i love some of the lines from 'king''s songs (remember paul king was lead singer and used to wear a lot of tartan suits and then went on to present on MTV..?) 'even in ballet shoes your mean' - from the song 2MB (what does 2MB mean anyway..?) 'cover me in cheesecake mix' - from the song 'Torture' their lyrics make me giggle and i find them quite uplifting. "You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but your older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death." - Pink Floyd
I LOVE these lyrics. While many find them depressing, I think it's a great reminder to live every day to the fullest.

Numbers of descendants. Segregated by design. Caught up in a purpose that disgraces their standards. These actions won't help us end our fight. Progress can't be made by weeding out the majority. Eliminate the source but do not destroy the fighters. The color of the oppressor is only the shortcoming of the disaster. End the sinister accusations. Acknowledge the foresight in which we hold. To end oppression - doing it in an uneducated way is not going to end it. It's going to enforce ones reputation in a disgraceful manner. To segregate us by color would be antithetical to what we are trying to accomplish.
Walls of Jericho
A quick lyric I also like;
And man must truly be God, for he has tried so hard to create me in his image; a formless shadow deprived of life.

"Just one year of Love, Is better than a lifetime alone" Queen the love theme from the movie Highlander.
"He stopped loving her today, They placed a wreath upon his door, Soon they will carry him away He stopped loving her today"
George Jones, He stopped loving her today one of the saddest country songs ever.

Dunno why, but one line that always sticks in my mind, and I personally think is devilishly clever is from 'Good Vibrations' - 'I don't know where, but she sends me there'. My guess is that Brian Wilson put it there as a throwaway, 'filler' line but damn, it's clever!

Any Part of a Paul Simon song and also Wind Beneath My wings-it makes me cry.But my favourite lines come frm a very folksey song called I know Where I'm Going. 'Some say he's black, But I say he's bonny, The fairest of them all, Is my handsome winsome Johnny' For very personal, romantic reasons.

I have two.
1. "It's only in your head you feel left out" - Jimmy Eat World's 'The Midde'
2. "You wanted a hero tonight: Well I'm not made of steel: (made of steel): But your secret's safe with me." - Our Lady Peace's 'Made Of Steel.'
The Middle seems to have been written for me, especially that line, and Our Lady Peace reminds me of this boy I really loved....

I have many beloved song lyrics, but I guess the one that is most significant to me is the one seen in my signature below. It is from 'Heartland' by The The (Matt Johnson IS the band). Here are a few other lovely lines from the same song.
'Beneath the old iron bridges, across the Victorian parks... And all the frightened people running home before dark... Past the Saturday morning cinema... That lies crumbling to the ground... And the p*ss stinking shopping centre in the new side of town.... I've come to smell the seasons change and watch the city... As the sun goes down again.
Here comes another winter of long shadows and high hopes. Here comes another winter of waiting for Utopia... And waiting for Hell to freeze over.' The song could be construed as a little anti-American (a sentiment I do NOT share, as I expressed in a similar thread), as it is about his lamenting of the alleged 'Americanization' of Britain. I just find Johnson's writing beautifully evocative, yet spare.

Just returning with some of the words to the songs mentionned in my earlier post (just before magpie8 entry here -- go back two entries to find it).
Gravel On The Ground (Mac Davis)
If our lives could lie before us, Like a straight and narrow highway,
So that we could see before us, Long before we took the ride,
We would never look to heaven, Make a wish or move a mountain,
'Cause we'd always know the answer, To what's on the other side.
chorus:
But life ain't no easy freeway, Just some gravel on the ground,
And you py for every mile you go, And you spread some dust around,
But we all have destinations, And the dust will settle down,
This life ain't no easy freeway, Just some gravel on the ground.
So let's walk the road together, Who knows what we'll find tomorrow,
Maybe good times, maybe sorrow, Both are waitin' round the bend,
Given time two hearts discover, What they're feelin' for each other,
At the most we'll end up lovers, At the least we'll make us friends.
chorus: twice
The Secret (Fame --- t.v. series)
The secret of life is in the living,
Not just standing ther and watching life go by,
And the secret of love is in the giving,
You've got to open up by reaching deep inside,
You know it's worth a try.
chorus:
The secret of life -- celebrate life in every way you can,.
Just jump right in and live it, every single minute,
The secret of love --celebrate love each moment of everyday,
There's one thing to be sure of, you'll end up having more of
When you've given love away.
The secret of joy is in the knowing everything will somehow turn out right,
The secret turns out to be as simple as living one day at a time,
Love will make it right.
chorus: twice
Be Your Own Hero (Fame -- the t.v. series)
You gotta be your own hero, you gotta have something worth fightin' for,
Go out and find, you got to find your own dream now, oh now...
Brave And Strong (Roger Whitaker)
In every life there's a moment when you fell you have to cry,
And you give up and your spirit fails, you feel you're ready, you feel that you're ready to die,
I know how you feel, I know how you feel, So did I.
chorus:
Here is a song for the brave and strong, a song that will lift your heart,
Here's what you do when your life goes wrong, fight for a brand new start,
Deep in the dark of an endless night, when you're low, rise and go,
Walk into the light.
The Higher You Climb (Dan Fogelberg)
The higher you climb, the more that you see,
The more that you see, the less that you know,
The less that you know, the more that you yearn,
The more that you yearn, the higher you climb.
The farther you reach, the more that you touch,
The more that you touch, the fuller you feel,
The fuller you feel, the less that you need,
The less that you need, the farther you reach.

The song 'Whatever' from Our Lady Peace. It Best describes most people when they are upset and just don't care about anybody but themselves and let there anger out without caring!
'There's no holding me back,
I'm not driven by fear, I'm just driven by anger.
And you're under attack,
I'm just climbing up slowly, I'm the one and only, I... '
'The tease, the ways you lie,
Stumble in your mind.
The fear, the hope inside,
They hit here.'
'But whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
l'll take it back again.
Whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
l'll take it back again.'
'There's no holding me back,
I'm not driven by fear, I'm just driven by anger.
And you're under attack,
I'm just climbing up slowly, I'm the one and only, I...'
'The tease, the ways you lie,
Stumble in your mind.
The fear, the hope inside,
They hit here.'
'But whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
l'll take it back again.
Whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
l'll take it back again.
But whatever you need, ever you got...'
'But whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
I'll take it back again.
Whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
I'll take it back again.
But whatever you need, ever you got, ever you want,
I'll take it back again.
But whatever you need, ever you got...'
Whatever you...
Whatever you want.
Whatever you...
Whatever you want.'

I've got a few, seeing as that I think of music as a part of my soul.
"It's funny how life turns out, the odds of faith in the face of doubt." - 'Camera One - Josh Joplin Group
"I am the one and only, nobody I'd rather be." - 'The One and Only' - Chesney Hawkes
"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." - 'Closing Time' - Semisonic
"Life is what happens while you're making other plans." - 'Beautiful Boy' - John Lennon
There are more that will come to me.

This is a seriously hard question. I've recently discovered I have more cds than brain cells.

Here are a few more of mine:
"I'm a very, very complex person. I try to improve, just see how I worsen." Complex Person by the Pretenders.
"Half a million soldiers fly across the water One in ten are never comin' back again Fifty thousand sons who never grew to fathers Don't you ever wonder who they might have been "
"Conspiracy Theory" by Steve Earle.
And one more:
"I put my summer's back in a letter And I hide it from the world All the regrets you can't forget Are somehow pressed upon a picture In the face of such an ordinary girl And when you sleep You find your mother in the night But she fades just out of sight So there isn't any sweetness in the dreaming And when you wake the morning showers you with light And it makes you feel alright But it's just the same hard candy You're remembering again "
"Hard Candy" by Counting Crows.

In reply to:

I'm venturing OT for a moment, so sorry. What is a celeidh? I recall someone telling me it mean party, but I'm not sure. How is it pronounced?

Great, I can't chose a song! Can I post ones in a different language? Oh well, here's my english one: "I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter I had to fall To lose it all But in the end It doesn't even matter" ~"In The End" by Linkin Park. I'm not much of a Linkin Park fan, but I love this song. I'll put up a few Japanese Translation lines. "I miss you, but I can't see you But it's sad to think that's the end After all, we finally met The tenderness I recieved from you Is still right here in my heart I'll give it to someone That precious thing which goodbye brought" ~"Sayonara dake ga Shitteta" by Asada Youko "It would be better if I'd never noticed, but I can't get you off my mind You used to cry all the time Now you're standing in the light All I want to know is Who is the focus of your heart?" ~"Focus" Yamamoto Taisuke (I've been listening to this song WAY to much ) Gah! I have WAY too many favorites. If anyone wants to, I can put up the translation lyrics for Oreta Tsubasa de~With Broken Wings~ by Suzumura Ken'ichi and In The Blue by Hiroshi Kamiya. *Translations courtesty of Meg-chan*

This is one of my favorite old songs: Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah Here I am at Camp Granada Camp is very entertaining And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining I went hiking with Joe Spivy He developed Poison Ivy You remember Leonard Skinner He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner All the counsellors hate the waiters And the lake has alligators And the head coach wants no sissies So he reads to us from something called Ulysses Now I don't want this should scare ya But my bunkmate has malaria You remember Jeffrey Hardy They're about to organize a searching party. Take me home, oh muddah fadduh, take me home, I hate Grenada Don't leave me out in the forest where I might get eaten by a bear. Take me home, I promise I will not make noise or mess the house with other boys, oh please don't make me stay, I've been here one whole day. Dearest fadduh, darling muddah, How's my precious little bruddah? Let me come home if ya miss me I will even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me. Wait a minute, it stopped hailing, Guys are swimming, guys are sailing, Playing baseball, gee that's better, Muddah Fadduh kindly disregard this letter. --Allan Sherman 1963
