent work with harmonies.

FINALLY! Another "non-fan" of Sarah McLaughlan. I thought I was the only one. I can't stand her.

I don't hate anyone, but I dislike 'pop' music and bands that are only making music for money. If you are gonna be in a band, make sure it's because you love music. Personally I don't like Britney Spears, N'Sync etc. but fair play to people that do. I think some of their songs are a bit raunchy for kids but I suppose they're a better influence than something like Eminem.(No disrespect to Eminem fans-he's very talented, I just don't think kids should hear that kinda thing) I love rock music, but feel free to disagree!

Showing my age perhaps but does anyone remember Tiny Tim singing, 'Tiptoe through the Tulips'. That took some listening to... but it was good for a giggle.

Like most of everyone who posted I can't stand Britney Spears. I didn't like her the minute she showed up in music. She is a bad role model and the way she dresses makes me ill.Me and one of my friends have a term for her. She is what we call a rag queen. The clothes she wears are the perfect size for a Barbie doll I had when I was probably 8. And her music is aweful. Some of the things she sings about I find vulgar. She can't sing worth crap. She can't dance. I honestly don't understand why people buy her albums. In a magazine I read they were readers wrote in about an article about Britney. Nobody liked her. They all thought that the person who wrote the article should hav been fired. And I agree with them.
The thing about Mariah that everyone is mentioning. I love her. She has a great voice and pleases her fans. Not many artists do that. It is a quality hard to find.

Anytime I hear Alanis Morisette's nasally, pretentious, whine I must make a bee-line for the rest room.

Hate isn't the word I brandish around about the last person mentioned or even anyone else, but I fail to find the fascination with Alanis.

Don't you really think, [ after sitting down and doing some careful, non jaded and wholesome thinking about this subject] that the endless types of music out there are meant for everybody - but perhaps at different times in our emotional development, or due to our surroundings? Perhaps availabilty has somewhat to do with it, too...

As a very little girl, I adored Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole and Como on our local radio station...time passed and I changed. Not that I stopped liking the June Cleaver music of the AM 1960's but it just got 'filed away' for a while.

I went through an intense Irish folk music stage at ten. At 12, the Carpenters and John Denver fufilled some deep need in my emotional development. Some of his lesser known compositions are intense and sophisticated in both lyric and craftsmanship. Not top 40 stuff at all.

Another year...I morphed again and overnight my parents were in dispair. My inherited 1950's turntable was outraged by the likes of Led Zep and Humble Pie from morning till night. My boyfriend introduced me to Alice Cooper and Jethro Tull...my parents wondered where it would all end, probably.

These long years later, I enjoy a collection of many, many types of music, from my beloved Scott Joplin rags to Bartok...to Tull and Indigo Girls...and yes, back again to Mathis and James Taylor.

We are complex creatures and many times only a certain type of lyric or backbeat will help us express what's in our hearts, or to prime our musical pumps to create something new and exciting.
Even when my youngest daughter listens to something pink and pretty,[ due to the gene pool arrangement in our family] I know that in a few years she'll be learning Alvin Lee riffs and listening to Ian Anderson, like her older sister.

It's all okay...it's all 'noble music', as long as it doesn't degrade the listener by dragging their consiousness and sensibilities downward instead of up in the ether where they belong.

Even fluffy and less-than-talented pop tarts hit some sort of a chord with their listeners, or they wouldn't make hits. It may not be the musical talent per se, but the feeling evoked in the listener. When I hear "Sugar Sugar" on the radio, I know that it's not very good, but it brings me back to being 12 and just starting to realize that there was a pop culture out there, for me to explore. What's wrong with that?

I admit it. I was a NKOTB fan. I was just the right age when they came out. I even saw them in concert, with Tiffany opening for them. :/ And still, in some deep, DEEP, VERY REMOTE part of my soul, when I hear "Hangin' Tough" I sing along.

I don't like modern pop fluff. I don't even really like the pop fluff I listened to when I was that age, even though I feel some nostaligia about it. I have to agree that simple ability does not a musician make, and while Bob Dylan's voice sometimes drives me bonkers, I have much more respect for him, and like his music far better, than I do for the honey-voiced boys from N'SYNC. But I don't really dislike pop fluff with any sort of vehemence. I'm just really very indifferent to it.

What I really dislike is the hateful music, like Bruyere was talking about. Right now, I have a serious dislike for Toby Keith. I actually have used the word "hate" for his music. Because that is what it inspires. It is hate and intolerance and vigilantism cloaked in wholesome patriotism. I know people who rail against the hate-filled rap, but love Toby Kieth, who rail against the Dixie Chicks for using their popularity for political soapboxing, but love Toby Kieth. These people are willing to make hypocrites out of themselves for the sake of this snake in good ol' boy's clothing. Yes, I have a serious dislike of him.

Two lines from leonard Cohen here. Hate is a negative - I may or may not like someone's music but it's all a matter of taste. Are there absolutes by which to judge quality / merit of anyone's music and if so, who decided them? Live and let live -if you don't like some artist - millions of others do. Thanks to all artists for adding something to the lives of all who enjoy their music

"Hate" is a strong word, I reserve that for those who do me or mine personal harm. However, I do have strong feelings against some "musicians" (that's also a term that gets thrown around loosely).
While I try to remain open-minded to the fact that everyone is entitled to their views I have to admit that I do not enjoy gangster rap. There is too much disrespect for just about anyone who isn't a gangster in these "songs". I wouldn't want my son listening to anything that would give him the idea that it's acceptable to hurt women or for carrying weapons for the purpose of causing another's pain/death. When put into those terms I could possibly say that I hate this kind of music, but all I have to do is turn it off if I hear it. It's quite another thing when someone else is blaring it from their car....then maybe my feelings would also apply to them, just for imposing it on others.

That being said, there are other musicians who simply don't appeal to me. I don't care for Lenny Kravitz (poseur, IMHO). Anyone who oversaturates the airwaves or any female who likes to do vocal acrobats is a turn-off to me. Aerosmith used to be a great band back in the day, until they sold their souls to the MTV devils and now everything they do sounds the same to me. Yet, they continue to win MTV Music awards, yuck. Don't get me started on bubble-gum groups! Can any of them make a song of their own? If I want to hear "Do You Believe in Magic" etc., I'll turn on a classic rock station.

I can't explain why but Mariah Carey just repels me on sight! The weird thing is that if I don't have to look at her, she sings OK. Now that I think about it, ditto on Celine Dion.

Particular "artists" I cannot stand- hate their music and wish they would retire from the spotlight forever- Courtney Love, Garth Brooks and Toby Keith. I also don't like music that promotes hate and violence.

I do like Mariah Carey, though, and with the right producer, she could do much better than the disco hip hop stuff she releases.

Much worse than the boy bands though are the talentless kooks coming off that "American Idol" tv show. It's not even real music.
