So when and how do we lodge our picks? we have to pick medallists for ALL events on this thread, right?

A silly question if I may, how does this work with the mens football for example? This is showing in the third thread which closes the day the semi finals are on. If you wait to put your tips in then you will just have 4 teams to choose from for your 3 picks. Would it not be better if we have to enter our picks much earlier?

Same with the men's board sailing, all races except the final race would have been held so it would be possible that all medallists could have been decided by then or more likely, just have a handful of sailors in with a chance.

I am sure some other events are the same.

I'm interested, will try to do some research tonight and get some tips happening before the opening ceremony.

Would also like to know the answers to Howie72's question.

I tried to space it out into three even groups, but did not really succeed. Looks like everyone gets a couple of freebies!

Damn Damn Damn. Had internet problems last night couldn't get on.

Was out today, supposed to be home by 5.30 but things didn't work out.

Was going to pick Cav Goss Sagan in the road, which is on now. Wiggins will work for Cav if there is no break away and he's the best sprinter in the world by a mile

No Idea about the other 4 but I plan to tip just for my own sake :-)

  • Welcome to the results post of the 2012 Olympics. The Brits did a great job of running them and should be very proud of themselves, as they were almost as good as the Sydney games. smile
  • The first event in our tournament was the Men's cycling road race, selected by George95. Unfortunately, he did not receive a bonus point as he did not select the winner. He did not even select a placing, but he was in good company, as nobody else scored a single point, either! All the favourites must have been exhausted by the Tour de France.
  • Women's team archery was a bit more fruitful with most tipsters being on target with gold medalists, South Korea, and silver medalists, China. The Japanese team snuck under everyone's radar to score bronze.
  • The Men's eights in the rowing was another points bonanza, with seven people tipping the trifecta of Germany/Canada/GB.
  • The favourites got home in the Men's 200 IM swimming, with the two Americans, Phelps and Lochte taking gold and silver. Cseh from Hungary was third. Phelps retired with more gold medals than anyone else in history and has won more bling than many countries have!
  • Woman's team foil is an event that I know very little about, but most tipsters scored well. The Italians took it out, with Russia and South Korea taking out the minor medals.
  • Parts 2 and 3 of the Results will be posted soon.

  • Mahe Drysdale won one of New Zealand's six gold medals in the Single Sculls. Synek from Czech Republic and local hope Campbell chased him home.
  • In the glamour event of the games, showman Usain Bolt toyed with the opposition and won the 100m easily. His countryman, Yohan Blake made it a Jamaican one-two by just heading American Justin Gatlin.
  • China picked up yet another gold in the longest pool event, with Sun Yang breaking the world record and winning by a huge margin. Ryan Cochrane from Canada pipped the Tunisian, Oussama Mellouli for the silver.
  • The Russian diver, Ilya Zakharov, finished in front of a brace of Chinese divers. He scored 104.5 for a Forward 4 1/2 Somersault, pike position. I tried to do one of them once, and got lost on the way down.
  • Sprint cycling is a fascinating battle of minds, followed by several seconds of frenetic pedalling. Local hope, Jason Kenny, rolled triple world champ, Gregory Bauge of France, and Aussie Shane Perkins overcame his Trinidadian opponent to claim bronze.
  • In our mini-Olympics, Sypher is holding onto a narrow lead over a couple of stalwart Kiwis. Can he hold on for five more events? Time will tell...

Shouldn't I have gotten a bonus point in Round 1 for tipping the Gold Medalist in my own event, the 200IM?

We had more tippers than events, that'd be one heck of an unfair disadvantage to somebody.

It is mentioned in the rules for the thread. Also, I only actually competed the first day, because I couldn't get to the second or third. Mine won't be disadvantaging anyone. And if people had replied to the first thread to choose a sport, for other people to play, why shouldn't they get some kind of advantage over people who just jump in to the GSB choosing threads? There wouldn't be sports to even tip on without the suggestions of the players in the first thread in the first place.

Those score posts look awesome ozzz2002, btw, looks like a ton of work! Great job and thanks for taking it on!

Edited because of a typo, and because I thought of more I felt needed to be said.

Terrific write ups and great work on compiling these smile Thanks! Shouldn't I get my 5 bonus points too for correctly picking the gold medal winner in MY event (women's archery)? or will you be adding the event bonus in the final round for everybody?

Also, in first round, my tally seems to add up to 31 and not 30...just check once...

Bonus points will be added in Round 3, and a couple of other corrections made, too. Will be finalised in about 9 hours.

It is a VERY tight finish!
