Most of you will have read that I received all the No1 hits from the 1950's to date so which year would you vote for as the best for pop records.
Mine would have to be 1964 (showing my age)

Pop? eeeesh! Not my kind of music, sorry! ... But you don't have to fight between to different years! Or we'll have to move this topic to the "Controversial Issues"! [Big Grin]

Well, I suppose '64 is more "pop" (although I wouldn't have called "House of The Rising Sun" pop), but I still think '67 is more my kind of scene .... [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Well I'll agree to differ if we can agree the 60's were the best decade.

If we are settling for the whole 60's decade then count me in, I just couldn't decide on a single year.

I've browsed through the lists of chart toppers for both the years you've chosen and do you know what struck me.

I could sing along to every word of every single song. The capacity of our minds never ceases to amaze me, music really seems to sink in although I have no idea why.

It reminded me that we used to chant our times tables, something I always hated, but it certainly worked.

It's the only era I can do a four note intro round of questions (tapes or cd's) and still get teams scoring 100%
I've even done a 100 question round - took 7 minutes to play (including gaps) and one team scored 96 out of the 100. (It took three weeks to prepare that round)

The music might not have been the best but each one was different and interesting in some way.

Without a shadow of a doubt the 60's was THE era - every one listed were great - so much so that today's singers/groups/bands do covers but to answer the first question our year has to be 1978 - the year we got together, so summer of 78 songs as follows:
If I can't have you - Yvonne Ellerman
Davy's on the Road again - Manfred Mann
Kiss you all over - Exile
Pattie Smith - Because the night
John Paul Young - Love is in the air

Happy happy days and great love songs!! [Wink]

My sister got a similar(ish) gift for Christmas. It had cd's from the 60's - 00's. We went though them all song by song. Funnily enough, the 60's was my best period, there were only 2 I didn't know by name. Which is all very bizarre, becuase it was a while before I was born.... [Big Grin] [Razz]
