Hey everyone im just interested in knowing what musical artist you hate the most? mine would definately be britney spears. i think she is a really bad role model for little kids

I can't muster up much affection for Neal Diamond. I don't think he has much of a voice and hardly any of his repetoire is really memorable. Same goes for bland old Bobby Vinton. And how about the falsettos of Frankie Valli or the BeeGees? tjoeb};>

Cliff Richard - don't ask me why, I've just detested him since I was small and still can't find it in me to like him now I'm an adult.

I wouldn't say hate exactly, but I'm not fond of modern boy bands. Also singers who atract a weird audience!

I hate a lot of artists, but these are just a few that stand out in my mind:

Neil Diamond-The guy cannot sing or anything. I know he's been around a while and produced a lot of stuff, but frankly, that does not mean a thing. Just because someboy's been making music for a long time does not mean it's actually good. This guy is a terrible singer and he has an awful voice. I only have one positive thing to say about him: he wrote the great song "Red Red Wine", but UB40 actually permormed it well, not him.

Britney Spears-She is a terrible singer, and a terrible dancer. She has no talent whatsoever. The only reason she is so big is because millions of stupid young kids buy her music when they have no clue as to what good music really is, and millions of even stupider teenagers buy her music because they have been brainwashed by all the teeny-bopper Top 40 garbage that's out there, and so they buy her music along with the Backstreet Boys, N*Sync, Christina Aguilera, etc.

Ja Rule-He makes hip hop look bad. Yes, some of his beats are great, and some of his choruses are catchy, but this guy cannot rap or sing for s**t.

i have no problem with The BeeGees or Neil Diamond...i grew up with that stuff...

but i have to say Mariah Carey...she makes my skin crawl...as does Robert Plant...(sorry to those Led Zepplin fans)...i do agree with the Ja Rule thing though..he's just annoying...as is Ludacris and Nelly....

Hello, I would like to plead a bit of discretion from you, as we have many people who like Britney and Mariah and this is all a matter of taste after all.
Though you're entitled to express your opinions, I'd rather hear why you don't like a particular artist if you feel that strongly, rather than hearing about how stupid people are for enjoying them. That's out of line in my book.
There are no mindless idiots here at Quizzyland anyhow.

Personally Britney's fans haven't been drugged into submission by chemicals or anything, they find something they like in her personality and her music and so comments about the kids who like her are out of place here.
I'd tolerate comments more about how certain kinds of music encourage drug use in its fans.
After all, aren't most artists the products of the media?
Face it, if they weren't, you would hear them!

I've already said, I have a child who likes Britney Spears, I'd rather have her listen to Britney than some of the others cited here in the music section, and my daughter is far from stupid.
My son is nine and likes to listen to Shaggy, Offspring, Craig David and Dr Dre and I can assure you, he's not stupid either.

The only artists that I can use the word "hate" with, have to be those who encourage hatred amongst their listeners themselves!

I would like to voice my agreement here, Heather. We do not all enjoy the same music and singers, thank goodness. However we do not need to insult those who like what we don't. That sort of thing leads nowhere.
As to four letter words, the word 'hate' is one I would never use about any person. This too is somewhat out of order too, in my opinion.

Lucky for me, my daughter's too young to be interested in these pretty boys, and I wouldn't waste any of my money on any of their garbage anyways. Hopefully she'll take after me, I've never, not even when I was a kid, been interested in these kinds of teenybopper, pin-up garbage.

Hi, this is one of the mods again, and I just wanted to remind you that the groups that your daughter might like in the future, might be much worse than the ones you've cited!

I prefer the boys' bands, they are pretty clean cut to some other artists. And then if I had a choice between techno and boys' bands or Britney, I'd choose the latter hands down.

As a parent I've found that whenever I make a pronouncement, like "I'll never let my kids do x..or Y." Then I usually get challenged!

Hate? I hate no-one! Much too strong a word for me, that is. It would be much better if the thread was called "Music artists that irritate you" or something. Then I could launch into one of my ludicrous assaults on Mariah Carey....Actually, no. Heather would box my ears for sure!

Actually, now that I come to think of it, Ian Stuart, the singer from racist punk band Skrewdriver was a thoroughly nasty piece of work. His band were embarrasingly popular in the UK for a while, and he got his nasty message across to far too many people. What a shame that he died in a car crash a good few years ago. What a terrible shame!

What did I hear? If I hear one more chipmunk remark about that poor Mariah who's working herself to death for her fans, I'll pick you up by your Superfurry scruff and give you a wee shake! No, but you get the picture. (You're a foot taller than me, it would be hard!)

The last remark is more along the lines of what I mean, musicians who drive people into hatred, whose lyrics preach hatred, who don't have any care for their fans who put them where they are...who don't give anything to charity, who don't care as long as they have a good supply of women and drugs.

I used to say I "hated" John Denver's voice, kind of nasal and whiny, and then once he'd died, and I heard his song on the radio, I cried! It sounded so homey and simple and sweet!

I also "hate" lyrics that do harm to women, or anyone for that matter. Ok perhaps I can indulge in a Linda Ronstadt "You're no good" whilst crying over a beer once ever ten years, but not stuff that advocates violence.
I guess if someone wants to listen to it, then they can do it in the privacy of their own homes and not be my next door neighbor.

Britney's just a product of her environment, her mother chose to capitalize on her appeal at an early age, and like many child stars time will tell if she stays around.
The thing I don't like is the exploitation by parents of their child's looks or talents.
I was approached about twenty times when my kid was little for modeling, and stage things. I held off. I don't regret it.

Boyz bands are just products like pasteurized milk, not a fine cheese.

Well SFA and I met here over a little chat about techno and I still maintain that the lack of humans in it, and also the drug culture influence were the major points against it that I had. If I could hear a melody I'd be ok, but if I can't hear anything..I can't really appreciate it.
It does raise your heartrate, doesn't it?

I hate all the bands and singers that are on Mtv, period. I enjoy my music from the streets where there is only a small crowd and the bands play for the fans and the love of the music and not for money in their pockets. I especially hate the kids in the boy bands. They are obviously in it for the money because I've listened to their "music" and I would have to say that it is garbage. They probably feel the same way.

I do not like Brittney Spears, Eminem and Marilyn Manson. All are over-blown, non-original, non-controversial and way over hyped.

I really really don't like Enrique Iglesias...he is sooooo creepy!

I hate boy bands, bubble gum pop acts and bands who just jump on the band wagon of what's selling now. My daughter loves Britney, the Backstreet Boys and Aaron Carter. It is important to me to allow her to express herself, so I buy her the cd's and play them in the car so that she doesn't feel slighted. I must say, I at least don't have to screen them firs, I know she won't hear anything vulgar, racist, sexist or hate filled. She asked for the Nickleback cd recently, and I told her no. Now, if she starts liking Sum41, I may have to draw the line

Oh and Heather, please don't hurt me, but I've never liked Mariah either.

I just want our younger members who really love her not to think we haven't rejected the poor thing without thinking it out. As I'm an editor in the music section as well, I know that we have many people who admire her.
I also like to encourage the same young people to think out their answers.
SFA knows that on the techno question, I'm not just talking about the music, I just can't accept something that has to be enjoyed with drugs or extremely loud to be appreciated.
And the time I wrote about it here in these forums, was the weekend another kid had been trampled to death in a rave party in a small French village though they had doctors and security measures etc.
So when I say hate, there has to be a reason!

I'm thinking of another thread about musicians who if we were to listen to them without knowing anything at all about them, would we like them or dislike them just the same?

I think the reasons we have strong reactions often have to do with other things than the music itself;

I know you probably already know this Heather, but I was kidding on the please don't hurt me part I know you wouldn't go off on a rant if someone just said, "I've never liked {insert band or artist here} and left it at that. Hope I didn't hurt your feelings, I wasn't implying that you were the "Mariah Nazi"

As a big Mariah fan (and not ashamed of it) I want to thank Bruyere. I appreciate not everyone's gonna like but she's good to her fans. The people I have no respect for are those who treat the fans with contempt like say Liam Gallagher of Oasis who seems to be prone to punching them!

Don't mind me, it's one of those ranting type days!
You see, I am one of those people who defends others' tastes in art or music like a pitbull, and when I taught, in Indiana as a matter of fact, we actually had to impose ours on large student populations. I mean they imposed museum visits and concerts on them. But, and this is where I took exception, they had to pay for them and go to things on a list.
I accepted things that weren't on the list, as the administration had no idea that people simply couldn't afford these things and some of the concerts were quite simply, well let's say modern compositions that would make me beg for techno!
I actually put my job on the line for this and if questioned I would have said, "well you'll defeat your purpose if you force them to go to events that cost too much money and that are really really objectionable to many."

I didn't have to. So you see, I'd do it for your right to listen to anyone.

I realize that many of the younger trivia folks probably think: Malizma is an old fogey !! So I'd like to give equal criticis to some older artists that drive me a nutty as the two artists I mentioned above (Manson and Eminem). I equally dislike the disco era and beyond Bee Gees. THey drive me nuts !!!!! Their voices are like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. My all time most hated song is "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees. I also do not like the celebrity of Michael Jackson, he gives me the creeps. I also have not enjoyed his music in a very long time. Sorry to any fans out there. To the Mariah fan out there, she's all right. She has her good songs and her not good songs as many others do.
