Aaah let me join in.... Tintin & The Blowdryers - Danish band, my mother forced me to a concert when I was 8. Not over it yet. Mumiy Troll - more the concept than the name... erm. Originate from Vladivostok in Russia and truly a shotgun to the head. Malk De Koijn - speaks for itself. Especially because it doesn't mean anything. The Wrong Bag Mashed Potatoes On the Wall, or M-POW - my own band, whatever Waiting for Daddy The Brown Dot - think about that one. They aren't house-trained. Lex & The Lump What Are You Talking Bout AKA The Duck & The Rafter The rest are Danish and not funny if you don't read the language. /khassandra

Has anyone mentioned 'MGF' or 'Crazy P'?* They always give me a giggle.

Definitely Killing Heidi - what an awful name. It gives me the creeps every time I hear it. Re Bertho's comment: "The artist formerly known as Prince.. The symbol. What planet is he from?". I agree wholeheartedly. ( Pretentious, moi? )

Hi guys, not sure if it was in this current thread or a former one, but the band names were so racy that they got us into a bit of trouble for our family site guidelines... Guess that's why those band names were the weirdest we'd ever seen! In any case...let's leave out the really racy ones please.

I believe that the original name of one of my favourite bands could fit in here - originally called Arabicus Pulp (now just called Pulp). Think the original name comes from part of the coffee making process or something like that. Oh, and anyone mention Voice of the Beehive yet?!?

Sixpence None The Richer (is that there name?) is pretty original. And it has a context (the allusion to C.S. Lewis's metaphor about giving to God) that makes it a rich name.

There is a local band here called Pessimist and the Really Bad Day. More noteably, Kajagoogoo, popular in '80's. Always wondered where they got their name.

Weird band names- a couple take-offs on a couple mainstream acts by a couple punk bands- Jon Cougar Concentration Camp and REO Speedealer! But my current fave weird name for a band is The Acid Mothers Temple & Melting Paraiso UFO band. They're a Japanese psychedelic folky droney acid rock band. Great stuff to listen to at 3:30 am.

My two favorite strange band names at the moment are Dropkick Murhpys and Flogging Molly. They're both Irish punk bands.
Also, Burning Brides and a band simply called The Music.

I like Flogging Molly & Burning Brides! Great bands.
Another couple weird band names- the ska group Let's Go Bowling and the surf instrumental band The Star And Key of the Indian Ocean. Weird names, yes, but some great music.

I also have records by 'Hatfield and the North','Slapp Happy','Henry Cow','Blodwyn Pig','Moby Grape','The Pink Fairies''The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band' 'Those Helicopters','The Hammersmith Gorillas' etc etc.

There's a band currently doing the circuit in Australia. I think they are a jazz band. They call themselves 'The Bondi Cigars'. Now, for those unfamiliar with the concept, a few years ago Bondi Beach had a terrible problem with 'effluence' being washed up on the beach, because of a faulty sewerage system in Sydney. The resulting 'deposits' were named various things, including 'blind mullets' and 'Bondi cigars'!
