If we have any physics buffs in here I would like to know how fast the bus in SPEED would have had to be going to make that jump over the unfinished freeway. Use reasonable estimates for distance and weight of the bus.

Also, in one of the DIE HARD movies Bruce Willis jumped into a lift well from open doors, dropped about 6 feet and across about 8 feet only to grip onto a 1 inch groove with his finger tips. I would like to know what equivelant weight he was when he held himself up with just his finger tips. Again, using restraint with the estimates.

Cheers

It's been a quarter century since I did any serious physics calculations, so I Googled instead. A discusssion of Mythbusters' attempt to test this is at http://www.physicsforums.com/showthread.php?t=362067. Within that, there is a calculation that the bus speed would need to be at least 104 mph, notwithstanding the approach and landing ramps required and the frequent damage such jumps do to the axles and frames of stunt vehicles...

The Mythbusters episode clip on this is at http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-bus-jump.html and http://dsc.discovery.com/videos/mythbusters-small-scale-bus-jump.html

Regarding Die Hard, maybe John (Bruce) did a lot of recreational rock climbing??
