When an author's challenge quiz goes online, could the author who came up with the title be under the author? I think the author who came up with the original title should get some kudos on the quiz page. I know it says it in the "online" author challenges list, but maybe it can work on the main page?

Maybe something like

Title

By: xxxxxxx
Author Challenge by xxxxxxxx

I'm just saying this because I think the person who came up with the original title should get a little credit.

When taking an author's challenge, I try and thank the person inspiring the title in the quiz conclusion text.

Yeah, but this would be for anyone who does an author's challenge. It's just an idea.

I agree that some type of notification would be nice, but the name right under the author gives a bit more credit than is due, as if the suggester collaborated on the quiz. What about something like "Title Suggested by: XX" at the end of the quiz? On another thread, it has been mentioned that having a notification or note when one of your title suggestions in the author challenge has made it online would also be nice. I also try to acknowledge the person who suggested the title when I write the conclusion of my quizzes which are challenges, like JanIQ, but it isn't a requirement and it is possible to forget.

I like the idea of a notification or putting in a little note at the end. I just had an idea.

We don't even see who made the title of quizzes we write, unless we go find it in the claimed list. I'd like to see this on the editing page as well.

I like triviaking's idea. The list on the challenge page shows this stat; why can't it be a permanent note? The team quizzes all say the team name when you click the quiz link, so I would imagine its not too difficult to do that for these. :-)

Yes, I know there's a grammatical error. I'm too lazy to go fix it.

I do try to put the credit in the closing paragraph, but can't be certain that I've never forgotten, so I support this idea, too. I know I played the quiz created from my one and only accepted (so far) title, and wasn't mentioned. I felt a bit miffed, to be honest, especially as the idea spawned a follow up!

Building on triviaking's original suggestion, it might not be a bad idea on the quiz's main page to include a blurb along the lines of: "This is an Author Challenge quiz based on a title suggested by Kyleisalive (what's this?)" where the parenthetical remark is a link to the Player Author Challenge page. It gives a nod to the player who submitted the title and generates awareness of what is, IMHO, a pretty nifty little area of the site. However, I don't think it would be necessary to display both names in the category quiz lists as well. That might be a bit much.

Same here. My one and only suggestion that has been made into a quiz didn't mention where the challenge title came from. It is sometimes hard to dig up that information after the quiz is written, so I understand why it does happen sometimes, but it is disappointing not to see some mention.

Automating it in some way would eliminate the problem.

This would be a great solution, and it seems to kill several birds with one stone. Generating more interest for the Author's Challenge page and the other quiz-writing parts of FT will open them up to new blood.

Yeah, I really like that idea, LadyC, and I totally agree with shuehorn. The page is sort of hard to reach, and this would be a good idea. Now let's see if Terry can make this happen smile

Haha, I just knew our dear Kyle wouldn't mind being used as an example. smile Although, given the number of his titles that get snapped up, a lot of them would have his name anyway!

I think there is probably enough "incentive" for the Author's Challenge area already - ever since Terry put in a badgelet (for writing one) AND a major badge (for writing ten).

As far as recognising the "suggestor", just make it a rule when writing for an Author's Challenge title that you have to name the person in your "outro", otherwise it doesn't qualify.

If you want to get more people (other than Kyle lol) to put in more suggestions, then perhaps there could be a badgelet for that too (say 10 or 15 etc titles taken by others will get you one). It's amazing what people will do for a badgelet - even giving up clever titles they've been saving for future quizzes of their own : )

I'm not a fan of this suggestion, as I feel that, while most people have good intentions with it, many players would then be motivated to put out less well-thought-out names and such just to win the badgelet. I've only suggested a few titles myself (and they weren't necessarily amazingly funny and/or inventive, haha), and feel the reward is in somebody using it for their quiz.

point taken.

However, there are more than a few that might not be "well thought out" there already (giggles), badgelet or no badgelet.

And besides, I wasn't implying that mere suggestions of titles would win the badgelet, but rather people would have to actually choose your titles x number of times and get those quizzes online in order for you to win it. I think that would rule out the "frivolous".

I've never suggested one anyway because I'm simply not creative enough to think of one that someone could actually write a whole 10 question quiz on : )

(edited because I can't type today - not that that is unusual)

And ordinary players have a limit on how many titles they can suggest, I think it's three at a time, but it could be four. Kyle can suggest loads as he's an editor, hence there always being lots in the list by him.

I think that's just Kyle. I have a limit of three suggestions at a time as well.

You shouldn't LadyC, I was able to suggest more than the limit (I thought it was five though?) when I became an editor. Though maybe something has changed, it's been a long while since I had more than a couple of suggestions to post

I was under the assumption that all editors could submit more than the limit. The limit is 3, but it, for whatever reason, allows you to submit 4.

Of course, for instance, I have 4 titles right now; if all four were to be chosen, I could make another 4. If they were given up, I'd have 8 at one time. So even us non-editors can accidentally get more than the max. wink

I don't think it would be possible to not register a quiz unless something is written in the outro, Jakeroo. That would involve a lot of manual work, methinks.

I still stand by the original suggestion of having the player's name somewhere in the quiz; so if we forget to add in the intro, outro, or whatever, it's still there. smile

Can editors tell when opening a quiz to be edited that it's an author's challenge title? If so, it's not that hard to check the intro or outro for the suggestor's name since they read the WHOLE quiz anyway.

Besides, if you go to the Author's Challenge quizzes online link, it already tells you right before the "blurb" who suggested it - so Salami, if you really need to know for self-gratification, then just go there and do a page search for your name : )

The role of Deputy Prime Minister is not an official one in the UK, and not all Prime Ministers choose to have a deputy. Some politicians have held the title, or been designated as a deputy, and this quiz is about them
