Ever heard a line or two from a song and thought "my God, that's bad"? What are the worst ones?

In the eighties there was a song "Gonna write a classic, gonna write it in an attic, babe I'm an addict for you" ... interesting use of rhyming there. Couldn't remember who sang it and only found Adrian Gurvitz on the net which doesn't ring a bell at all .... and so except for being really bad a rhymes he should fall into the depths of obscurity!

My other really bad favourite is the classic McCarthur Park ... "someone left a cake out in the rain, and it took so lng to bake it" and so on.

Any more to add?

Yes, I remember that Adrian Gurvitz song - he was also in the Baker Gurvitz Army with Jack Bruce.
What about all the lyrics from "Mickey, he's so fine..."

'Sometimes when we touch, the honesty's too much...' I remember my brother telling me there was such a song and I thought he was joking.

Anything by REO Speedwagon, esp "It's time to bring this ship into the shore, and throw away the oars forever" from "Can't fight this feeling anymore".

Oasis wrote appallingly bad lyrics, no point in quoting as you could just choose literally anything.

Actually once you've listened to Dylan and Paul Simon, everyone sounds second rate ;-). Except Neil Hannon ;-)))))).

lupetta- I saw the Oasis behind the music and thought it was hilarious that they had to have subtitles because their Manchesterian brogue was so thick. I have a good friend from Wales and used to tease her about carrying subtitles.

"We will we will rock you"
They played this for a strike at Penn and I was at a neighboring institution. Every morning they'd be playing this really loud. Boom Boom Bam Boom Boom Bam.
Who is it? I've forgotten already.

Queen, oh my- I can't imagine hearing that early in the morning.

I have to say even though I am a fan, I really do not like Styx's "Too Much Time on My Hands", I think it is a pretty stupid song.

Hey Wipe Out is stupid but it's great fun to play with a baby. You let the baby pull himself up to his feet on your knees, then you sing, "da da da da da da Wipe Out" big noise, then said baby lifts him or herself up and wants more!
And in my day, we'd drum on the desk with our fingers.
Copago take note, play wipe out with your baby. And "Soul Man" with Belushi's version. You put your sunglasses on the baby and sing, "I'm a soul man" it's a riot!

(Yes my children are perfectly normal and pretty good musicians).

By the way, the Queen song, picture those oil barrels full of wooden crates burning to keep the guys warm, a big truck full of union members, and as I was in the school across the street I kept on wondering if they weren't going to call me a scab employee. And so the reverberation against the walls of the streets with this boom boom bang would ring out and I'd just teach my class and leave.

Oh, another one!
"I'll do anything for love but I won't do THAT."
I never heard any of the other words to this song because the singer mumbles a lot. This is really nervewracking because now I always wonder what 'THAT' is - wash the dishes? clean up his room? clear his stuff out of the garage?
It's another classic of Wimp Rock almost the equal of the great "You left me just when I needed you most." For reasons she left, see above.

In "10 Songs You Really Despise", one of my choices was Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Its lyrics are unmemorably flat, just the same old "love" cliches. It's that droning melody people remember!

Much as I love the Stranglers, they're not renowned for their lyrical subtlety. One of my favourites is from the song "Peaches"...

Oh s**t, there goes the charabanc,
Looks like I'm gonna be stuck here the whole summer,
Well what a bummer,
I can think of a lot worse places to be,
Like down on the street,
Or down in the sewer,
Or even on the end of a skewer.

"Even on the end of a skewer"? What?

Just for that, we're going to sing, "Feelings, nothing more than feelings, trying to forget my feelings of love....
Feelings, whoa whoa whoa, feelings, whoa whoa...

Somebody stop me!

It wouldnt surprise me one bit luv. That song is so annoying I cant even begin to describe it.

Also someone else mentioned N'SYNC. The name of the band alone conjurs up the idea of bad music.

As for lyrics I hate I could never stand rap music. All the "I'm gonna kill you n@#$r, after I rape your sister" type of lyrics offend me to no end. I cant beleive these "artist's" sell so many albums.

i don't think anyone listed any rap stuff cause most of it's junk to begin with...that was a given

how about
who put the bomp in the bompbabomp babomp
who put the ram in the ramalamadingdong

sure it was a cutesy song and all but umm...why?

or, 'there's a tear in my beer and i'm cryin for you dear, you are on my lonely mind'..

some country songs have some pretty silly lyrics as well...
