Once again we have a new leader. N-Bomb picks a humungous 6/8 for back-to-back wins .. he replaces Dizart out front. His margin back to second of +2 is the biggest so far in this comp.
From there the margin back to third is +3 .. and the next 3 pts cover 10 players. In other words, the first two have broken away with a gap of 3 pts, and the next 10 (spread over 3 pts) are fighting it out for bronze.
Only one person kept their spot from the previous round. That's 4 of 9 rounds completed .. we're almost at the half-way stage of the tipping comp.
All teams have now played their second match .. one more each sees the end of the group stage and the departure of half the teams. Round Five starts tonight in about 16 hrs or so (we also lodge our second set advance picks for the tournament - the two finalists and the winner). Euro 2012 ( 5 ) Sat 16th June.

Russia (11), Poland (0), Netherlands (3) and Denmark (2) have been eliminated .. 16 of 18 players have now lost one of their advance picks for the x4 semi-finalists .. and the elimination of Russia saw two players lose one of their finalists (see post below this one).

As the gap between the last group match and the start of the quarters is just 48 hours, picks for the quarters can be lodged in two batches (deadline for the first two is Thursday and deadline for the other two is Saturday). Picks for the first two quarter-finals can now be lodged as the line-up for those two games has been decided (they will be played on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd) : Euro 2012 ( 7 ) Thu 21st June.

Germany are out and nobody picked it! Eight players were winners with just 3/8, two collected a wooden spoon each with 1/8 .. and the rest of us scored 2/8.
George95 retains his 4 pt lead over Dizart and N-Bomb, which may or not be enough to win this. He's lost his advance pick for the winner (Germany), ditto Dizart .. but N-Bomb still has a live pick with Spain, and continues his run of 1st, 2nd or 3rd for the entire comp!
The next 4 pts cover 8 players (up from seven in the previous round). AlonsoKing has come out of nowhere to be just 3 pts off a podium finish, but it may be too late .. his advance pick for the winner is Germany (see post above this for a complete list of advance picks for the final).

George95 has hung on to win from the fast finishing N-Bomb and illiniman14, who finished the comp with a win. N-Bomb was 1st, 2nd or 3rd throughout the entire comp, and illiniman14 finished with three wins in the last three rounds, to add to his win way back in Round One (he won four of the nine rounds).
paper_aero & szabs were the other two winners of the final round .. szabs missed the podium by just two points, but does she care? No way, because Spain are the champions! She'll surface in a few hours when she, and the rest of Spain, have completed their celebrations.
Spain have thumped Italy 4-0 to retain their Euro title and achieve an unprecedented treble .. two Euro titles with the World Cup thrown in for good measure. No-one picked the 4-0 scoreline .. KrivoyRog was closest with 3-0 for a gimme.
That's it, it's all over. Congratulations to the three medallists! | |

A very tight finish, and special plaudits to illiniman, who came third without needing a bonus point. George and N-Bomb deserve praise too, as does Ghto4 for the great writeups.

Big congrats go to George, N-Bomb & illiniman for getting podium. Eventhough I didnt make it, the Sunday celebrations here were very worth while, and went on all night, and basically all day yesterday, Spain is football mad, and this kind of achievement cant go uncelebrated.  George thanks once again for running the competition, and your writeups are always a pleasure to read.
